Out of interest, what are your opinions on Andre Gray and Joey Barton as individuals?

Had a read through your messageboards on Saturday night, and to my surprise both of them were getting a few peters for their performances as of late. Same with George Boyd, who I thought would be prolific in this league.

Had a read through your messageboards on Saturday night, and to my surprise both of them were getting a few peters for their performances as of late. Same with George Boyd, who I thought would be prolific in this league.

Andre Gray started really well, but the goals have dried up somewhat recently. I don't think we can criticise him too much overall though; without his goals we'd be further down the league for certain.

Joey Barton hasn't set the world alight. If we had a fully fit squad is prefer to see a CM pair of David Jones and Dean Marney but Marney has been out for a long while with a serious knee injury. Long term I don't think Barton will be a regular starter.

As for Boyd, his main contribution to the team has always been his work ethic. Don't get me wrong, he has rare moments of genius, but it's not consistent. He often runs more than anyone else in the team though which last year in the Premier League was great because we were commonly on the back foot and he provided a lot of defensive cover. This year we're hoping to be dominant in games and unlock the opposition. He's less effective in this regard.

All this comes with the caveat that I don't see anywhere near as many games as I would like, so my insights are limited. But even a brief look at our results tells you we aren't scoring enough goals.
