Absolutely agreed. He's played him at centre back a few times but he simply isn't one.

McKenzie was the obvious pick once Davies couldn't make it, which incidentally was a big loss for us. In addition, I'm puzzled why Clarke didn't play.

Also no idea why we reverted to the diamond which, at least recently, has led to us being completely ineffectual just as we were tonight.

To the Chelsea fan, how do you work that out then? We've been better away than at home this season - we didn't beat Sunderland because of the VP pitch, we beat them because they simply weren't good enough and didn't appear up for the game.

What was strangely missing tonight was the tempo with which we've played in all the cup ties so far. We allowed Reading to get on top early and dominate us, which I've not really seen in any of our cup ties (against higher league opposition) since the cup final no-show.
