I can't see there being any more than 1000 at HP tonight, I would be disappointed if there were. People raise the point of wanting to take action without the club losing out financially, however the way I see it is our chairman has supported this abomination and therefore he deserves to face the consequences financially of a boycott.

Hopefully we take less than 100 to Accrington, less than 50 would be brilliant but I've heard a few say they are going so not likely.

Here here. We haven't confirmed what way we voted but I think it's pretty clear. Until they say they voted against I won't spend my ticket money on something in the club shop or bar.

There is always a portion of fans who believe they must go to every match.....a full boycott will never happen and especially that group of 40 odd 'never miss a game' lot will never be convinced.

I think if we can get a good solid 50% reduction on the normal jpt gates it is job done.

You already have a portion never go, at Carlisle for example gates would drop from 4500 to 3000 anyway, so if 50% of the 3000 die hards don't go and is only 1500 it'll be a loss making game which then hits home the point.

Add in the big discounted prices trick many are trying and if gates drop 50% it will be a big losses game so even better.

The boycott wont show pathetic numbers but I am hoping it just shows drops enough to hurt teams into abit of a panic about fan reaction

Yep, we've had this discussion on our club messageboard. There are some people who will want to go to any match no matter the circumstances and some of them have asked those of us who will boycott the matches whether we would go to the final. I would not go to the final even if we were facing a normal League 1/2 side (last trophy match I went to was Leyton Orient vs Barnet in 12/13).
Personally I find it a shame that this competition has now been so degraded as we've had a few good moments in this competition such as our runs to the Area final in 11/12 and the Area semi-final as a Conference club in 01/02.

That is the bit I find a shame, that this comp couldn't just end with abit of dignity and nice memories.

It has never made money it was for me just there to give you a chance of a cup final.

Sadly these days its all money, sponsorship and appealing to armchair fans........that is what football now is

Well I do really hope it can go back to the way it was. As you both say, it wasn't supposed to make money it was supposed to give teams a chance to go to the final. I figure that whoever reaches the final may be in profit from the competition through ticket sales, TV rights and prize money (though I don't know what that is and whether there is some for runners up too).

From our messageboard, it seems a few are going. The away travel club are putting on a coach to Oldham, possibly because they set up to put on travel to every away match and it was confirmed that on the coach to Barnet names were taken for people wanting to get the coach to Oldham. The usual group I imagine who, regardless of any views they may or may not have towards this competition, see attending every fixture as being of utmost importance.

The other thing, when it comes to home games in this competition, is that I imagine a lot of our fans, particularly the ones who go occasionally, may not really be aware of the controversy surrounding the competition. Not everyone who attends is reading the back pages of the local rags every week, or joining in online debates. Most I imagine are just thinking 'ooh Carlisle are at home this evening, I might go'.

Yeovil saying they've sold about 800 tickets. They got 1,200 for their first round tie last year, OK that was Barnet and this is Portsmouth but it's a bit concerning that it's going to be pretty much the same. Not convinced crowds are going to be as low as they should be overall.

We'll have about 30 at Shrewsbury tonight, 30 too many, know a few going for a couple of differing reasons, either live locally or on a streak of games, but I don't have sympathy with any of them, clearly not understanding, or caring about, the larger consequences.

Are any of them protesting at the game?

The FL vs FL fixtures could skew things a bit, I reckon more will go to our game against Yeovil than tonight for example.

Pompey are absolute nutters though, the whole 'buy a ticket then walk out' is the worst approach for a minor Trophy game.

Yes but that's the norm. We need to see some sub 1000 gates tonight. Hopefully all In the games involving the B/U23 teams. After talking to most of the people I know, I haven't come across anyone yet who's said they'll be going to our game tonight.

In fairness they are twistin alot to get numbers, I've never seen deals of fiver for adults and rest pretty much go free......why does it take a spiteful attack at the fans boycott to get great ticket prices. They also falsly advertise it as playing a first team than u23.

If they can twist things to make gates better we can twist things when 3rd set of games happen

In the past five seasons, our JPT games have had an average attendance of 1,400, albeit only two of them at home which have been nearer 1,600 average.

I agree that in principle it's a fucking terrible approach, but in practice it should mean that the boycott gets some national media coverage. Don't mind it as a one-off in that regard.

Think Orient have got a half-decent shot at a sub-1,000 crowd. We've got more 'go to every game' nutters than most clubs of a similar size, but we have a large right-on lefty contingent that won't touch this shit with a barge pole. Plus Stevenage's away attendance should be even more dire than usual. I'll keep everything crossed.

Wouldn't be to prove a point, you did exactly the same against us last season.

Fair enough your club is happy to take the fine though. Not like you were struggling for money a short while ago or anything.
fans have done another online whip round to cover any fines so yeah fair enough really

The rules have been clarified and as predicted, any suspensions or bookings picked up in this competition are applicable only in this competition only. So a player could spit at a referee and punch him, get an 11 game ban and play on Saturday.
Really hope that exact scenario happens to see them scramble around to change the rules again

I don't think a player would/should be trying it to find out!

Indeed. There's a guy on our forum who's missed only 5 away matches since 1974 and none at home since 1970! He's a credit to the club absolutely, but a countrywide bloody nose is more important than 1 match.

Its the players who are going to be harmed out of all this - the want to play in front of crowds. They don't deserve or want to play in an empty stadium.

Surely they also want to play in a competitive fixture and not against a Championship side's reserves.

Pompey make 11 changes too.
Tisdale puts himself on the bench to even out the average age as he names a 15 year alongside him!
