Liam Hatch - Couldn't hit a barn door for about 3 years before a 4 month spell when he hit about 20 goals earned him a 150k move to Peterborough. My memories of Hatchy mainly consist of him losing the ball in the oppositions final third but tracking back the length of the pitch to make an outstanding tackle.

I believe Hatch scored one goal for the posh, typically against Barnet! He now plays centre half for the reformed Darlington team.

He was a dirty c@@@ that Liam Hatch

Based on Murphy's definition, he definitely doesn't fit in this thread - in fact he probably deserves a thread to himself. Despite "legend" being overused, he truly was a U's legend as well as a tremendous bloke. Uniquely, he was also a Posh legend who loved both clubs and hated the hatred that the rivalry generated at times. Although only currently available through Facebook, Andrew Bennett's eulogy captures the essence of the guy, who has died after a number of years suffering the same form of dementia (with probably the same cause - heading the old style footballs) that struck Jeff Astle:

I think Chris Turner and Barry Fry were quite close. There was definitely a time when Turner was manager at Cambridge and then Peterborough that we got a lot of players on loan or bought from these clubs - Gary Bull, Gary Poole, George Reilly and Steve Welsh to name but four.

So close that he sold his controlling interest in Posh to the "fat boro ba$*@*&" to cheer him up.

To quote Andrew Bennett: "In December 1992 Turner fronted a £1m takeover of the club and was appointed as chairman, with Lil Fuccillo as team manager; a year later, with Posh struggling in Division One, Fuccillo resigned and Turner took over the reins again. They were relegated in 1994 and John Still was appointed manager with Turner reverting to chairman. At the end of the 1995-96 season he sold his controlling interest in the club to Barry Fry, and became its managing director in September, then ‘football co-ordinator’ in 1997 when Fry sold out to Peter Boizot."
