Fyfield was a long running joke amongst our fans in his time here. I've not seen a player here who quite literally everybody thought was shite for a long time.

Wasn't he only with you for the last 4 months of the season from when he was released by York in January 2014? If so it couldn't have been that long running a joke.

Did Fyfield play left back or centre back for Grimsby? Which bits of his game were the shittest?

Chuffed that Jennings has signed again. A decent footballer with a great work ethic. I think we'll get a few more goals from him next season too. And not just against Macclesfield.

I really like Wrexham as a club and I hope that they do well this season, but is it just me who think that for a club that has pulled in over 2,000 ST sales, that their signings so far have been very average? In my opinion, Moke, Newton, Fyfield, Vidal and Belford are all very average Conference players.
Saying that, I think with some of the players they already have, they should still be challenging the top five.

Newton is hardly 'very average'.

Retaining Moult, Manny Smith and Jennings and signing Fowler and Vose probably took a fair whack out of the budget I guess.

Newton seems a good signing too from what I've seen of him.

Imagine if 20 assists a season from a full back was deemed average!

Only my opinion, but from whenever I've seen Newton, he's been good at going forward but pretty poor at defending. The last time I saw him he was pretty much the only person this season being shredded to pieces by Moke.

Yeah, fair enough, I probably have it wrong on Newton, although as I said he's never looked particularly solid defensively, but I think my original point still might have a bit of justification.

I see it how the Gateshead fan put it earlier - it's Mills' usual mixed bag of signings.

It's a better side than Woking's last season (no offence) and ours the season before - so no reason they shouldn't challenge for the play offs!

I share some of these concerns but I think we will do ok. Fyfield and Moke are average Conference players but Newton can't be called average, clearly one of the best left backs in the league in terms of productivity if nothing else. Fyfield might be crap but there's no guarantee he will even be a starter, Hudson and Smith had the basis of a really good partnership last season anyway and it's up to Fyfield to earn his place. Moke similar, is unlikely to be a first choice pick considering who we are still to bring in. I doubt either will be on mega bucks.

Vidal is an unknown really and Belford is an average Conference keeper. If Vidal is crap, then we have Carrington who can play at right back. On the other hand, Manny Smith and Fowler are both class and ability-wise way above Conference level, ones who will be on 'megabucks'. Moult is a top 5 striker and apparently Dominic Vose is a good player. It's a mix, in some positions we have real quality but in others it looks a bit 'meh'. That's why I think overall it's a top 10 side on paper but it could become better. I'm still expecting another quality midfielder and at least one forward to come in.

Yep, Fyfield and Moke won't be costing us too much and look like versatile cover signings rather than obvious first choice starters. I'm happy with Newton. Tamworth last season is the only time in 26 year old Javan Vidal's career that he has played a proper chunk of league games and apparently was rather good in the conference north. Good enough for us? Who knows. Fingers crossed Cameron Belford does okay for us in goal. That's the biggest question mark.

Mills has said he still expects to sign more players according to a local journalist. I hope one is a tackling midfielder: @LeaderRich: #WxmAFC boss Mills targeting more new signings, particularly in attack, & has not ruled out 'raiding' former club Gateshead. #Leader

Yeah, I would say they are all fair comments. Like I say, I wish Wrexham well, because like Grimsby and Lincoln, they all represent good away days, got decent fans and I feel like, although they are all much bigger clubs than Macc, I can relate to them as a Macc fan as they have gone through a lot of shite in recent years as well

Our signings could perhaps be labelled as a mixed bag but on the whole I'm happy with the business. It's been decisive and ruthless and represents a completely new start. We can also expect at least another two first teamers to sign imo.

Then there is the fact that we have resigned our best / most promising players from last season - Moult, Jennings , Smith.

Chipmunx - Neil Ashton is a very good signing for you guys. File him under the same draw as Harris. Both very good players that will benefit from a new challenge.

Barrow AFC announce the signing of former Wrexham fullback Neil Aston on a two year deal. Quickly followed by Andy Haworth whom we had on loan from Cheltenham Town last season on a similar deal:brill:

Can't say I've seen much of Ashton, but number of Wrexham fans on Twitter saying they're gutted is encouraging.
Haworth was brilliant when he established himself last season, and definitely more than just a luxury flair player - hopefully this is the club where he finally settles down and performs to the best of his ability.

Ashton's main strength is going forward, linking up with attacks and delivering a decent cross into the box. He's solid defensively for this level also, but has become more vulnerable over the years. Was fairly shit two seasons ago, but generally okay last season. He loves table tennis.

Ashton is a good signing for Barrow I was a bit surprised when we released him. I presume if we didn't have Newton lined up we'd have kept him.

And he scored 8 goals last season too.
Poor defensively but at this level as an attacking threat from corners and set pieces superb.

Haworth the ex-Bury winger?

Yeah, though he's been at about 8 clubs since then. As skillful as you'll get down in this league, likes a shot. Probably a confidence player, judging by the 15 or so games he's played for Barrow

Never given a chance at Cheltenham, but then it was difficult to see where he fitted in.

One of Yates' panic signings last summer.

He had a really good season in L2 with Bury (their promotion season a few years back?), so I'm surprised he's dropped down here albeit a few years later.

I remember when Howarth first joined Bury on loan I think it was. And he was a very good player at L2 level, that was around 2010 I think so maybe it's gone wrong for him somewhere over the last couple of years.

Martin Riley from Mansfield confirmed. No idea if he is good or not, but interesting Brabin said a factor in signing him was that he already has an understanding with Ritchie Sutton from their Mansfield days. Possibly another one to sign today too, according to rumour.
