Haha!

What's this you don't know what I do for a living lark? I don't keep up much with this forum now, unfortunately.

Back to topic. Are Lincoln getting a new funding stream? I hope they don't end up getting decent, I'm uncomfortable with them doing well this year as it is.

It is 99.9% sure right now. Official announcement some time before Christmas.

Just ChrisFGR being a #TopLad.

I keep my distance mate. Been a long time since I won non-league member of the year or whatever it was that I won!

Have missed some of the banter though.

So what does ChrisFGR actually do?

You're uncomfortable? Think how we feel! Just very bizarre our impact this season after approaching a decade of pretty much constant failure.

It's more a bloating of future years budgets rather than spunked all at once I understand, hopefully this will sustain us at the top end for the foreseeable future, and towards regaining League Two status.

Gone down hill since then. I mean, DSL 'won' it last year.

Worry not Joe! You'll be mingling with the top boys again next season ;)

Hope so bud. I really do. I miss it.

Cannot stand another season in this league. If we stay down I will be going abroad every few weeks.

As for Chris, I don't like it when he acts 'hard', although I don't think he's being serious 99% of the time. But I do find myself agreeing with what he says lotsof times, as he views things from a different perspective, and that's a good thing in my book. However it must be hard being an FGR fan, and in a way I admire the Rovers fans on this forum. What I find particularly irritating is when fans of other clubs, who get something like 1000-1500 home fans, say FGR will definitely not be able to sustain league footy. Well excuse me, but if they can't, then neither will the club you support.

Why does the status of your club impact on the ability to judge another? Unless the person saying it is claiming that their club could and FGR couldn't. It doesn't matter who someone is, their arguments should be based on their strength alone. Who they are only comes in to it if they bring it in somehow.

For instance an FGR fan calling another club out for spending their way to a promotion doesn't make them wrong. A Boreham Wood fan could call another club poorly supported and be correct. Just because these things are also true of their own side doesn't make them wrong.

Agree with your post, but the thing is these fans won't mention their club when commenting on FGR and whether they can sustain league footy or not. Yet, they will do so on another different thread, and they will cite reasons as to why they would be able to should they go up. I find this a bit silly, as a club that currently only gets some 1200 home fans will also find it extremely hard to sustain life in the FL. Sure, their crowds will double for the first couple of years, but what about when they're struggling at the bottom of L2?

If you want to call them out on it, you note the argument they make elsewhere on the forum and point out the inconsistency. They then have the option of dropping one or both arguments or highlighting their own hypocrisy. It's all too common to see, for the sake of argument, a Boreham Wood fan attacked for saying FGR can't sustain league football, when at no point has that fan said that Boreham Wood could. It's just attacking the assumed position that the fan would back their own side to be able to do it. In your case it's not wrong, but I think you need to cross-link the post that shows the hypocrisy.

The only part of ChrisFGR I have a problem with is when he starts doing the whole "If you only knew what I do for a living" etc thing. It doesn't matter Chris... keep the talk about the football.

My point above was more general than you of course, on football forums it is very common for people to be attacked for an argument because their club is in a worse position or has done worse things. It's a little bugbear of mine and I hate to see it. It doesn't matter if you have the right or wrong side of the argument (or even if there is one), if you just attack a fan based on who they support then you are never going to have anything close to a productive discussion. If you talk about the facts in a sensible way you might still disagree but have an easier time seeing the other person's opinion. If you have no interest in even discussing with people with opposing opinions except for trying to convince them of your own, well then you don't belong on a diverse forum like this.

[n.b. nothing I am saying here is directly against you Vanni, you're generally a very good poster IMO]

So this South African fella has been confirmed tonight as Clive Nates, a global equity investor and retired hedge fund manager who supports Everton and Lincoln. He's committed to putting in £300,000 over the next six months.

Judging from an interview he did with BBC Radio Lincolnshire this evening, he seems like a fairly reasonable chap. It sounds like a decent deal but I'll remain cautious. As others may be aware I'm not a fan of these random guys coming in with no links to a club.

He seems a very genuine from what he puts on twitter GG, currently doing an open ended Q&A on vitals.
300k could really help us get the promotion we all crave.

Add Lincoln to the list of bankrolled clubs then....

On a serious note, to say I'd urge caution is an understatement as these things are never what they seem. What exactly does he get/want out of it? And is it his money he is "investing"? What's his history? But if he sounds alright on Twitter then that's probably good enough to give him a stake of the club.

Yes its his money and two friends of his are also investing smaller. Been in negotiations with the club to invest since February( done face to face not twitter lol!)
There's an interview on our local radio bbc iplayer with him.
He's followed us for quite a while.
It's a decent sum but not FGR Eastleigh etc investment.

I think Bob Dorrian's holiday home is just down the road from him in SA.

Not wanting anything by what he says. Sounds as though he's a relatively young guy who retired 3 years ago, is bored and his choice was get involved with a Club he follows (Everton is probably out of his reach!) or get back into equity investing again. Obviously chose the former.

Two other guys have come in as well, with a relatively small amount. He knew Bob and contacted him back in February when the news about eh Co-op first came out. No loans - all gone/going in as shares so he/they can't recall anything.

He's an accountant by qualification, went into auditing and set up one of the first ever Hedge Fund's in SA (Peregine), is now the longest running one and has other interests.
