Not much excitement for this one. Despite our play off fate being in our own hands it feels like we’re on a bit of a downer following Tuesday’s loss.

Vale have improved lately and are always a threat with Pope and Whitfield. I’m hearing Oyeleke is out isn’t he? That can only be a good thing....

A win today would get everyone’s optimism back up going into another home game on Good Friday so plenty to play for...

I predict a tight game but one we may just shade. 1-0 Bowman to score.

Pope doesn’t start at the minutes and Whitfield hasn’t been getting a look in, mainly down to the form of David Worrall who is finally showing the player he is after being frozen out by Aspin.

We should be buzzing after winning with ten men from behind then winning the Derby. Tough game but fancy us to get a point to close in on safety.

Would be nice to win and have Notts and Yeovil lose and end the season today mind but highly unlikely all three will happen.

One change from last week Manny out with Hannant coming back in.

Miller up front and super sub Tom Pope looking for a third goal from the bench in three.

Mountain to climb although apparently absolutely shocking decision.

Just seen it absolutely laughable! Pope would have 10 penalties a game if that was a foul!

bit of a theme this season isnt it?

Could be with the loss at Cheltenham and Cambridge ending in apologies from officials.

Totally killed our game plan that today and it’s not even debatable. If anything he’s fouling Howkins!

Sounds by the commentary we are getting absolutely nothing of this idiot.

Haven't seen any of it but if it is the case we have been on the short end of the stick with a couple of decisions just hope the team don't let it affect them discipline wise and someone ends up doing something daft. As long as its just a goal we are more than in the game.

Probably time for another club statement I think :shifty:

Hannant will probably do something stupid in frustration and see red! Think two of theirs have been booked in one incident too.

Stayed in it after being rocked by that decision, I think it may be time for his holiness. Wouldn’t fuck about until 65 minutes just get him on and give us a presence.

Suppose we were owed some luck after the farce of a penalty at Cheltenham last week.

Sounds like we’re good value for the lead anyway as we’ve created all the best chances. We need to get the second goal ASAP as 1-0 is dangerous.

Wasn't that bad a decision. He was being leant on heavily. Sort of decision we have been having against us lately.
Should be further ahead really. I suspect we will pay for the missed chances.

Let’s wait for 2-0 before the Pontiff comes on! One thing Askey could do better is earlier changes.

was always going to be one of the more difficult remaining games, but was hoping we might pinch a point.

bottom 3 all losing so today is looking like a free hit

Yeah as I’ve said before previous games if we lose and the others lose it’s better than us drawing and one of the bottom two winning for example! All about safety and the takeover at the minute.

Despite some diabolical refereeing that’s still a dire performance after recent weeks, but other results mean it appears to not matter too much.

A week closer to safety.

Disappointing result but no real harm done overall. Think we're already safe in all honesty and were before the game. It is possible one of the bottom three may get up to 47 points (even then our goal difference is such that they would really need 48) but certainly not two of them. Just need to bounce back next time out against Stevenage.

Congrats on the win Exeter.

Yep well done Exeter, Law is arguably the best we’ve faced this season based on the home game and that second was a stunner.

Devon Lad will be plotting league two domination again!

Stevenage looks tough after their result today actually and this on paper was our easiest away tie which isn’t a slate on Exeter but we have two sides going for the autos away!

Should be ok though. Yeovil losing that today is a killer for them you’d think and Notts will surely have at least one more shitter in the tank.

Big win, sounded thoroughly deserved. Just seen Boateng’s goal and it was classy as fuck.

4 point gap over 8th puts us in a good place and another home game coming up which we must win.

Well beaten in the end and a great second goal. We weren't helped by an absolutely appalling decision by the ref to give a penalty. It's never a penalty in a million years, even with a biased hat on and it really knocked us off our stride for 30 minutes. When you're 1-0 down inside a minute, the game plan goes out the window.

We weren't really good enough after that but there wasn't much in the game, particularly second half, Exeter just have a couple of quality players, which is the difference between top and bottom usually.

Well deserved win today. Boatengs goal was class and we look like we are back on track, though difficult to tell against a poor side who didn't create very much at all.
PS definitely a pen, get over it

I'd say you did enough to win ,but it's difficult to tell if you're any good as I don't think you needed to be great today. Second half was pretty even and neither side created much and I never felt like we were playing against far superior opposition. Having said that, we huffed and puffed but never really threatened. We have a reasonable base, but lack the one or two quality players that Exeter have. It's pretty much the same with most teams at this level, you only need a couple of quality players and the rest can be bang average but you often have enough to win a game.

I'm hoping in the next couple of years that we are that team, as we really should be competing in the top half at this level.

We looked a bit lethargic, probably because we didn't have anything to play for ultimately as we were safe after last week.

As for the penalty, if you asked 100 neutrals whether it was or not then 99 would say not. It was a joke of a decision and you'd have said exactly the same if it was the other way around. I guarantee we wouldn't have been awarded that today. The ref was a shambles first half. I'm fed up of how poor they are.

I was pleased Askey didn’t dress it up, honesty is refreshing really. Compared to recent performances it seems to be chalk and cheese and shows the work needed in the summer to get that consistency to be where we ought to be given the clubs size.

Interesting comments from him about the high press not working today because Exeter’s back four boot it clear and don’t hold on to it long enough in those areas, we need to find another way to play against sides more direct than Crewe, Mansfield etc in that case!

Plenty to think about in terms of lessons with this new system today and that’s no bad thing.

City need to be more clinical at both ends of the pitch. Still a bit too slow defensively and not linking up well enough in attack. We need to up our game if we are going to get anywhere in the playoffs.

That being said a solid 3 points against a reasonable L2 side is nothing to complain about.

It’s a good result for you despite our position it’s only the fifth away defeat in 8 months and third since November. Don’t think we’ve conceded 2 away since October 6th either. We’ve generally been absolutely solid away but Boateng was another level. Could of and should of closed him quicker but that finish was outstanding, similar to Conlons goal against yeovil for us a few weeks back.

Exeter fans genuinely believe it was a penalty.

There's nothing like being blinded by bias...

As I said before, Exeter deserved the victory, not by being scintillating but by playing us on a very poor day compared to recent weeks. Neither team really dominated but Exeter had a few more shots on goal as you would expect from the home side.

The penalty however was an absolute joke. You won't see those given anywhere else. Our defender was trying to stop the attacker backing into him. What is he meant to do? Step out the way and let him through? If we're giving fouls for that I give up with the game.

Anyway, we move on.. I'm hopeful that we will be on a par or above the likes of Exeter, Lincoln etcetera one day, we just need a better owner and better players!

Trying to stop him backing in to him? Heard it all now. He was trying to stop him from playing, and wrestling with him. Many others will have gone down under the circumstances.
This is deflection from your own poor performance. We fully deserved to win the game and would have done so irrespective of the penalty.
