Nicked from the L2 forum.

We've got a lot to do still, Riis and Evans probably won't be back till autumn so a proper striker is a must.

Woodman
Diaby, Storey, Hughes
Whiteman
Ramsay, Browne, Holmes, Brady
Frokjaer-Jensen
Keane

Cornell, Cunningham, Lindsay, Ledson, McCann, Potts, Woodburn

Injured: Riis & Evans

By the looks of it we’ll be alternating between 4-3-3 and 4-1-4-1 in games

Dawson

Palmer
Iorfa
Ihiekwe
James

Vaulks
Bannan
Byers

Wilks
Gregory
Windass

Could maybe stay up but the problem is we’ve only got 16 in the whole squad. Desperately need 3 or 4 starters plus another 3 or 4 for competition.

We have been using a new 4-2-3-1 system this pre-season and expect us to drop the 3-4-2-1 which worked so well last season simply because of the increase in attacking quality we will face.

Its pretty tough to pick with 3 or 4 still expected through the door but hopefully it will be along these lines.

Hazard

Kessler-Hayden Scarr Gibson Miller

Randall. Houghton (Need new)

Whittaker C. Wright Mumba

Hardie (potential new)

With a few bits of quality through the door it looks pretty solid to completely unbiased eyes!

Do you think Hardie will do much in this league? I know when we were linked with him last January, the general view of Plymouth fans i asked was that he's probably just a backup player at this level.

Personally I think Hardie’s game is pretty limited and the step up in quality will show that.

Don’t get me wrong pace kills and he isn’t a bad finisher but without the ability to hold up the ball, bring others into play and retain possession when under the cosh I think Schumacher may be looking for a more physical presence this season.

I’d probably try and fit Pleggy in the starting 11 if possible. Still think the left back area looks weak if we’re playing a 4. The back up to Miller is a player who was a squad player last season in Saxon Earley. I’m also not sure Miller has enough about him defensively.

Definitely need a new striker, I’d have two. I think Hardie is a good option but we’ll need more. Definitely need a new centre mid.

I assume our current full strength is:

Walton

Clarke
Woolfenden
Burgess
Davis

Luongo or Taylor
Morsy

Burns or Hutchinson
Chaplin
Broadhead

Hirst

Still expecting at least 2, maybe 3 signings. Likely a striker and CB.

You'd think his pace could be handy in this league as in theory there will be more space to exploit vs league one as teams will attack more.

Mumba, Whittaker and Hardie would be incredible on the counter attack surely!

I suppose that is what we are all hoping to be honest. My slight concern is that when we are pinned in (which we will be alot I would imagine) and need somebody to hold the ball up or win a free kick, Hardie is pretty lightweight and ineffective.

If the game opens up though and Mumba, Hardie and Whittaker get room to run then yeah, we could cause a few problems for sure.

With a fully fit and available squad I'd guess:

Woodman
Storey, Whatmough, Hughes
Whiteman
Potts, Browne, Frokjaer, Millar
Riis, Keane

Cornell, Lindsay, Ramsay, Brady, McCann, Ledson, Holmes, Osmajic, Stewart
Although I'd expect Ramsay and Osmajic to be pushing hard for starts. Pretty good depth with the likes of Best, Bauer, Cunningham, Woodburn, and Evans not making the 20.

Should have plenty more options available for the Plymouth game, providing there are no setbacks.

I was one who thought Hardie would struggle to step up, but so far he's been brilliant. Looks sharp and his goal returns have shown it. Long may it continue.

Should be an.... interesting.... game at your place after the break.

Yeah, he seems to have stepped up easily. I hope Blackpool are kicking themselves considering the shite they have up front.

Could be a good game, we'll likely have some options for the first time this season. Whiteman, Riis, Brady, and Stewart possibly in contention, plus the two new signings.

Browne's future still unconfirmed and Millar almost certainly not coming back. We're comfortably bottom half right now. We may look to cash in on Emil Riis too, who only has a year left.

Woodman
Storey, Lindsay, Hughes
Potts, McCann, Whiteman, Brady
Frokjaer
Keane, Riis

Cornell, Best, Whatmough, Bauer, Ledson, Holmes, Mawene, Osmajic, Stewart
Wingbacks, an RCB, LCB, a central midfielder, and a target man to replace Evans are definitely needed. Doubt we'll be that busy though.

Hopefully we can move on Bauer and Ledson, and probably send Stewart out on loan, maybe Best & Mawene too.

Cornell is a shit backup keeper but we extended his deal because he's a good cheerleader and doesn't complain about not playing.

Really hard to know with us as we have a few moving parts in terms of players yet to go who everyone expects will. But in terms of whose actually on the books at this moment, In a 343 which we ended up with last season, I’d go for:

GK: Kaminski
CB: Mengi, Burke, Bell
WB: Ogbene, Doughty
CM: Nakamba, Clark
FW: Morris, Adebayo, Chong

And subs from: Shea (GK), Hashioka, Pelly, Townsend, Woodrow, Taylor, McAtee, Andersen, Brown.

Doesn’t include Osho who we have a contract offer out for but hasn’t signed yet. Of that I’m expecting Adebayo, Doughty probably going out and possibly Mengi too. Some of those sub players might move on too (McAtee, Woodrow, Townsend perhaps)

Would mean that we would need probably another centre half, LWB, RWB as it’s a waste of Ogbene there, and in my view at least 1 probably 2 central midfield players of high quality and maybe a rotational option striker. I actually don’t like that 343 formation either tbh, gets very overrun in midfield so kind of hope Edwards moves away from that

We would be relegated before a ball was kicked, but I anticipate it will look very different (particularly in midfield & upfront) come the start of the season and we should see minimum 10-12 players through the door.

Released two Forwards in Boddvarsson and Jerome, Gomes out till well into the new season Charles rumoured also to miss the start and Nlundulu simply not good enough leaves us with Collins and Adaboyejo
We could be in the market to bring in a forward or two on loan.
Will Mcateer and Taylor get into your first team squad this coming season...........Would take either until Christmas

I can’t see us not trying to integrate Taylor into the first team picture I have to say given the season he had.

McAtee a little different although he’s not really a true forward and more a number 10 type (not that we have ever seen him play!)

If either become available I think it’s likely to be late in the window depending on what other business is done

I've updated based on our latest signings. Instead of getting relegated with 20pts, I would anticipate the above gets relegated with 30 points.

I'm still hoping for 8-10 new signings through the door.

More interesting now, the defensive unit is more or less the same that finished last season so strongly with Adams signed. Nyambe was injured for large parts, so Bradley/Forsyth filled in. We conceded six goals (including one penalty) in Adams’ 17 games and he was in the running for MOTM in more than half of those 17 games - big player in this system. Perfect water carrier. All that being said, I’d still expect to be relegated - although we are expecting 7/8 more years though the door which should give us a chance.

I see Portsmouth are going to be without Bishop as in some pre season tests a heart issue has been picked up that requires surgery.

Great news that it’s been picked up as there needs to be some learning from what happened to Lockyer but potentially a major blow for Pompey

Wonder if this is the same issue that was flagged when he had a medical at Shitpool.

Yup, could be out for the season which is a big blow for us.

Means we'll need another striker although I think Kusini Yengi can make the step up.

Likely starting lineup, however if Josh Murphy recovers from having his ankle booted he'll play LW and I'd expect Lane to drop out and Ritchie play on RW.

Bench likely to be GK Jordan Archer, RB Zack Swanson, CM Lowery, CM Moxon, CM/RB Devlin, LW/RW G Whyte, FW Sorenson, CM Ben Stevenson AM/RW Callum Lang, FW Christian Saydee and possibly Lane if Murphy is fit

We have no backup CB - Reegan Poole still in rehab from knee ligament injury and Mcintrye injured or backup LB - new aussie lad Jacob Farrell injured in training going into the weekend

Really hard to know how we will line up going forward until we appoint a manager and know his preferred system.

We still need to sign another centre back and it sounds like we might not be finished strengthening out wide.

From the current lot i'd try something like below:

Woodman
Kesler-Hayden - Whatmough - Lindsay - Hughes
Whiteman, Thordarson
Osmajic - Frokjaer - Okkels
Riis

Subs: Cornell, Storey, Best, Potts, Brady, McCann, Holmes, Greenwood, Keane

Others: Pradic, Bauer, Ledson, Mawene, Stewart, Evans

Rather unbelievably Tom Lockyer returned to training today.

Training by himself only and as a part of a rehab programme only but I personally never thought we’d see him anywhere close.
