Any reason why a large number of our squad aren't on the transfer list? What we waiting for?
Let's not leave things to the 31st.

Hope you are not being sarcastic? Not like you at all.
But I would like something positive to happen. Still haven't forgiven them for the derby performance.

Koeman has turned it around in fairness. I know a few Everton fan have delusions of top four but they're miles away from the big 6 on & off the field. 7th is their version of winning the league and Koeman is achieving that.

Thought the headline grabbing introductions of the two youngsters yesterday was interesting in the context of the stick Koeman got down here from Saints fan about never really giving their youngsters a look.

At some point even Koeman needed to accept something needed to be done given their utterly dire form prior to Christmas. It's possible the introduction of players like Davies was in large part due to desperation to try anything different than a change of general attitude towards youngsters. Do you think it would have happened had results been going well?

Everton fans were calling for Koeman to give youth a chance for weeks before he actually did, due to Barry turning complete shite and Gueye getting a suspension/now at the AFCON.

Once Schneiderlin gets going and Gueye returns Davies will be put on the bench, which is a shame as he has looked a talent in his first few appearances.

What young players did Koeman hold back at Southampton?

He didn't necessarily hold them back, but he didn't give them any opportunities either. Harrison Reed and Sam Gallagher were breaking into the first team when Poch was here and then got frozen out by Koeman.

It's mentioned by some that Koeman was also tarring the reputation of our academy and a number of players/parents were growing unhappy. Youngsters don't join us because we're Southampton, they come here because we're a club who hand chances to the young players, which was false under Koeman.

Meanwhile, Puel for all his faults has brought Sam McQueen and Josh Sims in, who have looked good. (Koeman admitted he wasn't even aware of the latter) While, he has also given minutes to Jack Stephens and Harry Lewis in his first few months at the club.

BUT, Koeman was very successful here, so no one complained too much. It was just one of his few faults.

So this makes you think that Tom Davies will soon be frozen out?

Koeman is doing an ok job in regards to the kids imo but his hand was forced in that area.

Some clearout has started. Good to see Besic back in training.

Could do with another signing

Doing well now isn't he. I like Koeman. He's not without his faults which are mentioned above.

Still takes a certain amount of balls to play Davies and Lookman over more senior pros. This is why managers should be given time. He gave Martinez's bunch half a season to prove their worth and many showed they weren't up to it. There is still a sizeable amount of work to do in the summer window but Schneiderlin and Lookman was a very good start. Priorities in the summer will be to invest in some good CBs to compete with Williams and Holgate, a lb rival for Baines, a good alternative to Lukaku and some talent on the wings as Lennon and Mirallas don't do it enough.

Good start though. They're get 7th and maybe even 6th if one of the top 6 hits a bad run

I don't see Everton challenging for 4th this or next season. That's no knock on them, since it's consistently assumed it's easier to challenge and make that leap from upper midtable to CL contenders han what's proven to be the reality.

There are 6 teams each year that have bigger resources than the rest. Leicester were evidently a wonderful one season freak to that monopoly, and as long as 4 of those 6 teams perform to their general standard the rest of the teams can only whistle for a chance of that 4th spot.

Agreed. Once he settles in Koeman will have Everton back to where they were before Moyes left, finishing 6th-8th most seasons with an occasional challenge for 5th. That might seem like there has been no improvement but overall it's more difficult to hit those spots now than it was then.

I said it in January and I'll say it again now:

Why aren't we buying anyone? Get a move on or we will end up with nothing!

They have hundreds of millions to spend. Or so its been claimed over the last 12-18 months with nothing in the way of proof.

Everton need to raise the level of player they sign in order to claw a bit of the gap to the top 6, but it's going to be made much harder if Lukaku and Barkley leave.

We know they are leaving so why aren't we lining up replacements? If we wait until they are sold for £80M+ then we will be held to ransom for replacements. So get a move on.

Because your owners are jokers? It seems the most logical explanation so far.

£30 million for Pickford. Hmm not sure about this one, though we do need a keeper.

It'll be a good signing, and that's the going rate but over the course of the years you'll potentially have him it makes sense.

With Joe Harts fall from grace I can only assume Pickford has taken over the mantle of Emperors New Clothes.

He started the preceding season behind Vito Mannone and, following injury, first choice keeper at the team with the 3rd worst defensive record in the league.

He had an absolutely shocking error at the start of the season which cost his team two points, if I remember correctly.

It's a terrible signing, for an outrageously inflated fee.

I said the exact same about John Stones and look forward to being equally vindicated in the season to come.

I saw he managed a nomination for the YPOTY - which implies someone like Garth Crooks is on the panel deciding nominees.

Indeed, to suggest alternatives, Heaton and Begovic are far better players who could have been purchased for significantly less.
