Obviously there was a reason for it.

I'm intrigued now, what use do you have for an away figure of a team you don't support from March 2016?

Again, off the top of my head:

Sunderland
QPR
Man City
Norwich
Wolves
Reading
Man Utd

Forest was 20k+ as well but wasn't 20k home fans IIRC so I was right with 8, and Fulham would even be 9, no?

Obviously there was a reason for it.

Easy bite.

Assume you mean 60 years since it changed from regional division rather than actually 60 years in it, as otherwise you'd be wrong.
Thought we were talking about league games cos if you didn't manage 20k for City and United you may as well pack in and give the ground to the Rugby Club on a full time basis.

Leeds fan on their forum was saying that their only sub 1k in the last 10 years was Sutton.

Well no, why would I exclude two games where we got 20k+

You sound like that Crewe fan saying stuff like that though.

He has a point....jokingn

So it's 7 league games, cos you're in the top six, fair do's....

It's still decent. Just had a look and the top tier is open for Fulham so probably close to, if not 20,000 already.

Be interesting to see what the Cardiff gate is next week, would expect them to pack their stadium out given the size of the game and their table position.

Off the top of my head I can remember 3 sub 1k followings from us in the last 10 years. 2 up the north east, and the other one at Chelsea.

Was that when you lost 8-0?

I remember when Stoke had a shit number down there the Chelsea PA bloke mocked it at the end of the game.

6 out of your 16 home games have attracted 20k home fans, though the last five all have JJH.

Only reason I raise this is cos MK fans bang on about getting x amount home gates but invariably they are boosted by massive away numbers.

Ours aren't boosted by huge away numbers though, we're about midway in the list for away fans at our stadium, 1,400 average iirc.

I'm not cockwaving I just think it's impressive for us and that our home crowds have been decent enough since the redevelopment.

Yes pal, around xmas time. 900+
Thought so. Did you go to that one? Must've been one of the darkest days as a Villa fan.

You average about 40 less away fans at your place than us, it's nearly 1,600, given the season you're having and the size of the city I'd be shocked at not getting the gates you are not to be honest. If it goes tits up and the you slide back to mid table will they hold up? Genuine question.

Losing 8-0 in the top flight, horrible experience....and i would know.

Not even sure what the fascination and obsession is with a 20k home gate. 4k of those are only coming because the ground is shiny and new, they had no interest beforehand.

In 2008, (last time we had any success in this league and before rebuild) we moved to the top of the Championship on 1st March with a 2-1 win against Hull. Attendance that day? 15859 including 914 from Hull.

It would hold up, last season we averaged nearly 20k and we went on the worst losing run in our history. We've got around 15k STHs now, things are on the up at long last.

It's almost as if you get your facilities up to date and the football's progressing with it more people will come and watch us. How strange a concept.

As for 8-0 losses, I'd rather them than what we seem to do regularly which is chuck decent leads away. Fulham at home we were 4-0 down after 20 odd mins and I wasn't half as arsed as the Cardiff and Reading games at home last season.

Hope that kills you, at least when you're 3/4-0 down you can go back to the pub rather than have a heat of the moment heartbreak.

We’re a small/average club in this division so it is impressive we’re having 20k+ crowds most weeks. We have come a long way in that respect!

I also think City are in a transitional period. if we want to sustain the numbers I think we need to take full advantage of this season. Who knows what we will get if we’re down the bottom next year?

I must admit I do miss the hardcore City fanbase against the likes of Oldham on a wet Tuesday night. Giving it their all for the team, instead of eating their prawn sandwiches.

Nope, watched it on the box and saved myself 50 quid. The last 3 times I've been to Chelsea it was 4.0, 7.1, and a 4.4 on Boxing Day, with me getting banged up. It's not a great fixture for me personally, and I suppose for villa fans in general. Chelsea and Stoke are my two unluckiest away days.

Banged up on boxing day

We've not played Chelsea in my lifetime and I don't pay much attention to the PL anymore, I know they used to have a proper mob back in the day but I can't imagine many old boys still travel with them do they? They're a completely different club now, same as Man City.

Never got banged up down there. Got back to town, and ended up scrapping with one of the lads who travelled down with us.

And the atmosphere has been shit since then. God I miss the old East end.

They are doing well going to a place they haven't been for years; on a Sat. Far from massively impressive in my mind.
