Wonder if Eastleigh fans see a difference between themselves and Whitehawk?...

Sad year that they are the non-league teams in R3 representing non-league. Along with Salford who are also there due to massive amounts of off-the-field input.

The non-league ideal - you can do it if your chairman puts in enough cash! People might even like you if you have some famous ex-pro's to put a face on it...

Absolutely gutted, fully deserved the draw and should have won it really with a great chance a few seconds before they stole it at the end.

Oh well, we can concentrate on the FA trophy now:ffs:

Eastleigh, Salford, Whitehawk...bleugh

The media lap up these 'minnows' doing well, failing to mention how hugely bankrolled they are. I don't know the respective financial clout between Whitehawk and Dagenham but I doubt the divide is that big.

I would fancy Whitehawk have a bigger budget than Dagenham.

The only one that doesn't is Steve Claridge. On the first round highlights show he called all of the bankrolled clubs out on it, shutting down the fairytale angle Manish was going for.

I'm not a fan of his but it was brilliant.

What a way to lose! So gutting. Nicky Clee had a great chance near the end as well...

Absolutely brilliant chance. Must have had the freedom of the left wing, made a fool of Briggs and should have buried it. We definitely got away with it today, very lucky to win and would have no doubt lost the replay too.

We controlled the game for the opening half an hour but, other than that, very poor. Good following from Altrincham.

Excellent. It's still an achievement for any non league club to get to the third round of the cup but the whole "team of binmen, barmen and postmen" angle that gets trotted out regardless of the reality gets on my nerves.

Agreed. What I don't get is why some of the 'experts' on the BBC panel still think that being a conference side automatically means they are a part-time club, therefore they must only train twice a week, right?

If they started to have intelligent discussions about finances it might force them to push those views higher up the pyramid to the loss making machines that are almost all Championship and Premiership clubs coming in to the 3rd round... clubs that lose more money in a month than teams get put out of business for.

Is he still involved in Salisbury?

One of the rare media types that actually has a knowledge of non-league besides the fact it exists and what they can google 5 mins before going on air.

Edit: No particular love for him, but I don't actively dislike him either. Which is more than I can say for abut 80% of pundits these days.

I feel confident that I dislike him enough for both of us. Can't stand the bastard.

As far as I'm aware he's still manager of the phoenix team, but not sure of the extent of his involvement behind the scenes.

You won the game today, tomorrow you might win the lottery MUFC or Arsenal away ?

That Harriott for Colchester looks a real player.

He is on loan from Charlton I think?

On Whitehawk Steve Claridge pretty much said they probably had more experienced players than D&R so really its no surprise.

Due to the nature of the non-league sides progressing to round 3, I'd hope they all have rubbish ties than won't stand a chance of getting televised. Carlisle v Eastleigh (and if they progress) Northampton v Salford and Doncaster v Whitehawk would do for me.

You are talking about the same Steve Claridge who was once manager of a bankrolled Weymouth FC, who then went under, and is now manager of a bankrolled Salisbury FC playing in the Wessex league (step 9) and are romping it. Nah he doesn't like bankrolled clubs does he, unless he's at the helm of them of course... The bloke knows bugger all about non league football. Come to think of it, he knows bugger all about FL football either.

This might be the most accurate thing you've ever written on here.
But it still doesn't detract from the fact that Eastleigh are an unlovable bankrolled club and are hardly some plucky little non-league club bravely making it to round 3 of the cup.

There are a few big differences between Eastleigh & Whitehawk:-
1) We had been operating one level below the Conf Prem for the last 10 years, from memory finishing in the top 10 in all bar one of those seasons.
2) We have been growing our fan base - they have not
3) We have been steadily building up our stadium - they have made a few improvements but nothing like what we have done to ours
4) We have a guy in charge that is passionate about the club and the local area - they have 2 guys who are doing the best they can, but it wont be enough.
5) The Wealdstone raider gained his fame whilst ridiculing Whitehawks ground and fans - No one (apart from jealous failed ex-FL clubs) takes the piss out of us for being tinpot.
6) In less than 5 yrs time we will be in the football league and still going strong with a further increased fan base - they will still be in the Conf South

I've nothing against Whitehawk as a club, they are doing what they are doing & are doing it reasonably well on the pitch, but i'm not sure they have what it takes off the pitch and i don't see their fan base growing much at all. Maybe if Brighton Hove Albion get to the Premier League, they might get some fall out from that start going to watch them instead, as fans the B&HFC fans get priced out of things at the Amex.

What you're saying is as true as it goes (although it's no certainty that you will make the Football League in the next few years) and Whitehawk are basically a jumped-up county league side. However, being better than Whitehawk doesn't make you good.

And your ground is a cobbled-together mishmash of mismatching stands and terraces; better than Whitehawk's temporary uncovered stands but still not good.

I remember a Stockport fan describing our ground as "a constellation of sheds" once.

Your ground is far better than Eastleigh's. It's a proper ground with terraces and all that. Anyway, Stockport with their uncovered seats behind one end, don't have that much to shout about.
