I think it’s a bit of crossed wires here as his original post was saying our first half performance was embarrassing and not a slur on Hartlepool at all.

Yeah that's how I read it as well, personally not in the least bit triggered but we were much the better side and fully warranted the win.

Hartlepool fans getting rattled after winning 4-1 on a sunny Good Friday. Looking like they could easily stay up now too.

I just don't get why they're so angry all the time. Just need to calm down.

It all started when you STOLE our manager.

Who continues to do a fantastic job, comfortably the best manager in this league.

37% possession for us today.

This is a big reason why we find it impossible to beat teams at the top end of the league. We’re absolute experts in giving the ball straight back to our opponents. Against mid table and bottom end teams, we more often than not find a way of scoring with our limited time on the ball, and don’t come under pressure as much at the other end despite giving them so much possession. But against top sides, they deal with our limited possession and lack of quality, and they use the ball better, putting us under more pressure when we constantly give the ball away.

Can't blame them because it looks like they are about to stay up but the Hartlepool fans need to calm down a bit, they just beat a side that's been on the beach since they lost to Brighton.

Sooner this season is over the better, we all know what's missing from our side, it's been missing the last two season, question is will it be finally solved this summer?

I might be wrong but I don’t think anyone’s getting truly carried away haha.

If you can’t celebrate a 4-1 win away from home
Then when can you?

Still plenty work to do, no one thinks otherwise and if they do then they need their head checking

That's only because everyone knows Mansfield is a cup final for teams like Grimsby

Well naturally.

But please feel free to roll over again, it’d be most welcome

Shite from us today, didn't offer anything. Wasn't a 3-0 game, but can't argue with the penalties. Dead rubbers from now on.

Glad to see Pools win, drag Harrogate down.

Obviously we haven’t lost against ourselves.

Obviously I’m referring to the defeats against the teams at the top who we’ve actually played. Orient, Northampton, Stevenage, Stockport etc. Lost to em all.

We were shit but still should've won. Too many poor results like today over the course of the season is why we won't get top 3.

Yet that's not really the reason we lost to anyone in our latest poor run or many of our defeats earlier on in the season such as the home game against Orient where we were often losing when we had more possession.

Did you watch the Orient game? We were poor on the ball, kept giving it away. Yes the goal had an unfortunate deflection, but it came from our goal kick, gave the ball straight back to them. A mixture of crap distribution and crap ball control. One of many examples that day of us gifting the ball straight back to our opponents putting ourselves on the back foot. We just never put a spell of sustained possession. It’s not the sole reason we lose these games but it plays a part.

And I thought we were quite poor in possession today, although improved when Devitt came on. But Tranmere didn’t really have much to capitalise on us giving them the ball.

That’s got to be an area we look to improve on in our summer recruitment. I think it could make a big difference against the better sides.

Against teams in the top 7, we’ve taken 6 points from a possible 30.

We deserved the win today purely for our first half performance alone, which we totally outplayed Nerdford in apart from the last ten mins of it.

Second half we got the rub of the green, Vigs made 2 good saves and Mallan had a shot which hit the post and trickled across the goal line but didn't go in. But we also had a few chances and breaks to nick a third.

We was running on empty at the end, no fit striker on the bench and a hot day in Manchester.

Ref was a bit crap, incident at the end took him 5mins to sort out, which lead to more tempers boiling over because he was so slow.

Wellens loving it at the end and in his post match interview where he digs the class of Nerdy2 out as not being very supportive in his time there.

I can now see the finish line in sight.

Possession is overrated. It's what you do with it that counts and how you maintain your shape when you don't.

We've often struggled to break teams down this season when we've dominated possession. At the same time looking solid out of possession.

Our worst performance of the season against Mansfield at home we had 62%

We're at our best when we attack with speed, getting the ball forward quickly. Whenever we slow down possession we've often looked pedestrian and lacking creativity.

Some of our best performances of the season;

Grimsby Away: 33%
Doncaster Home: 41%
Tranmere Away: 38%
Salford Away: 37%
Crewe Away: 45%
Crawley Away: 34%

There's quite a few other games where we conceded plenty of possession and won. 3 other impressive wins against Barrow and twice against Hartlepool only saw us share possession.

Using possession as a reason for our lack of wins against the top teams is a lightweight excuse that doesn't hold much water.

I'd say a fairer time to judge our performances against the top teams is after we've played Northampton, Stockport and Salford at home.

I mean it helps to have possession but if you can be clinical with it.

Carlisle 0-4 mansfield 39% possession
Swindon 2-4 mansfield 45% possession.

Last two games have really shown how important Quinn is and how good he is despite the fact he’s about 40 now.

Beat Rochdale on Monday and we can go in to these last few games with some proper form.

Anyone else see Rochdales 4th goal get given yesterday despite clearly not being over the line?

The luck they've needed all season.

It was an absolutely awful decision from an assistant referee who made countless other awful decisions during the game. Clearly he is nowhere near up to L2 standard. In fact, he would be useless in the local Sunday league.

Having said that, we deserved our win and played much better than a strangely out of sorts Walsall team.

They will point to that decision, plus their disallowed goal a minute beforehand ( I thought there was a foul at the far post rather than an offside) but in all honesty, we have had several really bad decisions go against us earlier in the season, plus one or two in our favour.

Ultimately, we shouldn't be a cert for the drop but a combination of poor Boardroom decisions plus poor Management by firstly Stockdale and latterly Bentley looks like any last gasp revival will be too little too late.

Clinical is the main thing. Worth noting that taking a shot on goal will give possession back to the opposition, whether that's via the keeper or from the centre spot.
