A few further observations:
- I was wrong about the full backs, getting them on standard attacking mentality is the way to go. Especially if you're like me and can't dribble 1v1 for shit so rely on passing moves. I think the problem was that in a narrower 4-2-3-1 the CAMs didn't offer the same protection as the wide midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 wide or 4-4-1-1.
- In squad battles you don't get penalised for going into extra time. I got as many points in a 6-2 aet win than I would after 90. Additionally, in squad battles the AI is reckless when it goes a goal down and is very quick to go all out attack leaving so many counter chances. A good way to rack up a high scoreline/ most points is to try and control the game when 1-0 up and wait for the AI to kamikaze.
- I won a game on ultimate difficulty but that was v a 76 rated team, That level is actually mental, the buffs the AI have are ridiculous, Danny Drinkwater comfortably outran Alejandro Gomez in a straight on 1v1 foot race and the bronze subs it brought on played like Ronaldo.
- Despite initial scepticism keepers aren't so bad, infact a higher rated keeper (Courtois, P.Schmeichel, Yashin etc.) are absolutely unbearably frustratingly good.
- So many people rely on pace abuse it's mental. I don't think it's really going to be a thing at higher levels, it's way too predictable and unlike Fifa15 etc with the high lobbed balls, defenders don't act like they're on crack, so it's easy enough to stop, although quick 1-2s with a Reus, Auba, Cuadrado in a 4-1-2-1 combination was frustrating.
- A balanced midfield really matters now. Tried to run a Bundesliga team with Goretzka and Keita in the middle and it was too easy for my opponent to run through. Bringing in Hector really shored everything up, same with my Serie A team, Gonalons is an absolute God-send.
- I haven't seen a 4-3-1-2 yet... Bring on the meta change!
- Belotti <3
- Using the trainer for pass and shooting mapping is a great way to get to terms with the mechanics also.
Did my squad battles for today over my lunch break, currently 3,000 points into Elite 1... Or 14,000 off of the Top 100
