It is totally pointless to suspend the season. If league 2 doesnt stop how does that work? If their season finishes on time at the end of May how do you relegate anyone from that league if we are still trying to play in June/july. Alternatively how can you promote anyone as they will have insufficient time to get themselves ready for a football league season.

Surely the leagues have to follow the same stance? Otherwise if the season does come back your just playing half a season of friendlies with no chance of anything.

My view is and will remain that this season has to carry on one way or another.

The options appear to be that the DCSM either put taxpayer's money in and the National Leagues continue, or taxpayer's money goes towards putting staff of all the clubs on furlough. It will probably boil down to which is the safest option as both come at a cost, and the safest option is obvious but unfortunate to those who want to carry on playing.

Just been confirmed that our Manager and Assistant Manager are currently recovering from Covid 19. Don't know if anyone else at the club tested positive as yet.

Be just typical if they stopped the season now, we just want to watch this side play, great to watch.

Confirmation on BBC TV News just now that grant funding will be available for Steps 3-6 but only in ‘exceptional circumstances’ for the NL. DCMS to announce today..

Sounds like the DCMS are punishing the NL for the botched grant distribution.

Why do step 3-6 need funding though when they aren't going to be playing for months?

Overheads still need paying, rent, electricity, gas, maintenance, insurance, suppliers etc etc

I know this is an obvious point to make, but a global pandemic meaning you have no source of income is a fairly exceptional circumstance in itself.

As I suggested I think the government are punishing the NL for the botched distribution of the grant.

What they could do is offer the new funding in grants but only if they correct the way the first one was done. That'd create some panic at NL HQ.

Words cannot express my feelings towards the National Board. What the f**k was the point of the two week suspension other than to inconvenience every club further?

To avoid the ruckus that giving fines/point deductions to the likes of Concord, Havant and Slough for refusing to play would have caused.

Looking at all the rules they've put in place for how step 3-6 teams can spend this money, its clear as day that the government are pissed off with how the national league teams were using it.

You just need to look at the situation now, the season is on the verge of collapse and clubs are still signing players like everything is fine.

The original funding wasn’t public funds, it came from Camelot. If anyone just be biting back, it should be them.

I don’t think this is the Government biting back at how the first lot of funding was distributed, I just think this is the Government refusing to give out £11 million of tax-payers’ money and having to deal with the associated problems this would bring.

Keir Starmer attending a zoom meeting with NL. Well intentioned, but not likely to make the DCMS back down.
No chance of the government changing their mind now Keir is involved, if anything its now made sure the government will flat out refuse to even listen to suggestions.

They're that petty that they won't want to be seen as giving into Labour demands.

Starmer will recite his favourite Dulwich side through the ages, whilst singing about some fella called Edgar Kail.

Just null and void it. We all know it makes sense.

Wrexham's Netflix doc will be pretty crap with no football so perhaps Deadpool and his mate could provide the £11m in grants?

Fair play, only took Enzio dribbling past about seven Solihull defenders for us to finally score.

Looks like the NL clubs are to vote on finishing the season or not. Hopefully they will as there's a fair chance clubs will have crowds back to put some money in the coffers by April if we carry on vaccinating at a decent pace.
After all, what's the point in vaccinating if we aren't allowed to go back to normal once the at high risk are safe.

Even though fans could be allowed back April and much needed for mental health of fans, clubs near bottom will all vote for no relegation and league voided,club/manager spent budget on crap and don’t want it carrying over to next season,
League have been next to useless but should give every team voting not to play should start next season on -10 points.
Can’t wait for teams from North/south who are refusing to play in league for safety measures to be able to play in trophy because prize money available.

Why not bale the rest of the clubs out with your shed loads of money then we can all finish the season.

The clubs are getting greedy now and are essentially refusing to take any kind of financial hit.

They are not on "life support", because they have already received a generous handout and none of them are facing bankruptcy.

They are not "insolvent", this is also bullshit. Have administrators been called? No.

I'm sorry but DCMS cannot and should not budge on this. Loans are available on VERY generous terms. 20 years is an unprecedented loan term and the interest is very low.

I'm convinced nearly all clubs can afford this. If they can't, then disclose your books to the DCMS and prove it. Can't see them doing it though, they'll just carry on whining and then shut down and do nothing for months while claiming to be "community" clubs.

If they seriously think they are hard done by and that the financial hit they are being asked to take is crippling, they should go speak to literally any business in the travel and hospitality sectors.

I’m leaning more towards this viewpoint now, particularly in the National League itself, now that the terms of the loan are public. It seems a relatively small financial hit to keep operating as football clubs, which is what we’re all supposed to be, during a really difficult time.
