Part of Costa's role as a lone striker is to try and get the opposition sent off. He dived in the first 5 or 10 minutes to try and get Arsenal's midfield destroyer Coquelin on an early yellow. He spends the whole game riling up the centre backs. It's not respectable, but it is part of the game. They should all be prepared for what he's going to do. You only have yourself to blame if you rise to it.

Edit: I'd also say that Gabriel was probably trying to get Costa sent off with that little kick as well.
