was they full strength for those two games against Liverpool?

Honestly couldn't tell you mate.

Probably, at a guess as it was a semi-final. Same as The FA Cup, guarantee PL teams start fielding stronger sides come the quarter/semi final.

Both teams were which is not surprising but not entirely fair either.

A disgrace? Bit harsh

I know you had an off day, admitably a bad one, but you're still having a great season. Would happily swap our season for yours.

can't be starting 2 academy players in a difficult fa cup game though mark

would have been ok if it was 2 with the 1st team but it was 2 with a young reserves team

That wasn't the point he was making. He's right, his team selection today was a disgrace.

He's hardly a disgrace.

He's just done what a majority of managers have done, not only this weekend but in the third round too.

Leeds fans are only whinging because it's an embarrassing defeat, they won't give a tinkers if they are promoted at the end of the season and will probably be praising the decision.

We won away at Anfield with a goalkeeper (Harry Burgoyne) who had made 3 league appearances in his career, and a midfielder (Conor Ronan) who has play 4 games in his professional career. I really don't see the problem of playing a few kids, how else will they improve if they dont play?

So the FA Cup is essentially just a competition for the Premier League and Championship sides to field their kids? How about you put faith in your youngsters and play them in the league and stop discrediting what is a wonderful competition.

.. what?

So it's ok to play kids in the League but not the cup? Sorry I have no idea what your point is here. We (Wolves) play our kids because we feel they are good enough, we play kids in the league and the cup. Can't comment on what Leeds do, but they're sitting 3rd/4th in the League with a good chance of going up, can understand why they put kids of for Sutton away.

Also you're talking to the wrong person if you moan about playing kids in the league/cups. Wolves probably play more academy products than any other professional club in the country. The main bulk of our team is kids through our youth system.

The onus is on clubs to bring through their youngsters throughout the season, not just in cup competitions. What good did today do for the confidence of those Leeds youngsters? Or any of those kids playing in the Checkatrade Trophy this season? Blooding one or two youngsters while surrounded by first-team players is fine but making wholesale changes is just making a mockery of the competition.

Tell you what though. If prem and top half championship teams can't be arsed with it, let the non league sides get the glory and the cash.
I'm fine with that.

Leeds so called reserve team still has more quality than the Sutton team they played (no disrespect to them). It is a similar team to what beat Cambridge away who are a league above Sutton.

I really can't see where you are going with this.

It's not as easy as that though, is it? If football was played on paper then we all might as well give up because there would never be any shocks. Playing a consistent XI breeds familiarity and making wholesale changes to your side can make even the most talented youngsters look like strangers when they're put on the pitch. Players familiarise themselves with their own roles as they go on during the season and build partnerships. Throwing 9/10/11 random players together for the first time can only end badly. And I'll repeat my point, what will those Leeds youngsters have learned from today? If anything, it will have had a detrimental effect to their development.

If you can't see where I'm going with this then maybe you should just give up. I've made my point pretty clearly = PREMIER LEAGUE AND CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS ARE TAKING THE PISS OUT OF THE FA CUP. There you go, clear enough?

Your final statement is insulting to a majority of Championship and Premier League sides, so not clear enough.

Are Wolves taking the piss because we won away at Stoke (their first team may I add) and Liverpool. You insult any player who played their bollocks off at Anfield yesterday as taking the piss out of the competition?

Maybe you should cut the whole generalisation BS. Maybe Leeds played a few too many kids and it cost them today. If I was a Leeds fan I'd take going out of the FA Cup and winning on Tuesday in the league because the league is a perogative to them, and why shouldnt it be? You seem to have a big chip on your shoulder over the fact that they priotitize the League over the Cup.

Also stop generalising every club in the top two leagues. It is an argument that makes zero sense when you start doing that.

Alright, I'll stop generalising and look at the facts instead;

Leeds - made 10 changes and lost 1-0 to Sutton
Southampton - made 10 changes and lost 5-0 to Arsenal
Brighton - made 9 changes and lost 3-1 to Lincoln
Liverpool - made 9 changes and lost 2-1 to Wolves
Newcastle - made 9 changes and lost 3-0 to Oxford
Tottenham - made 9 changes and won 4-3 against Wycombe
Watford - made 7 changes and lost 1-0 against Millwall

Hardly a one off, is it? And that is just this round...

Why would I have a chip on my shoulder? I'm a Lincoln fan, I'm absolutely delighted. Thanks to Chris Hughton for playing a weakened side because it gave us one of the biggest results in our history. But if you don't think that (some/a lot/most/delete as applicable) Premier League and Championship sides aren't taking the FA Cup seriously then I don't really know what you what you've been watching this weekend. You clearly don't see that as a problem, whereas I do.

Premier league teams playing weakened sides is nothing new, we even did it 10 odd years ago.

It just so happens that we've had a few upsets this weekend. Upsets, the thing fans want every single year and now we're getting them it's to the detriment of the competition.

Football fans eh?

We made 6 changes to the 3-1 defeat to Norwich and went to Liverpool and won. Liverpool may have made 9 changes but they had players in their starting 11 who cost more than our entire starting 11.

The 3 Championship teams you mentioned, without meaning to sound disrespectful to the opposition have bigger fish to fry than FA cup opposition. I could completely understand why they put weakened sides out as the League is a priority and rightly so, they would be stupid to put a full strengh lineup out against Sutton and play kids in their next league fixture.

Still these weakened sides you speak of should still be able to handle non league sides and such.

Look at the Tottenham side for example yesterday, they played a 'reserve team' as you put it, lets have a look:

n9bmdzz.jpg

That weak team as you put it, is full of internationals, or well established prem/european players, with a couple of kids mixed in. I really don't see how such a powerful lineup is considered disrespectful to the FA Cup.

Got our usual 4-0 drubbing at the library of dreams. Two key moments, not holding out until half time and that Perkins chance when it was 1-0. At least I won a bit of cash on United to win by 4 or more goals.

Just seen the Leeds result, Jeez, not the greatest of FA Cup weeks for the Championship sides, Newcastle, Brighton, Leeds all on the end of fairly humiliating "shocks" only really Wolfs on the right end of a shock, and Fulham I guess you could say.

Despite all the weakened team etc and us being a distant memory in the competition I still look forward to the draw tomorrow.

I expected Fulham to beat Hull really (not 4-1 mind)

Well done to those who have got through - good luck in the round.
