No idea about what the players are doing, although I presume just like every other set of players that they expected the Chesterfield defender to kindly move out of the way and not just stand still.. The entire incident is avoidable..there's quite clearly no menace in our players celebrating together.

It really doesn't. The lads ran off to celebrate and the number 4 unfortunately got caught up in them. If you are trying to say they deliberately tried to tackle number 4 then you need to give your head a wobble. They bumped into him, he understandably retaliated and started pushing and shoving and then everyone else on both sides came over and made much more of it more than it needed to be.

please do...although your own players need punishing you cant collectively scrum a player to your own fans in this manner

the video evidence shows an attempted shove...hardly a punch.

for what its worth i thought walsall were good...almost as good as we were last year and nobody this season has looked anywhere near that.

Poor from all involved for me. Walsall players had no need to run into him as a mob like he wasn't there, what was the point in that?, Chesterfields lad stupid to retaliate like he did and once raises the arm is rightly sent off although in the heat of the moment can understand the reaction.

The footage shown in ANY Video on this thread...IS NOT what is shown on Sky Sports - WHICH shows the moment the lad earns his red card. I'm not sure what it is anyone is finding so hard about understanding that? I've recorded it on my phone. But it won't let me upload in that file format.

Yeah, thats the highlights package. I've sat and watched them both numerous times, the version you posted in this thread is the beginning of the scrum. The end is shown on SSN currently, when the goals loop round. Stick it on and catch it.

Our players shouldn't have scrummed him the way they did, but if you watch all them, they focus on each other and carry on trotting in the direction they were already heading, not expecting Hird to be there. The notion that it was intentional or personal to wind the Chesterfield defender up is just..wrong. The whole issue lies with Donohue, who was correct in being sent off. If he hadn't have come barging over, chasing Demetriou around then we wouldn't be talking about anything more than handbags and a couple of yellows on either side.

Having just seen it again, that's ridiculous from Donohue, he wasn't even in the picture, so to go out of his way to throw a punch and possibly cost us the game is not cool.

Hird rightly has a reason be pissed off though, i'm not saying it was entirely deliberate but that's really poor from the Walsall players there.

The original highlights from SkySports paint the picture that the Walsall players weirdly decide to team up and drive into Hird, but the Channel 5 highlights do make it a bit more ambiguous... still odd though. Donohue's lost his head there and we can't blame anyone else for that.

That's a really poor show from Walsall. It certainly looks like 14 and a couple of others are deliberately taking Hird with them I assume to wind him up, which is only going to cause a a scene no matter what level of football it is. Total dick move by Walsall players, but for Donohue to get involved like that is stupid. He's a young lad though hopefully he learns from it. Need to put this game behind us ASAP as a game like this when you're on a good run can really set a stumble going

Move 2 yards out of the way of oncoming celebrating players like anyone would do and does do in 99.9% of any goal celebrations?

He absolutely does nothing but stand there, blatantly in the way. It's quite noticeable how all of our players bar Demetriou brush passed him and celebrate together, its only because Hird physically grabs Demetriou that the entire melee ensued. Sorry, if you disagree, but the be all and end all is that Donohue completely losing the plot, over an incident that had absolutely nothing to do with him is what cost Chesterfield. Had he not got sent off for being an idiot and Chesterfield had got an equaliser, with the game finishing 2-2 - then the entire incident wouldn't have been mentioned ever again.

The fact it did cost you the game and it ended 4-1, is why fans are taking notice of it.

With regards to action after the game from any sort of panel. What help is that going to have? It's not going to win any points back or take Donohue's red card back? Anyone who accused our players of anything, could take a look at the fair play league (which we have won twice recently and are one the best behaved list again this year)...then they could go through thousands of hours of celebrations where players are in the way of the celebrating team...who simply move out of the way. Then they could zoom in and look at our players faces, who, were blatantly not aiming at scrumming the lad, blatantly not intending to cause any harm. No way anyone is going to get fined, no way any cards are added or rescinded.

Whilst I will agree, that some of our players could have moved around Hird, or not concentrated so much on trotting in a huddle together - this entire incident comes down to the stupidity of one Chesterfield player and IF he hadn't of been stupid and got sent off, you may have come back into the game - and if that did happen, nothing would ever be mentioned again and no eyes battered.

Stinks of excuses and sour grapes at a home defeat. If the rolls were reversed or we had drawn the game, I'd be in exactly the same stance on the entire incident. I'm sure you will all have differing opinions, of which everyone is correctly allowed, but we can agree to disagree.

Having just seen the incident, I can't really understand why you believe Hird should have to move out of the way of the Walsall players at all. The Walsall lot pretty much get him caught up in a scrum and he can't really go anywhere.

End of the day, Hird wasn't in the wrong, Walsall players could've avoided him quite easily but chose not to, and the one who got sent off was a bit of a pillock. Done.

Whilst I agree with much of the post from Saddlerrad I'm going to have to take sides with my fellow Maidstone chap regarding the start of the incident.

Sam Hird was swarmed on in a way I've never seen before and could do absolutely bugger all about being dragged completely away from where he wanted to go and potentially into danger with celebrating supporters.

Alternatively, if Walsall fans think Hird was actively trying to get in the way of your celebration then I find that bizarre. It was a whole incident that could've been easily avoided, which was ended by an over the top reaction.

I said early on in the thread that I completely understood Hirds reaction as I would be a little wound up too.

Just one big accident blown over the top by Donohue's actions.
