Crewe dark horses for promotion I heard.

LOL.
Pipe down still 45 games to go. This time last year we were top having scored 6. A few games later we were about 17th.

Any chance this could be the last thread with ‘Plymbury’ in it as it is boring as fuck now.

Your clubs a shambles

Nah. Our players did the double over you last season despite being fed by out of date pies.

Bubble burst on August 3rd. Ouch.

Our biggest ever opening day away victory, rather suggests we don’t usually travel that well first up.

Crewe looked a half decent side, though a bit powderpuff. They came at us hard in the second half as you would expect, but didn't have enough quality up front to punish us. Read a funny comment on their forum - 'They had 3 shots and 3 goals' - obviously written by someone who watched the game with their eyes closed. We had nine shots on target, and on another day would have won even more convincingly.

We're still a couple of additions short up front and at the back, but cover those off and we should get straight back out of this godforsaken league.

Ryan Lowe is a legend in the making.

Are Plymouth short on legends or something?

We were absolutely awful in the first half. Eddie Nolan was embarrassing. Never been convinced Jaaskalainen is up to being first choice either and it’ll be a costly decision. We were better in the second half but Plymouth had no reason to come at us. On the plus side we created chances and against poorer opposition (most other teams) we’d have had a couple ourselves. And Daniel Powell looks like a good signing.

Not much to take from the game in terms of the rest of the season (see the league table this time last season). It was a poor performance on its own though. Must improve.

Two things I have taken from the game. Wintle missing from midfield is a massive blow and completely remove the balance to allow Lowery to get forward. I know Lancashire/Hunt were both missing but I would have been more tempted to play NG there and move somebody in at RB. Still need another CB addition before the window closes.

Jaaskalainen isn't quite ready to be first choice. Richards isn't quite ready to be first choice either... Offer Garrett a short-term deal until January to put himself in the shop window or look to bring a more experience Keeper in. No point bringing in an unproven Premiership/Championship keeper now.

Plymouth looked decent, especially the first half and will be up there this season. Not quite as fluent as Bury just yet but it was the first game of the season and you can see the type of football Lowe wants to play. It's a shame things didn't work out the way they did when Lowe rejected the change to become assistant manager all those years ago. What could have been.

Saw a few Bury fans walking into the game.

One of them posted on Pasoti. They wanted a look at some of their players from last year. General sense they gave was they as you say we were not yet as fluent, that Mayor had a quiet game and our defense and keeper looked better than their’s last season. This last point will surprise many Argo fans as we see the back three as a weak point.

Wow, is that all it takes to become "a legend" in plymouth? I know you don't have much to be happy about down there but even still, as the doctor often tells you, thats a bit premature.

Plenty to be happy about down here friend, but that comment is an odd one.

I had to google Garratt on Saturday to see if I'd missed him signing for someone. What a peculiar situation. When we released him I assumed he had all but got a deal elsewhere. I now find it properly odd we released him so quickly. Either we misjudged his intentions or he misjudged his chances of finding a new club.

I'd swallow our pride offer him a year or two. He's twice the keeper of Jaaskalainen and Richards and this situation is nothing more than self-harm.

3-0 certainly flattered us as Crewe certainly had the better of the second half and forced Palmer into a couple fine saves. Deserved the 3 points though and on another day it could have been 5-4. Going to be an exciting season thats for sure.

About as balanced a view of a game I've seen from an opposition fan.

Best team won but the score didn't tell the whole story, I honestly don't think there was that much between the two teams. Plymouth were decent and to be fair I think they will get even better the longer the season goes.

We have a few things to work on, especially at the back. I'm hearing positive things about the ownership of the club which could be why we haven't signed anyone in the last few weeks. Certainly not worried about our chances yet, then again a similar result at Oldham on Saturday then I might change my mind.

Yeah 3-0 implies a gulf in class which it certainly wasn't. First half our high press, work rate in the middle and movement in the final third was excellent. Second half you knocked on the door repeatedly and only a mixture of decent defending, great goalkeeping and wasteful strikers kept your tally at zero. Good luck for the season, I know you finished strongly last year and I expect you to take a lot of points from the top teams this year.

Nine shots each on target suggests it was not one way.

Does it not say something that he's spent the summer on trial at Bury, a club that might soon not even be in existence or in the FL?

I think when you reflect on Saturday, Jaaskelainen made one big mistake, which was the 3rd. If you watch the first 2 goals back, I don't feel like he should take much blame. The first was from a dreadful pass onto his weak foot by Nolan, right in front of his goal. The 2nd was when he came racing out of his goal to stop Grant getting in behind. And besides, the defence shouldn't be letting Grant get a shot away, plus it was an inch perfect finish.

I think it's silly to be talking about pulling the plug after one game. Can you imagine if we did that with every new player that gets put into the starting XI? Were he from the academy as Garratt was, I think a lot more fans would be asking for patience. It's tough being a young goalie. Outfield players have their mistakes mostly covered, but a goalie makes a mistake and it's a goal.

Hey, he might well not be good enough, I'm not saying he is. But I want a bit more evidence before yanking him and going back to a player that can't find a single other club that wants him, even as a back up. Or a guy that is destined for life as a career back up or non-league keeper once the Alex finally move on from him.

Because when you look at his total body of work from Saturday, Will made 2 poor clearances after being put in a tough situation on both occasions, made 2-3 smart saves and then let in a soft one at the end. If he struggles next week, give Richards a run out at Middlesborough and start looking up alternative keepers. And not Garratt either.

He was poor in his few games last season. Not entirely to blame against FGR (but conceded 3) but very poor and shaky against Grimsby which should have been the warning shot that he's not ready. Not to say he won't be good enough further down the line, even later on this season. Just throwing him in the deep end as the no.1 is just a bad idea, which will help no one.

Interesting debate about your keepers. We have two. 22 year old Palmer from WBA who played Saturday, and 20 year home grown Michael Cooper. There does not appear to be a lot between them (indeed when I saw them at the open session last week I thought Cooper was the better of the two). Cooper will become our number one at some time, just not yet.

Surprised Crewe let Garratt go, decent keeper and was outstanding at Vale Park last year and always seemed to be talked up as going to end up higher up the league ladder with a decent sale.

As good as Palmer was on Saturday. I remember him playing for Notts at our place last season and he was very shaky. Young keeper tend to be very inconsistent. As with Jaaskelainen, he's capable of playing a blinder ala Palmer on Saturday, but equally due to a lack of experience can drop a clanger and be very shaky.

Garratt went through the same teething troubles 5 years ago. Watching some of his highlights, he was making similar mistakes. Gave away a penalty in his 3rd appearance, flapping at crosses in his 4th.

He was broken in with a terrible relegation threatened team as well. I just think a bit of patience is needed before writing him off for another 6-12 months. If this were a full back or CM or winger, I don't think we're having this conversation.
