Unfortunately it won't be heading home to Scotland - and never will.

Ach, really? I thought you had it in 1967 when you beat the World Cup Champs England in a friendly on the hollow fields of Wembley ;)

Anyone but England though Dirk!

Can't sign this tbh. Anyone but the Netherlands (or Italy) sounds better for me. At least I know that this won't happen this time but you still have to "fear the worst case" ;)

Its far too early to make a call. The wc begins with the Knock-out round. The group stage is nice to watch but useless.

Anyway: the past three world cups were won by the teams which had the hardest groups ( on the paper by Fifa ranking), so, i think, its a good moment to congratulate the swiss to their very first World cup win.

Put a five pound free bet on 7-1 @ 200/1, cashed out for £218, pretty sure I was the only Englishman agonising over the last 10 minutes.

Also, we're gonna win the World Cup, maybe.

So are Belgium/England going to try to win or lose, given that the runners up get an easier route?

If we lose, we meant it - yeah.

Ever since Germany lost to Mexico I've been hoping for 2nd place.

However, BBC made a good point yesterday that its also all about momentum - if we lose to Belgium, could that knock out momentum/confidence? Is it worth it?

I have to agree - tbh I'm pretty sure we'd lose to Mexico anyway, they're my dark horses this year - but if you ever win the world cup, you don't do it by only playing teams like Japan & Switzerland, you have to knock out the other top teams too - let's do it (easy as that)

I think we've just got to play our game, keep winning games and let the pieces fall where they may. I don't think you can adopt of mindset of trying to manipulate the bracket to get 'easier' games. We're going to have to play the big boys sooner or later, let's build up a wall of confidence by getting big results early. That's my thought process

If we wanna come 2nd don't need to lose, just draw and get 2 more bookings. Do a John Terry if need be. Make sure it's not to anyone good though.

I was actually flying during the game, but the press and fan reaction has been astonishing to behold.

I'll be shocked if they don't win it now. What a tactical and motivational masterclass Southgate has turned out to be.

Is Kane now better than Messi?

People just enjoying ourselves in these two games I think chaps, and genuine enjoyment isn't something I've felt for ages with England at a tournament. We all know tougher tests are to come. Lighten up?

Don't bite mate, Wales are still struggling to believe that they didn't qualify because they can qualify for Europe but ultimately aren't good enough for the WC.

Scotland are just............. Well, doing their normal thing of watching us on TV

In previous WC's we'd have probably drawn with Tunisia and gtound out a dull 2-0 win v Panama. Our football would have been stale, outdated and boring as fuck with most players looking scared to play properly.

That's why we're all buzzing to see things being completely different this time. Might not be world beaters but we're bloody good to watch and are giving this a proper go, and the players look like they are enjoying themselves.

Btw good to see ex-FGR striker Allan Russell making a big contribution to the set-up as striker coach, apparently he's been behind some of the free-kick routines.

I reckon we will beat Japan and Senegal, but struggle against Colombia. So it depends on the final results of group H. I'm hoping Colombia don't win their final game and Japan avoid a loss to Poland purely to rule out meeting them.

We will bag a draw against Belgium on Thursday so hopefully finish top if we can avoid cards.

My hopes going into the tournament were a quarter final appearance and that hasn't changed with a win against a side of Panama's level.

Whatever happens now, though, at least we can say we battered a side with decent, attacking football this time around. No matter who we face, we don't usually get to look back at a major tournament with a positive memory like that.
