Bristol City Vs Cardiff? Eh?

We beat Evian away 1-0 in 2012 during a friendly match. A great derby with them surrendering on their own turf.

Never really understood inter city rivalries. Don't get 'em. Think the fans just get worked up because they need a derby.

Saying that, people probably wouldn't understand our weird incestuous relationship with the Sheep. I don't really get it either.

Inter city rivalries are proper derbies not made up ones like yours with Derby, let's be reyt without Brian Clough there'd be fuck all.

Strange comment. Two teams competing to be the best in the city... Having to live around and work with rival fans day in day out and hear their deluded comments. The office banter, the rows at family gatherings...the absolute dread of having to go into school/work the next day after having lost to them and the utter joy of doing it when you've won. Now that's a proper derby and imho its much more intense than having a rival from another city that you only see twice a season inside the stands.

Many of the most renowned rivalries in the world are between teams in the same city for example Boca Juniors-River Plate, Rangers-Celtic, AC-Inter, Arsenal-Spurs.

As someone who lives in a 2 club City where it literally is 'every day', a derby with a club from a different city a la Swansea / Malaysian rent boys or the cheats / Oxford seems as weird to me as a 2 City rivalry may appear to supporters of a 1 club town. I suppose it would be a bit like our rivalry with the rent boys over the bridge, you don't like them but don't really interact at all (unless you're BS3 red who lives in the land of sheep). Even going for a beer in Bristol has its' issues as the rovers players found out when they innocently walked into a bar full of City fans a week or 2 ago.
Don't get me wrong, my arguing about it days are long since over but working and living with you derby rivals has good points and bad points. I can have a wind up with the gasheads (still live in a predominantly gas area, they've reappeared lately) and there's always decent banter but there are certain pubs and places that I just won't go to which is daft really.
A 1 City rivalry is more intense IMHO as it never goes away, never!

Let's be reyt, without Brian Clough Forest and Derby would probably be on par with Wednesday and United, I'll give you that.

Our local derby is weird in a lot of ways I'll admit that.

I suppose a derby is what it is to the fans and players involved, so its hard for outsiders to say. I just find having this faux hatred with people you live, work and are probably related to is just a bit odd.

Hmm I see your point but the examples you've given are a bit different. There are vast differences in class and politics in the Boca-River Plate derby. And we all know about the history in the Old Firm. Arsenal Spurs is London based, that's a bit different as well I think due to the sheer size of the place. I dunno, maybe I'm missing something and maybe it's because we co-exist with the little Magpies over the river, but I just don't get how a city can be so divided over football.

No rivalry with County at all then?

Can honestly say I don't know a Forest fan who will say he doesn't like County. When they went down there was a combination of some people being a bit sad to see them struggle and others quite amused.

Some of their fans don't like us (as you will see in December when the army of Pies comes into this forum and starts laughing at our annual implosion), but on the whole there is no rivalry at all.

Very different to Bristol then. I suppose you have other comparable clubs nearby with Derby , Leicester and Cov very near plus all the midlands clubs.
The 2 Bristol clubs genuinely dislike each other and take great joy in the others failures. A bit sad really but it doesn't half get the blood pumping! :box: There were numerous City fans in the Grimsby end at Wembley for the gas game, resplendent in our red and white, maybe that explains it!

There's genuine hatred nowt faux about it, you'd have to live it to experience it, mate I like Forest but let's not get into a debate about history and success, fuck Derby though they're shit.

I've always liked Wednesday as well. Your friends up the road however....

I think the point I was making is you can't reduce our rivalry to Brian Clough. You can definitely say we would be 2 much, much smaller clubs without him, but the rivalry would still be there.

I don't understand what's not to get... all of europes passionate footballing cities are divided over sport. Manchester, Liverpool, Milan, Madrid, Rome, London, Glasgow, Moscow... Then further afield, you've got Rio and Sao Paulo which have a number of teams involved in fierce rivalries.

I guess it's just different to what you are used to because as you say, County have always been too small to really be considered a rival to Forest.

Until the late 50s County were the best team in Nottingham, by a mile.

Last years Home Derby was sickening to say the least. We'd dominated 90 minutes of Football, and were deservedly leading 2-1 before 2 late goals took it away from us! I nearly cried.

For the best games, back in the early 2000's, we won at Hillsbrough on consecuitive years, both with last minute winners. Watching King Ronnie bow to all 4 corners was something that i'll never forget. Great times!

Normal definition is two teams in the same "area", not necessarily in the same city as some seem to imply. Even says it in Chinese: 同一地區各運動隊伍之間的)體育賽事,大型比賽.
Wolves West Brom is a local derby and we are not in the same city. We are in Wolverhampton and they are in Gomorrah.
Laughed, tho, when I heard someone talking about the Ryanair derby....PSG against Celtic.

That whole thing about Forest and County is odd, because there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of animosity between them and that's unusual. Excluding London, are there other places with two teams that don't hate each other?

Our two derbies with Fulham this season were some of the best games I've ever experienced. Won the first 2-1 coming from behind with a stoppage time goal, in our first league derby in over 10 years. Won the second 4-1 with 4 belters from distance, in front of 7,000 of our own fans in their stadium. I'm not sure I'll experience a better atmosphere at a football match than we had at times that day.

Bring on the derbies with QPR next season!

We all have one Derby County, but it is a local rivalary. I'm really not sure why Wednesday fans always shy away from this. We took another good following to Hillsbrough again this year. 4500 to see them sit 10 men behind the ball and play out a 0-0. To see they finished in the top half, they were very dull at times!!

Without sounding disrespectful fella its a one way thing, in my time watching football we've rarely been in the same league and our main meetings have been pre season friendlies, hence I've never found it a rivalry. I get you lot 'hate' us, more so the Rotherham owls but I'll be frank I quite like Rotherham, nice local little club.....

Not to us, we have one Derby.....

There are three types of derby:

Type 1: mutually acknowledged by both sets of fans. e.g. us Wolves West Brom, Villa Blouse, Wednesday United, Arsenal Spurs, Forest Derby, Pompey Saints, etc. Also known as ding-dong derbies by radio presenters of a certain age who also use the term "early doors" a lot.
Type 2: acknowledged by one side's fans, but mocked by the other side e.g. Bournemouth Saints, Rotherham other Yorkshire teams, Yeovil Swindon. Also known as 'Yeh right derbies"
Type 3: WTF derbies are matches that American soccer rooters think are derbies because they have no fucking clue where anywhere is in Yurp, e.g. Sheffield Wednesday - Ajax, Gillingham - Leeds, Malmo - Real Betis.

I make it four.

Don't think i've seen Reading play in a derby game yet. Last one was 2004 and a few years before that for the last league derby.

Went to the Manor Ground a few times, that was interesting. This was when a lot of notorious Chelsea faces were following Reading away as well.

Nothing on the scale of Portsmouth-Southampton, mind. Went to the game in 2011 and it was absolute carnage, that is a proper rivalry.
