Don't understand this paragraph from the BBC on the game.

'With Chelsea, Manchester City, Southampton and Tottenham all eliminated, this tournament represents Liverpool's best chance of winning a trophy in a disappointing season.'

How do they say a 'disappointing season'? It isn't over yet and there is plenty of things to fight for, who know's what could happen. Idiots...

How far are we into the season, coming up to 3/4 or so? Last season they finished second and played some fantastic attacking football. This season they've been dumped out of the CL at the very first stage, they certainly aren't going to be challenging for the title like they did last season and top 4 is going to be difficult, not impossible, for them to achieve. On top of that the football has been poor until recently, the goals haven't flowed and the defence has been absymal (again, until recently). That's without mentioning the way Rodgers re-invested the Suarez money into the squad.

Of course it's been a disappointing season so far, I can't think of many Liverpool fans that would say this is a satisfying position to be in on the back of last season. It's salvageable, though, if Liverpool continue to improve and play like they have been lately and avoid more injuries to key players.

I think the difference between having Sturridge and not is massive. Can't imagine that Liverpool wouldn't have had an extra 4 or 5 points at this stage of the season had he been fit. Obviously it was up to the club to sign better cover, but still. I think Rodgers can always be trusted to find the right solution, he just seems to take an age to get there. I know I had been saying that Sterling should be played up front for weeks before he actually did it. Seemed obvious to a lot of people.

Sturridge's injury clearly hit them hard but you include any injuries in your analysis of a season, it just adds to the overall disappointment in the end. Rodgers knew that his main man (after the departure of Suarez) was injury prone and he didn't address that effectively - as you mention.

I don't feel its been disappointing at all tbh. Yes the CL campaign was poor as was the way the new players just weren't playing well when they came to the club; but they are now playing well and most of those new signings are settling in, they are still in Europe, took Chelsea all the way in the league cup and had it not been for the brilliant Courtois and some better finishing, they'd be in the final of the League Cup, they are into the QF's of the FA Cup and aren't far off of the main priority of finishing top four once again.

I just think that article was nit-picking a bit too much.

Nice to see Pardew accept we were the better team and deserved the result. I also liked his comment about how Palace could learn a lot from the way we played.

Loved watching it. And even when they scored I didn't for a minute think we wouldn't find the net at some point. I wouldn't have been too disappointed with a draw and a replay at Anfield to be honest, it's not as if Palace away is an easy game for anyone. But it was good to win and get through to the next round without the bother of an extra fixture.

Exactly what we thought, you just had a feeling Liverpool were going to score, we needed gayle to put us 2-0 up when he had the chance and you might not have looked so confident
