Goodbye 15 second highlights and hello to Football League Tonight:

Their new show Football League Tonight will be shown live in a primetime 9pm slot on Channel 5 every Saturday of the season from August 8.

Every Goal. Every Week

Each show will feature the top match footage from all three divisions of the Sky Bet Football League and will include every single goal from matches across the board.

In addition, Channel 5 will also broadcast three one-hour shows covering the end of season Sky Bet Play-Offs across all three divisions, plus eight one-hour highlights shows covering the action from each round of the Capital One Cup.

Your Show

As well as every goal across the divisions, the show will be jam-packed with high profile names. Players and managers will be encouraged to join us in the studio each week, or take part in the conversation via Skype and Facetime. A vibrant studio audience of genuine fans will also give their opinions. No lengthy punditry, no football clichés, this is football on 5 at its most exciting.

Executive Producer for Channel 5, Mark Sharman, said: “Channel 5 are committed to bringing a quality, innovative football highlights show to Saturday night primetime TV. The 9pm slot finally gives the Sky Bet Football League the coverage and respect the fans deserve on terrestrial television.”

Sunset+Vine, the multi award-winning independent TV sports production and media company, is producing Football League Tonight Show on Channel 5.

In principle sounds a big improvement (minus adverts) but will wait to be convinced, I do like the idea of managers and players over skype, could mean multiple different people appearing each week rather than just the pundit in the studio.

How will they fit in all the goals, advert and studio chat into an hour..

Do we know who the presenters are?

I did read Ian Wright and Stan Collymore were asked but the latter refused to work with "Wrghty"

Interested to see how this pans out. As mentioned by Super_Horns, don't know how on Earth they are going to fit it all into an hour, don't think they will end up chatting to any fans at all really.

I reckon it will be good, no more having to stay up past midnight to see puny 15 second highlights.

Doesn't Sky Sports' FL72 Review do it in an hour no problem?

Don't think they do much in the extended highlights department, although I might be wrong

Yeah they don't to be fair, just the goals I think. Personally I prefer it like that, not too bothered about seeing extended highlights. At least they don't have the cringeworthy Clem feature or make us put up with Leroy/Claridges drivel in-between highlights.

Yes, I think it's called something like 'Today's Goals Now' but if I remember correctly they do seem to drag it out for about two hours, going back and forth to let's say the golf or cricket.

That's on Sky Sports News, I'm on about the FL72 Review show that is on the Monday morning after the fixtures on Sky Sports 1. There's also an FL72 Preview before the fixtures

Yeah but that is after 2 days of editing, not 4 hours after the final whistle!

I was just making the point that it is possible to fit all the goals in an hour, but yeah it's a good point they will be hard pushed with only a few hours to do it

It doesn't say it will be one hour, does it?

It says that in addition to the regular show, there will be one hour shows for the League Cup and Playoffs, but doesn't state the main show will be an hour in length.

It can't clash with MotD though, so about an hour and a half at most.

Why would it matter if it overlaps with MOTD?

If you're a PL fan, presumably you'd be watching MOTD, and if you're a FL fan, you'd be watching this?

Makes no sense to me. Also - it would likely only be L2 teams that suffer the heartbreak of missing MOTD if it went on for longer than an hour. I'm pouring my heart out for all this poor Gasheads - they were better off in Non-League to be honest.

Well it's more beneficial for Channel 5 if it doesn't overlap than if it does. A lot of football fans watch MotD as a ritual each weekend, Premier League fan or not.

Plus Pompey fans can't miss out on us storming the Premier League next year....... Actually we'll be on MotD2 a lot next year.

MOTD doesn't start until 10:30 usually anyway. Would be just like the BBC to move it to 10 out of spite. Although anyone with sense would record it and watch it after, that way you can forward through the inane ramblings of the "pundits"
