I can't speak for Lee, but I would say that more active players leads to a better game. Does that mean that some teams have gained an advantage? Maybe, although no one has any idea whether that will actually be the case, given that the seedings were fairly arbitrary and may not be a reflection of how useful a player might be. And if a team does gain a slight advantage, it's not like that's going to ruin the game.

The seeding was to stop a 'super team' from forming and split who, in my opinion, are the ones who normally shine in these sort of games so that every team has got a couple of experienced members. Looking at the teams, that has worked well and is still the case. I thought this may cause a little bit of controversy but I'm still of the opinion that it benefits the game as a whole to have more active players.

I may be making one more transfer today. I've messaged the member to get his position because he's not been around very much. Once that's done if they decide to step aside, that will be all of the transfers done.

For this round, you'll have to predict every score in the round of 16, quarters, semis and final.

The round will go on beyond the 4th game week as we will be seeing how your quarter, semi and final predictions pan out. The points will be added onto the overall table at the end of the game (although I'll be live scoring it as usual).

Scoring
Round of 16: 1 point correct result, 3 points correct score.
Quarter finals: 1 point per correct team, 3 points correct result, 5 points correct score.
Semi final: 2 points per correct team, 4 points correct result, 8 points correct score.
Final: 3 points per correct team, 5 points correct result, 10 points correct score.

(note: You can get a correct result even if you only have one team present in your prediction. If you have France and predict France to win against incorrect opposition, that counts as a correct result. Just like if you predict Hungary to lose against incorrect opposition, that is fine as well. However, correct scores can only be achieved if both teams are present.)

Advantages

1) Team Olsen - 4 edits
2) Team Zagorakis - 3 edits
3) Team Casillas - 2 edits

The three teams above will be able to make edits between the end of the round of 16 and the beginning of the quarter finals. They are allowed to edit teams and scorelines for the quarter, semi and final matches.

If you change France 2-1 England to France 3-0 Iceland, that counts as 2 edits, as you are changing England to Iceland and the scoreline from 2-1 to 3-0.

They are not allowed to edit any matches that have already happened.
Any edits that are not used before the quarter finals begin will be scrapped.

Overall table points
As this is a long round and a real test of your predicting abilities over time, double points will be on offer here for the overall table

2nd) 8 points
3rd) 6 points
4th) 4 points
5th) 2 points
6th) 0 points

It seems a little bizarre to me that completely inactive players have effectively been of more use to teams than players who are just active enough to not be replaced, because the former have been replaced by some of the forum game greats. How is that encouraging activity by rewarding teams with completely inactive players, and penalizing the teams with activity across the whole team?

I'm fine with people joining midway through in terms of making the game more active. I also agree that if people are completely inactive it's better to just boot them out. However, the new players will make the game more active regardless of which team they are on, there doesn't have to be the exact same number of people on each team. That's why I think everybody should have got the chance to bid on the new players. If that leaves 7 on some teams and 5 on other teams so be it. That makes it tactical rather than this FARCE and if a new player makes the difference then at least any team without them can look at themselves and say "we should have bid more for them".

In fairness, it's probably the least beneficial advantage thus far.

Should be an interesting round, especially with the additional incentive of double points.

Well it took until week 4/6 for there to be a farce in a forum game so that's a victory in itself really.

But yeah, I'm sticking with my decision. I understand your argument but I don't agree with all of it. Completely inactive players have not been of more use as they've not been around for the past 3 game weeks. And there's no currency in this game to bid on new players with. I'm happy with the way the teams look. It'll add a new voice to some teams which was needed. Gullit and Klinsmann are settled and don't need any tampering with.

We're not going to agree on this so let's just continue with the game. I don't want it descending into arguments.

It's nothing to do with the reasons given in the challenge imo. I think it's an artificial way of making the latter stages more exciting for the teams who are lagging behind. The kind of tinpot thing I would expect on ITV's Family Fortunes not 1FF'S EURO 2016 GRANDSTAND.

I’m not going to be silenced either though, if I’ve got some thoughts on the game I’m going to give them as this is a forum after all. I gave a clear idea of currency that could be used in an auction on the previous page which was overall leaderboard points.
