FA Cup Round 2

So, for those of us still involved in this it's time for a break from league duties for something potentially bloody exciting - an opportunity to visit Barnsley in round 3. Hurrah!

Anyway, 10 of our lot went out in the last round so it's up to the final 14 to maintain the honour of League One:

AFC Fylde v Wigan (Fri)
Bradford v Plymouth
Fleetwood v Hereford FC
Gillingham v Carlisle
MK Dons v Maidstone United
Shrewsbury Town v Morecambe
AFC Wimbledon v Charlton (Sun)
Blackburn v Crewe (Sun)
Doncaster v Scunthorpe (Sun)
Woking v Peterborough (Sun)
Slough v Rochdale (Mon)

Couple of lovely trips to plucky non-leaguers for Wigan, Posh and Rochdale, but other than that most of us seem to have lucked out with a home tie. Those that haven't done have instead got a cracking same league tie to look forward to. Looking at it most SHOULD progress, and in the League One ties I think it's anyone's guess...

We've never played Woking and it's a shame it's on Sunday. I wouldn't mind if it's actually live on the tellybox but moving games to a Sunday for the BBC's extended highlights pish so they can fawn over the potential of Woking beating us is quite frankly absurd.

Anyway, Monday night. If we treat Slough with respect and match them for endeavour, our extra fitness and organisation should mean a win. If we treat them lightly they will join the interminable list of non-league clubs who've knocked us out of the cup...

I think all the clubs playing lower opposition will get through although there could be a couple of replays. Scunthorpe should beat Doncaster but it's too close to call on the other two all L1 matches. Plymouth's form has picked up recently and they beat Bradford earlier in the month. We're hit and miss but Charlton have quite a few injuries.

I'll be at Plymouth, looking forward to that one! Fleetwood on the friday night before Xmas can go sod itself though. Could be a busy month of travelling for us if we draw on saturday!

Charlton at AFC Wimbledon. A match that should be winnable for Addicks, but as anybody who has followed the club for any length of time will know, that's no yardstick by any means.

I would like to see us in Round 3, hopefully with a plum draw, but then fans will start to have jitters about how being in the FA Cup in the second week of January might affect our lofty position in the play off places.

You know..... I'm daft enough to believe that a professional football club should be giving their best effort to try to win every match they play. That the next match is the most important one regardless of its status. Isn't that what being 'professional' should mean..? Naive of me I know, but I can't help myself.

We're at home to Pompey the week after the cup tie. That'll be tough. Should we surrender the match on Saturday just to get the FA Cup out of the way, or would a good win against Wimbledon be the catalyst for a good run in the league?

Sadly with Charlton, nobody ever knows what to expect.

It's not the tie of the round. You are making plenty of changes as you just said.

Slough v Rochdale and Woking v Peterborough are better. Only reason BBC picked it was because its close to Salford. That's why they put on Warrington a few years back and Hyde in the last round

Just to let you all know, the massive clash between us and Plymouth (2 of the biggest clubs left in the cup) will be shown on several channels world wide (or one in Denmark or somewhere) so there will be online streams available (probably). I know this will massively affect all the other 3pm kickoffs, but you don't want to miss us play like Man City and spank them 0-0 or 1-0. You're welcome.

I don't think that Wigan will be putting a weak team out. Paul Cook said in his pre-Rotherham press conference that he's hoping to have Nick Powell back for the game and has previously said that we will be taking the competition seriously and want to be in the third round draw.

As for not being the tie of the round, it is obviously the stand out tie!
It's a Lancashire derby first of all, with the highest ranked team in the competition against a team that has never featured in the second round before! And is also winners of 4 years ago against a non-league side.

Please explain how the two mentioned above (especially Peterborough v Woking) have more appeal?

Seeing as we have about 40 of them a season in this league you can hardly blame fans in here for not being overly excited about that aspect....

And yes, I'm counting the Greater Manchester clubs in the same bracket, it's close enough.

I do agree that Fylde v Wigan is probably the stand out though, although Slough v Dale is a good one for different reasons. Woking v Posh does NOT get the juices flowing at all.

Slough are a more traditional club than fucking AFC Fylde. I don't have any interest in somebody's play thing. If you were playing Slough or Oxford City then that would elevate the tie a little more

Yeah I can't be doing with blatant tinpot teams like Forest Green, Fylde and Crawley doing well. Rather see traditional non league clubs like Altrincham, Woking, Dover and Sutton United come up.

Have to agree.

I'd much rather see a Tranmere or Stockport back in the football league, over a Fleetwood or Crawley.

Or even BPA, Halifax or Guiseley, over a Salford or Flyde who are the new play things.
