Graham Alexander is a true gentleman

http://m.fleetwoodtoday.co.uk/sport...red-to-play-part-in-fleetwood-story-1-7493960

Firstly I’d like to say how proud and privileged I felt to lead Fleetwood Town in my first role as a manager.

The club was new to the football league and looked to me to help progress not only the team but the infrastructure needed to compete at their new level. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to bring my ideas to life and work with like minded people who were ambitious and open to trying new things.

My gratitude to Andy Pilley, Phil Brown and Steve Curwood who after our first meeting connected with me and offered me the job remains the same as it did then.

They took a chance on me with no real managerial experience and I hope I repaid the faith shown in me.

Their support, especially in the early stage of my tenure when I faced numerous problems in turning us into promotion candidates was extremely helpful. There are also numerous people behind the scenes who have always been there since day one to help and I thank them all.

It has been an absolute pleasure to coach the players both past and present. Their commitment to their jobs was first class and I certainly enjoyed every day out on the training pitch working on improving them both as individuals and as a team. Their heartfelt messages of support since Wednesday mean such a lot to me and I will miss them.

I’d like to express my sincere thanks to each and every one of my staff for their total loyalty and dedication not only to myself, but each other. Some I have known for many years and some not so long but they all played a significant role in everything we have achieved over the last couple of years. I will miss working with them too.

We introduced new analysis and sports science departments, a wider scouting structure and development squad which have all proved to be extremely successful. The emergence of the young talent we’ve brought through the club and from non league is especially pleasing and helped us bring down the football budget by a large percentage. The average age of the squad is now very healthy for the long term future of the club and in time I’m sure these players will fulfil their full potential.

Finally I’d like to thank all the fans who supported me and my team since we came in. I hope the results over the last month don’t overshadow our two full seasons in which we won promotion from league 2 with that historic day at Wembley, and achieved a top ten finish in the clubs first ever season in league one. I genuinely wish the club every success in the future. It has been an honour to be part of the story.

Thank you.
Graham

I'd love him at Scunny when Robins is eventually sacked. He's well liked at the club as he used to play for us and I personally think he is a good manager. I do think we'll get Evans (unless he goes somewhere else) due to his connections with Rodwell.

If Pressley is in charge for our game at the weekend I will be delighted.

So it looks like we're going from a manager who might get us relegated to a manager who will get us relegated. Great!! :(

Tbh you'll probably still beat us on Saturday given how patchy our away form is and just the fact it's Pressley.

Why would you sack a manager only to appoint a worse one?

Under Pressley I saw the Coventry play the most exciting football I have seen.

Off the pitch a top guy, but almost hated by some Coventry fans.

I give him credit for the season we had at Sixfields. We had a small squad, no money and started on minus ten points. Games were played in front of crowds sub 2000 people. He bought Callum Wilson through from the youth team, and him and Leon Clarke terrorised League One. He played high tempo, pressing football which worked and was talking about 'the way we play off the ball'. Everyone predicted we'd be relegated aswell.

Then there was last season. He made his own signings, but fell out with others. We changed to a 3-5-2 and played wing backs. Got rid of a decent LB in Blair Adams. Returned to the Ricoh and beat Gillingham in front of 32k people. Long story short. He complained about other teams loaning players whilst we must have wen't through at least ten last season. Got beat at home to Worcester. Played some of the most turgid, crap, boring football that I have ever seen at the Ricoh. Total opposite from Sixfields.

There may be a good manager in there somewhere, but I was delighted when he was sacked from CCFC.

For me the main thing that let him down was his loans/transfers. Don't get me wrong, even last year he had a tight budget, but it seemed to me like he brought in players because of their name... Simeon Jackson etc.

Ironically it was this system that got Alexander the sack which was introduced pre-season.

He just wanted to get more defenders on the field and we where ill equipped to deal with it as many are particularly at this level.

Pressley just copies whatever system is in fashion at the time.
