I sat and read on and off all 42 pages of this thread the other day and had to start up a game myself, I plumped for Nottingham Forest with a couple of cliched references to the good ol' days and the odd Brian Clough name drop.
You start off with a reasonably good squad but there's also plenty of high earning bench warmers who I've tried to bin off, plus they're a moaning bunch and anyone outside my best 11 is looking for first team guarantees. There's a massive list of loan players already in/out for starters but with cutting the wage bill down in mind, my only additions were Luke Garbutt on loan for the season and (flop) Albert Riera on a free.
The season had a steady start, by Christmas we were just outside a tight play off pack with Norwich and Fulham well out in front. All set for some additions in January and I'm hit with a transfer ban (Asombalonga non payment related I think?) so I can't do a thing, no transfers, no extending of contracts, nada, so I'm still waiting for that to be lifted.
New year form was patchy, broken by putting 5 past Sheff Weds and beating Spurs on pens in the FA Cup (only to go out to Man Utd in the next round), having shuffled formations a few times a 4-4-1-1 has taken my from 8ish up in to third, it's spring time and if I can see this form through, I'll have a good chance of promotion...

I moved from City after two seasons and went to Leicester who had finished 8th in the premier league the previous season, signings include Matt Ritchie, Elia and Lovren which at 3.3m for Lovren seemed a good price

Well ended up resigning from Leicester within the season  ended up pretty shit and somehow got the Spurs job with around 10 games to go, all they wanted was a top half finish so did that easily enough and made my mark with players in the summer.

Lloris
Jung Alderweireld Vertonghen Coentrao
Moutinho Pasalic Eriksen
Wellington Nem ........................................................... .........Januzaj
Lacazatte
Signings:

Sebastian Jung - RB from Wolfsburg - £17.5m
Wellington Nem - RW from Shaktar - £13.75m
Morgan Sanson - CM/RW from Montpellier - Free
Hervin Ongenda - ST from PSG - £3.1m
Adnan Januzaj - £18m
Alexandre Lacazette - ST from Lyon - £36m 10 in 21 with 4 assists so far
Mario Pasalic - CM from Chelsea - £7.75m, had him on loan while at leicester

Currently level on points with Chelsea at the top after 9 games on 23 points with my aim only to qualify for the Europa League.

What's the highest weekly wage people have come across on the game?

MIne's Messi and Ronaldo (he's 36 I think) on £575k a week IIRC.

Did the double! Ended up winning the league with 90 points, Ongenda who I signed for £3.1m scored 24 goals. Sanson a 23 yeard old who I got for free is now worth £23m. Varane and Stones arriving when the window opens. Hopefully I get given a decent budget and have the option of champions league qualification not just win the league.

Had a game yesterday, an FA Cup replay, where most of my squad were still on international duty so ended up having players all over the shop and named 0 subs.

i am trying the youth challenge right now. no signings, only what the youth offers.

at the moment i am already for the 8. season in charge of Carl Zeiss Jena in the 3. Liga.

my standings so far in a modified 3. Liga ( only the bottom one relegates while the top two teams playing a playoff for the only promotion spot in a 22 teams league

21/22
16/22
16/22
19/22
11/22
18/22
2/22 ( promotion playoff lost to Augsnurg 1:2 aet)
22/22 after 20 games

and at the moment i am bottom last with having won just 9 points after 20 matches

fucking difficult

FA Cup Semi Final with Sheffield Wednesday in 18/19 season, last minute screamer from Micheal Bostwick for Crystal Palace sends us out. :( I'd followed him for a couple of years too.

I'm heading for my third mid-table season in three years at the moment, not sure I am going to be able to push them on to the next level. I was really hoping for a cup this year and we'd already knocked out Chelsea and Liverpool. It's so annoying that 4-4-2 is so hard to make work on FM 14, anything else feels too defensive. My wingers tend to score loads but my strikers are struggling, mainly been playing a 4-3-2-1 after moving slowly from a 5-2-2-1. I still have 3 of my midfield from my promotion season: Corry, McAbe and Thern have all stepped up well.

My squad is quite big so I might cut it down for next season. We'll battle on.

Does anyone else find that scouts struggle to find players that will step straight into your team? Maybe I still can't attract them but nearly every player I find is a good year or two from stepping into the team. I especially need a commanding center half for next season which has been the same story for the last 2 seasons really.

2nd full season in charge with Spurs and struggling with league and champions league, got through my group (just) with Bayern, Seville and Cluj, Seville beat Bayern in Game 5 to take it right to the end where I beat them 4-1, drawn Lyon in next round. But I'm about 8th in the league....

Started a new file as well with Everton, signed Will Hughes, Charlie Austin, Kevin Prince-Boateng and a youngster striker who has good potential and is 14 at the start of the game. So much bullshit in game 3 vs Norwich, 2 missed penalties, a red card and then concede late on.

Finished my season with Fulham. Finished 11th in the end, took over when they were 16th. End of the season, and no better offers are forthcoming, so I shall persist with Fulham until one comes up. (Journeyman career if anyone's wondering  )

I've somehow built a pretty impressive squad on peanuts, and shipped out a tonne of deadwood...

If you're wondering about the tactics, I've used someone elses as a base, and perfected mine off it. Bertrand Traore isn't the shit QPR one, for the record...

Only major blip this season being a 2-1 loss to Bury in the cup somehow after battering them. At home aswell... Fuckers. The sale of Dembele was necessary to help rebuild, and I managed to get hold of Talavera for much cheaper and he's a better player.

On another note, what's everyone elses thoughts on a DoF? Tends to get me cheaper transfers I find, will find players I like and send him to buy them, leave him to find players too and they pop up with the occasional gem, Bytyqi being the one in this window!

Taken over at Everton as well as France, I'll take France to the World Cup and then quit after the tournament. Also, I hate FM sometimes...

End of an era at Liverpool as my final player from my first day in the job has left - 31 year old Jon Flanagan sold to Athletico. Could've probably stayed for another season or two but I had younger players waiting in the wings.

That after Henderson had left in the January transfer window before that and Coutinho the previous summer.

Made a concerted effort to keep a decent core of HG players and currently have 9 in the squad.

Does anyone else pick a team you don't like and edit them so they fail? For example, I put every one of Man City's players on a contract matching the highest earner, set one player's weekly wage to £500k and turned off the sugar daddy option. They're now in administration and close to being relegated. It's strangely quite therapeutic.

Anyway, I chose a random Danish second division team, Frem and got them to the Champion's League. Now out of work waiting for an opportunity.

I have done in the past, but I'm enjoying Birmingham's natural demise on my game to be honest.

It's getting to the point where when we play a top 6 teams we might as well not turn up. So annoying.

I read an article which helpfully summarised this project, but couldn't find it.

THere's a link to a reddit article on that youtube video - some guy did it on FM12. Back to back to back relegations, before surviving on GD in L2.

Ended up with players earning £1.8m a week

Thought I'd share my latest career here as I'd only just discovered this board existed. PS this is from FM handheld 12 because I'm too cheap to buy on PC.

Started and ended career at Grimsby, lasting the full 30 years. Took about 9 years to get from the Conference to Premiership. Won first Premier League title in about 2025. Finished with 12 league titles, 16 cup. Always focused on low wages so I could always buy expensive players. Most I paid was £31m for a striker in my last season. Most I sold a player for was £61m to Real Madrid. Best player I had was Courtney Palmer, lasted 15 years with me, from League 2 to top flight and averaging 15 goals a season from CM.
Handhelds so much easier to use as you can get through a couple of seasons a night. Got FM15 but didn't really like it so carried on with this version.

FFS.

First loss in 50 odd games. Won the league in March, mind.

My 5 strikers scored 152 between them this season, creating 68!

Second highest scorer missed 4 months of the season as well.

Started a career with Utd as I've done a few recently starting lower and wanted instant cash to spend.

First season signings were Isco who chipped in with 10 goals in his first season playing CAM. Denis Cheryshev who I've seen has scored often against me before so decided to go for him, left winger 23 years old, £15m and 11 goals in 39 games or so, decent return. £29.5m 17 goals in 39 games as right winger, but spent a lot of time injured in his first season, would nurse him back and he'd get injured in his 3rd game back or so and Hummels for £30m. Signed Morata in January and he popped up with a decent amount of goals in the back end of the season 6 in 16 (12 sub appearances). Also signed Subotic in January to play alongside Hummels, cost about £12M and does a decent job when he plays.

Ended up winning the league by a few points, Memphis with 32 goals for me in his first season helped a lot, Rooney passed 20 goals as well. Reached FA Cup and Champions League finals only to be beaten by Chelsea and Man City respectively so close to a treble in my first season. Second season I've signed John Stones and Harry Kane before the first season even ended once Champions League was guaranteed I was given my budget. James Ward-Prowse, Thiago, Jack Butland. Been given a champions league group of PSG, Bayer leverkusen and Steaua Bucharest, lost to Leverkusen which was a problem, had about 6/7 first team/bench injuries and lost to a 90th minute goal. Having a big problem with injuries in this save so far.
