Stupid competition anyway. BSM Trophy is where it’s at obviously.

Some good from us particularly for 20 minutes or so after we were level. Paton had a nice free kick that was inches from putting us in front and then they scored from a decent move. Will be honest I didn’t get a good look at their penalty decision as a) it was down the other end and b) I was checking flash scores on my phone at the time but that killed the game off at that point.

Avoided a potential banana skin at Worthing ,a well taken goal from Jordan Slew ,but we sat back again shortly after that and invited them onto us ,we were lucky to go into the break 1-0 up ,second half continued on the same form with Stuart Moore making some good saves to keep
them at bay ,Ryan's header was a good sight to see near the end ,all in all a good day well worth the 3hrs still to go to get home

Just find higher teams overly exuberantly celebrating a victory against a league 2 reserve team odd.

They were doing oles towards the end, when for 70 minutes they'd made really hard work of it. When we've played lower league teams before and scored, I don't even get out of my seat. It's the absolute bare minimum to score against a team lower down than you. I've always found Barnsley a bit odd anyway...today rubber stamped that.

We've got a bit of an injury crisis which bodes well for our league opponents. Our 3 first choice midfielders are out at the moment, which leaves us with Sang (who has been playing at wing back for most of his Vale career) and Lowe, who is a great professional but has the pace of an asthmatic snail with some heavy shopping.

The noticeable drop off in performance often coincides with him coming on the pitch.

Weird club Barnsley. Their fans were celebrating like they'd won the thing. Their first team just beat essentially a reserve team from the league below. No sleep lost from me, we're not going to win it and it's turned into a shite competition that gets in the way of what really matters.

Special mention to the ref who was spectacularly awful and couldn't wait to give them a pen. It wasn't.

Never mind you can concentrate on the champions league now.

What I find odd is the common trend for fans of a team that loses or doesn't win to criticise the opposition team and/or fans for over celebrating the result. You see similar comments all the time about how they celebrated like they had won the league or cup competition.

We received such comment from a clearly disappointed and frustrated Chesterfield fan when we twice came from behind a scored an injury time equaliser earlier this season. We seemingly celebrated like we had won the game and the Spireite thought it was strangely hilarious.

Let's not try and take the enjoyment and emotion out of football matches or it will end up sanitised like the NFL (No Fun League).

Well we took it seriously playing the same starting 11 as at Bradford, unfortunately both full backs went off injured so not sure what impact that will have going forward, luckily we have 2 other players in both positions to call on

Edit to add: 0-2 now. Our last three against AFCW currently total 0-6 (1-0, 3-0, 0-2). After years of dominating the game, AFC are clearly on a roll in these games…we can’t even seem to score against them.

We really haven’t showed up in any of the last 3 AFC games, regardless of the team selection today.

We’re now doing what AFCW did for the first 10 years or so and bottling every game against them.

No shot on target in 90 minutes at home to your biggest rivals, really poor. 18 shots for AFC vs 2 for us, shocking.

First time AFC have won at Stadium:MK in over a decade and only the second time ever (other being EFL Trophy). No doubt they will probably get their first ever league win here in January at this rate.

Not sure where that comment is from, we’ve never claimed to be the Man City of anything, a Harrogate fan said it but we don’t even play the same style.

We are the Port Vale of League Two regardless of our budget and that budget doesn’t guarantee anything, 15 sides will probably believe they can go up this season.

I agree with much of what LV usually says but not sure I do on the celebrating, you travel hundreds of miles for an away day enjoy it, if you win why not? That’s what we get up on a Saturday for as football fans isn’t it? We certainly would had we beaten a National League side away from home.

In terms of the cup as said we want promotion, we’ve had a lot of injuries and have some niggles so with our hopes for the season purely about promotion it wasn’t really a priority, DM post match interview where he talks about happy with the performance, plenty to learn and that said all that needed to be said.

We went out to a top league one side no one will bat an eyelid at the result, it wasn’t an embarrassing non league exit as in the past so doesn’t really matter too much.

Last year we played 13 cup games and we got relegated, lost our best player in one game and didn’t really benefit us at all which probably aids the Vale view on it this season.

I agree. But the situation that you had there was worth celebrating. You were playing a strong team in your own division and scored a late equaliser. I think that's worth an exuberant celebration. Beating a lower league reserve team and struggling to do so for 2/3 of the match would make me feel a bit embarrassed more than anything.
