Haha, football is all a game of opinions. Bar Turnbull and Pilkington, this is the signing I've been most pleased with all summer. He's the kind of unexciting target man that our fans have never seemed to appreciate during our time in the league. We haven't had a target man since we got relegated a few years ago and subsequently have always struggled away at big physical teams like Nuneaton, Dartford, Southport etc. I think this extra dimension could see us win a lot more of those games now. Also, having a player like this gives the opportunity finally I would say for Holroyd (or even Dennis) to grab a lot of goals playing off him.

EDIT - he also scored 2 goals in 3 starts for a team that couldn't score for toffee, including a MOTM winning solo performance at Halifax, so it's a bit harsh to say he didn't pull up any trees!
Sure is about opinions, he just didn't excite me much last season. He starts with a clean slate though and a full pre-season with the squad will no doubt help.

Matty Brown is a good signing overall for Halifax IMO. Only issue is that he is pretty injury prone but when he is playing he's always reliable and does his job well.

Joe Clarke to Kidderminster was one of the more obvious that was going to happen and I think he's a cracking signing for them. Passing really isn't his forte so he wasn't going to be part of Mills' plans in my view and I think he had gone a bit stale here, same as a load of the other old guard.

I think he has to play in a 3 man midfield and really not as the defensive man in it. Started off for us playing for expenses and donations given to him from fans and then got a contract and became a regular player through his hard work. He is a good character in the dressing room, good professional and he is never injured. He's a strange one though, at times he can produce moments of unbelievable skill and then the next minute he looks like he has his boots on the wrong feet.

Echo that, he wouldn't be first choice here next season so that's a good move for him, thought he'd end up at somewhere like Alty or back at Southport myself.

Andy Bishop has signed for Halifax. Not the best signing.

This is a genuine question, because I always read him being slagged off really badly by Wrexham fans. Why is he so bad??

he isnt. He isnt great. No pace and could work harder but can score goals 15+ for us last season mainly in cups though. He was made the scapegoat due to being a high earner here and previous reputation of a goal machine (about 10 years ago)

It's an interesting one. Don't slate us because this is absolutely true, but he was a fan favourite at Bury just a few years ago. Did very well for us and even ran a few defences ragged in League One. He's been on a downward trajectory since for some reason. Also worth knowing that when at Bury a capitalist simply paid his wages because he demanded a lot. Shirley the same can't be said of us? Anyway, because of his history my father's delighted with this signing and says he's now excited about the new season for the first time. That's in opposition to what most other fans seem to think, but I have seen what he's capable of and I hope he gets some mojo back!

Jokes aside, his legs are honestly completely knackered so everything has to be on his head inside the 6 yard box for him to score. He can hardly run at all nowadays even if he wanted to, which he doesn't. It could work with Larry Longball in charge of him though, he'll score 10 goals. He will infuriate you by backing into defenders, claiming his shirt is being pulled and falling over trying to win free kicks, when the defender is actually doing nothing wrong. He's also dead easy to wind up when he knows a centre half has his number, good for landing an elbow on someone and risking a red card. He is pretty much the posterboy for Morrell's dealings in the transfer market.

Vaughan would have been fine down here as your RB this season.

What did Vaughan for me last season was his sending off against Wycombe. He was like a headless chicken chasing the ball around, before finding himself on the wrong side of the pitch and diving in two-footed. The most deserved red I've ever seen live and just seemed to sum up his petulance on the pitch.

I'm intrigued by the signing of Barthram. Has apparently turned down League Two interest to join us and, like Harry Pell, seems to have been sold the club brilliantly.

I'm hoping the next signing is a new keeper, I don't want a position as important as that rumbling on throughout the summer.

Bishop was a fans favourite at Bury because of what he did in his early years and pre-injury.

He was a very good striker prior to that (usually scoring against us every time we played Bury) but there was a hugely noticeable difference when he returned.

As I've just said in the NLN thread, he doesn't strike me as a Law player.

We have signed Ex Lincoln player Todd Jordan. I gather he is shite Lincoln fans?

Yes he is pretty shite I'm afraid, very slow and cumbersome. Don't really see how some Lincoln fans thought he was ok. In his defence though he is a MF mainly but also played central defence sometimes so being out of position he tended to struggle for me as he has the turning circle of a barge. He didn't play that many games for us (thankfully) and I think I can recall him having about one or two decent games. The rest of the time I thought he was a bit of a liability, but he did give his all. Not sure if one step down will help him find his level, but I wish him well.

Andy Monkhouse confirmed on a year deal

Happy with that, nice experience to add to the squad, offered a contract by Rovers too so not like they didn't want to keep him and for once location works in our favour, and interesting to note he would have played for a few seasons with Hurst at Rotherham so Hurst will know him well.

Squad coming along nicely and good to have him and Arnold that can both play up front if needed now, so probably just another striker will be enough, especially as Hurst wants to keep us at or below 20 players by the sounds of things so the more versatile the players the better.

Was excellent for us , classy player who I would like to have kept . Best wishes to both him and grimsby for next season .

Marwood was loads better than Rodman in 2013/14. Both of them had disappointing seasons last season, Rodman didn't surprise me but I thought Marwood would do better at FGR. I thought they might have been up for giving him another season after letting Norwood go.

Shrewd signing, can play in 2 positions that we needed strengthening which probably kills two birds with one stone. I'd like to think we'd be getting a few more in though. A winger, a first choice striker, possibly another central midfielder and I've a feeling we'll want a first choice RB and potentially a back up LB.

Marwood was a disappointment, but tbh I wasn't surprised it didn't work out as I wasn't sure if he was suited to our style of play, having flourished in a good footballing side, which we certainly aren't.

The fact we didn't give him a full season after Pennock claimed he'd been chasing him for quite a while when he signed is a bit of a surprise, but I expect we've got someone else lined up. Ajala's been linked for a while, and Sainte-Luce is another possibility apparently given he wants to move closer to his family.

Only seen Sainte-Luce play the once, but he was excellent in that game, his first goal he waltzed through our defence then nearly took the net out with the finish.

Yeah he done well in the last few games but thats all he done in his 6 months or so with us. There is a good player in there though, just needs consistency
