"...based on calculations of the reported transfer fees for the roughly first choice starting XIs of both clubs in the 1994-95 season (taking into account injuries and long-term suspension), Rovers spent far less than the incumbent champions, Manchester United. Peter Schmeichel, Denis Irwin, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Andrei Kanchelskis, Paul Ince, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Brian McClair, Mark Hughes and Andy Cole cost £19.33m.

Whereas Flowers, Henning Berg, Hendry, Ian Pearce, Le Saux, Stuart Ripley, Mark Atkins, Sherwood, Jason Wilcox, Shearer and Sutton set Rovers back a comparatively low £14.7m."

Shearer and Sutton being £8.3m of that £14.7m.

As i said, and you weren't born when it all happened so you're irrelvant, United did it over many years, Ince in 89, Hughes actually made them money, McClair, Pallister 89ish, Giggs free, Bruce 87, it wasn't the same at Blackburn.

How could we have bought the league if United spent more? Even 1994/95 in isolation we spent less...

Stroll on, you built a squad that won a title inside 2/3 years from the depths of the 2nd tier, you spent much more than £14.33m

Shearer 3.3m
Sutton 5m
Ripley 1.3m
Warhurst 2.7m
Batty 2.5m
Flowers 2.4m
Wright 500k
Hendry 700k
Newell 1,1m
Le Saux 700k
Sherwood 700k

Sherwood was 400k and only counting the players who got a PL medal (not Batty or Wright) brings the figure to £17.6m, less than United's £19.33m.

17.6m in 3 years or 19.33m over 8 years...

Anyway I was happy Blackburn beat the glory hunters to the title in 1995.
