Fifa 18 will have Story Mode Improvements - You can edit how Alex Hunter looks / You can change his name from Alex Hunter to something else.

Yep they seem to have fixed the game somewhat. Its no longer impossible to cross a ball, or get the ball from the Computer when playing against them.

It is still played at 100 mph though. Football is just not played at the pace at which fifa games are

You can change the pace of the game in settings. By default its "normal" you can go slower or faster.

Would you expect it to be the same given one is played over 90 minutes and the other is played over 8.

I don't place much stock in the demo versions of the game as they always lower the pace a little bit before ramping it back up in the final version of the game.

I'm not liking the new set piece system at all, though.

I think the new penalties are great. The old style was so boring, there are way more variables on this. I reckon a shoot out will be good fun against pals instead of tedious. Haven't figured the others out yet really. Long FKs are weird, can't even see where I'm hoffing it.

Absolutely not, but you shouldn't have players who barely tire either. From what I've seen pro evo is getting the balance better this year. Still prefer FIFA as a demo overall though

Not sure what to make of the journey. Reckon it could get boring quite quickly

I don't usually buy Fifa in consecutive years and I haven't turned my PS4 on in 2016 but I'm tempted to get it just cos it's gonna be the only time when Leicester are any good in it!

I can't be arsed making a PES 2017 thread, so I'm using this one to talk about it, but... anybody else got it yet?

Got it on Wednesday and very pleased with what I've seen so far. Reviews are basically saying that while last year was finally a case of bringing PES back to its best, this year is a case of making it better than it was at it's best. High praise indeed, but from what I've seen so far I can't see any reason to not believe that. It's really fucking good.

Also, on another topic having just gone through this thread... oh... those poor fools who don't think that FIFA scripting is real  It's painful to think that such a thing exists. EA must be laughing their asses off. Literally all they've done is taken the old traffic light signal that used to be there on games and hid it and now people think "oh yeah, that's ME that scored that last second winner after getting pummeled all game! Wow, I'm good at this. Thanks EA, TAKE MY MONEY!".

This is a picture of FIFA 06. First, take a moment to remember that yes, football games used to look like that and we all thought it looked amazing. But then direct your eyes to the top left, where the scores are. You see those bars next to the scores, to the very left and very right? Traffic light type things? When only the yellow was lit, that'd mean your team will do shit. When all three are lit, it meant that your players would basically do all of the work for you. It was a momentum system, and it never left FIFA, they simply removed the visual cue. Only now it can do what it wants and nobody will be able to tell what it's doing. Does the game need a last second goal? Well shit, let's give one team a late goal! One side drops to one light, the other gets 3... and oh, late goal!

You rock, player who scored! Buy next years game!

Momentum is real though...

I bought PES today, it's alright - I've played one match in MyClub and already have Dani Alves and Pogba (plus Ibra on a 5 match loan) which is a bit weird (although arguably admirable because Ultimate Team is a chore if you have neither bags of time or money). It does some stuff better than FIFA - less weird physics engine (i.e. less times you yell 'oh fuck off, as if' as the screen) and little player positioning refinements seem better than FIFA (i.e. wide players are actually useful) but it's just lacking something - not arsed about the licensing or the WWE 2K standard of commentating really but FIFA does such a good job of the little things - the pros/cons of FIFA and PES still sees FIFA on top for me - and I will probably sell PES once FIFA is released.

Inconclusive I'm afraid.

Pretty sure that's just a fancy design.

Played FIFA 17 demo. Thought it was pretty shit, to be fair. It's on pre-order, mind, and I'll wait until release before I categorically decide it's crap.

PES, on the other hand... MINT.

Nice, you get many freebies Steve? Got 4 all player packs, but I've only been on since last years edition. Wonder what the hardcore players get!

Opened my stuff. Had 1 gold packs and 2 all players packs. 1000 coins as a gift too.

Only half decent player I got was Allan, Napoli midfielder who is iirc 82 rated. So unless I get anyone else decent in my daily gifts I'm starting with a cheapo Serie A team.

Also keep every card you get rather than discarding the shite because you can use them in the squad builder thingy and trade up for rewards

Squad builder thingy?

They added a thing this year where you can use what cards you have to make teams to fit different tasks they give

So it could be 70 min rated. 90 Chen from at least 3 leagues for example

You trade in all those cards and get a reward for it. Usually a pack or something. But the challenges are separated into sections and doing all of those challenges can unlock other stuff like a special card you can only get via that. They showed a Giovinco card that's better than normal that you can get by completing the MLS challenges and won't be able to be transferred

Ah ok. Just a thought but are we better off opening the packs on wednesday when the TOTW 1 is announced on the off chance of getting an IF. Cos there aren't any for 17 yet are there.

I've been having great fun with PES 2017. Gameplay wise blows FIFA (16 and before) out of the water for me tbh. It's not frustating the fuck out of me and plays like football, not ice hockey.

Everything that isn't gameplay on FIFA is better mind, but for me gameplay is the most important thing.

I also got 4 all player packs, 1000 coins and a reward pack which I think I'll be getting daily - at least something like it. Planning to build a PL side first and I got Vorm and Vertonghen in the packs to help me start up!

Got a 5000 coin free gift, nothing out the packs I got.

Put together a decent cheap La Liga side of Barca, Real and Atletico players that I'll be able to sell for a decent wack when the game comes out.

If you haven't seen the other new stuff for FUT there's a weekend league thing that you play enough games to qualify and then you get 40 games over the weekend and you get bonus rewards depending what tier your results land you in. That happens every weekend.

Can't remember if you have to specifically go into that mode or your league games count to it or not, didn't play much FUT in the beta

Edit: worked it out. Got naff all decent. Joe chuffing Allan

I'll either go for a very cheap prem team or I'll build a turkish Super Lig team as I got a couple of players from that league. They always seem to be expensive though
