Wembley availability is going to be messed with anyway due to the whole Spurs thing. And if Chelsea then use it following that it's going to be like that for a few years.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to add more teams to the playoffs, but I'd rather see a chance of 3 up 3 down and get the team finishing 22nd in League two involved.

Based on this season I'd like to see this if the powers that be must extend the playoffs:

1st round (over two legs)
Dover v Forest Green
Aldershot v Dag & Red

2nd round (over two legs)
Lowest placed team v Newport
Highest placed team v Tranmere

Funny to remember promotion from this League used to be decided by a vote of chairmen, including those who would potentially be relegated. As a kid, I remember certain clubs were always at the bottom of division four as they had no incentive to improve.

I've said for a long while that I'd be in favour of a Scottish style system where the 2nd placed team for instance plays the team 2nd or 3rd bottom in League Two for a relegation play-off.

Not sure whether you'd be able to have three up and three down in that instance, though.

Even though we are finally out of this division (hopefully for some considerable time), as mentioned before I think it's only fair if there were at least 2 or 3 automatic places up for grabs. One spot is just too little.

So next year 2nd and 3rd will get a bye through to a SINGLE LEG semi-final where they will both be at home to the victor of 4th vs 7th and 5th vs 6th, with the the 4th and 5th placed sides both taking home advantage in a single leg qualifying play-off for the semi-final.

I think it's pretty decent in fairness, not just saying that cos we'll probably finish 7th next season.

More advantage to 2nd and 3rd teams which it should do, as well as a one off home leg that will mean one less game to play before the final.
Can't really have too much complaints about 7th getting promoted when it can already happen in League 2.

It's different and fresh but masks the fact we need 3 up 3 down. 2nd to 7th playing for one spot is a joke. BT will like this a lot.

Why not just have 1-12th in promotion playoffs and 13-24th in relegation playoffs?

I think (unless I've confused myself - possible), that this would work. You would get either 3 down from League Two, or at the very least 2. Yes, there'd less play-off places opened up for the National, but I can't make it work any other way (apart from having the 6 team format) that allows for 2 automatic promotion spaces.

from the draft of the new regulations:

The clubs finishing in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th, 6th & 7th positions shall take part in the Play-Off Matches. The Play-Off Matches shall be played so that in each Step 2 division there is a qualifying round, semi-finals and a promotion final with all ties being played over a single leg. The winner of the promotional final will be promoted. If a Club is not eligible to enter the Competition then it shall not take part in any Competition matches. In that event such Club shall not be replaced and the Competition structure and draw shall be adjusted as necessary by the Competition on the basis of the remaining Clubs’ final league positions

Part of me likes this idea, it gives everyone something a bit more too aim for and offers an advantage to the teams in 2nd and 3rd.

But what the hell would've happened if say a club like North Ferriby finished 7th and/or 8th with their grounds nowhere near league standard - Then you have a team finishing say 9th possibly in with a shout of promotion. Crazy!

Football League forbids all three teams from coming up due to their plastic pitches.

Leyton Orient and Hartlepool in 9th and 10th in the league enter the playoffs by default................

I reckon we should do away with the league completely. Instead, we'll have a playoff that lasts the full season where everybody plays everyone else, home and away, and we award points for wins (maybe a lesser amount for draws). At the end of the playoffs the team with the most points goes up, possibly second too. The teams with the least get relegated.

Anyone think this might work?

That wouldn't work under your format the National League will run out of clubs having had one more club promoted from it to the Football League than relegated to it from there each year!
