He'll be back...

No doubt they'll appoint his assistant anyway.

Dave Artell been appointed new manager. No experience as manager, but at least it's not Collins and it can't be more grim as its been under Davis recently.

No. We've already appointed Dave Stroll, who was the Academy Operations Manager, or something.
Still connections with the club.

You will now beat us again on the 21st which is quite triggering for me.

It's sad that it hasn't worked out because the first 18 months under Davis were superb and that team brought me some very happy memories. It hasn't been working for the best part of 4 years though and this should have happened a while ago.

I'm reasonably optimistic about Artell - he doesn't have much coaching experience and Christ knows what he'll be like tactically but he's an intelligent bloke and I don't think he'll struggle to get respect. We'll see.

I'm in shock we haven't appointed James Collins, I wouldn't be too upset if he went too (although he'll probably be a Champions League winning assistant manager in a couple of years). He was odds on to take the job.

Artell is the best we could have hoped for. He was an absolutely huge influence in our last promotion season without being the best player. Dont care about lack of experience in management, he can pull the team together and get them fighting like a normal League Two club. Less of this pretentious unique club shit.

I suppose the 'interesting' and 'should have stuck to snooker' jokes have already been done.

I'm amazed its been finally done to be honest, for Crewes sake it should've happened 2/3 years ago.

Such a shame that Crewe fans have forced out the best manager they have had and are ever likely to have. Should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.

As for Dave Artell, at least you know he won't overstay his welcome when things go bad. This fucker is the first to jump from a sinking ship

I approve of all that has happened this morning. No doubt Graham McGarry is holding the tears back whilst writing up a special hour-long tribute show for Steve Davis' time in charge.

This is the most necessary sacking in the history of managerial sackings. The man has outstayed his welcome, caused widespread disillusionment amongst fans and has even verbally attacked fans for questioning his methods with a series of unforgivable insults towards us. I'm absolutely delighted and it's telling that it has come after arguably our worst performance of the season yesterday in which Davis looked lost, helpless and out of ideas.

I will be 110% behind Dave Artell, a warrior who Davis cast aside in unceremonious fashion days after leading us to promotion. He was our best leader on the pitch since Dave Brammer and I'm a huge fan of this appointment.

All ills at our football club aren't cured yet and there are some grey clouds over the football club currently. But a big step towards a brighter future for us on the pitch has been made today with the fully deserved sacking of Steve Davis.

Now let's hope for Junior, Bowler, Dario and Hassall and a whole load of mediocre players outstaying their welcome to follow in the coming months.

Odd that you've signed a manager with no experience....

Tbh, Crewe were pretty hopeless yesterday, and I've saw some crap this season (mainly by us under Murray)

Is this until the end of the season?

It's a permanent appointment.

It's not that odd, we were always going to appoint from within. I think the club would have preferred to have given it to Collins (assistant) but, knowing how little fans respect Collins, Artell is a compromise. Fan favourite with experience outside of the Crewe bubble.

It's the tip of the iceberg though. The club is rotten and Davis was far from the only issue, he just needed to go to give us a chance of remaining a league club. A few fans have held the belief the club is in the shit as much as the typical crisis club, it's just that ours hide behind "unique club" mantra. There's some dodgy fuckers at the club, some geriatrics stuck in the 80s and some who just shouldn't be at a professional football club. As TNO says, there's a whole list of people to follow Davis.

Bowler (chairman) should be next to go. He has overseen three years of utter horseshit on the pitch and allowed the club's name and reputation to go through the mud and back. He was chairman when child abuse happened at the club and has been chairman in subsequent mis-handling. He is incompetent and doesn't deserve the respect so many fans insist on giving him.

Whereas if you've deeper issues (which hopefully you resolve) you needn't worry about relegation

Davies was never the same for Crewe after he applied for our vacant managers position and got turned down in favour of Dickov, that would make anyone go off the rails

Funnily enough that same Summer he got down to the final 2 for the Wolves job and lost it to Kenny Jackett. Being a Wolves fan all his life I reckon that killed him inside. He applied for four jobs barely a year-18 months into his reign when times were good and I feel we gave him far too long to turn things around.

It's also why I find it incredibly hard to thank him when he caused a toxic and divisive culture on the pitch and in the stands where he threw everyone apart from himself under the bus to mask his own failure. A lot of our fans are wishing him well and a lot of success in the future and I can understand that but the past three and a half years of failure makes me wish no professional football club in this country hires him. I dreaded watching us every week and wins were as rare as a Preston Guild.

I've gone from barely missing a game to barely going a game in that time, such was the disillusionment Davis caused. I'm so happy he's been sacked because he needed putting out of his misery a very long time ago. To lack dignity, to bait fans with foul and abusive language and repeatedly insult them for questioning your methods makes you look a right tosser. His man-management was also shocking, he clashed with every good player post Luke Murphy we had whilst regularly retaining favourites on generous contracts they barely deserved (his son, George Ray, Ollie Turton at the time etc).

It's also worth noting that NONE of our current squad have tweeted they're sad to see him go, doesn't that speak volumes about this man? He created a toxic culture at this football club, and now it's up to Dave Artell, Kenny Lunt and their staff to change that.

Over the fucking moon with this one. Not only has Davis gone, but I'm really pleased with Artell as manager - he won't take any shit and will command respect, he knows the club but also isn't so long-term that he'll use it as an excuse. Lovely stuff.

Must be the most inevitable sacking for a long time, just strange how long it seemed to take. Fair play for giving him the chance to turn it around but he was a good year past that point, not sure Artell is the right appointment. Ryan Lowe is a bit disappointed he wasn't considered.

Superb decision by the board, 18 months to late mind, but hey ho. There is also a rumor starting to build that fatty smurthwaite is an admirer of Davies's, it's probably not true but wouldn't that be hilarious if it came true

Money problems? We did that with Fletcher when we were hurtling out of sight.

I can't believe we brought Dickov in over Davis.

Davis may be a jobber but a jobbers always better than a c*** who assembles two relegation squads in 2 years.

Bit bemused why Lowe feels the need to come out and say why he wasn't asked. I like Lowe and tbh I'd have been just as happy with him as Artell but not sure where he got the idea he should have been top of the list. Can only assume he's working his way towards his Bury move and using this as his excuse to push it through.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Davis get a job higher than us, although he does seem shit at job interviews. His record 2011-13, plus at Nantwich, is outstanding. We all know he likes to play the woe me when it comes to budget and he'll probably use it the extreme to excuse the last three years. Someone will take a punt on him and he is a good impact manager; when it comes to developing his own team and style though, he's fucked.=

I assumed it was just because he was asked, which I guess is fair enough. The headlines made his quotes seems much stronger than they really were an all.

I just think he gave the wrong answer, standalone quotes still as if he was expecting the job. Admittedly not actually heard the audio so it could still be out of context but I suppose at least he's not on John Bowler's level of skirting round an issue.

King Kenny confirmed as assistant makes me very happy. The best possible management combination "from within" I've been wanting. Good cop, bad cop. Pinky and the Brain. Neil Baker in a kinda advisory role is great too, a lot will be saying he should be assistant but reading between the lines it doesn't sound like he's up for a full time return. Now expecting Collins to go and manage some Prem academy, before winning Azerbaijan the World Cup in 2022.

Also, Dean Ashton on RS last night was good. Deano for chairman. Sure he could afford us with his retirement compo.

Already feel that inspired and motivated by Dave Artell that I'm coming back up North for the game with Luton.

He's talked the talk magnificently and I reckon he'll win more than twice in the next 21 games so that's improvement for me. Very interesting interview and I reckon we could be seeing the end of some players' Gresty Road stays in the next couple of weeks which is fantastic as dead wood needs to be shifted for us to compete.

If he's half as influential as manager as he was as captain, he'll have us over the 50 point mark by the end of March. Even with a team full of Ollie Turton's. That Southend play-off 2nd leg where we travelled thinking he was out with a broken foot. Then team sheet had him down as a starter. Boom, won us promotion that did.

Just glad we haven't got to play Crewe again this season, unless of course it is in the play offs.
