I'm surprised they changed the presenters. Lynsey Hygrave was very good and George Riley was competent if not fantastic. Colin Murray is just bloody annoying.

Riley was shit, he just used to sit there and gawk, Virgo is proof that you don't need to know anything about football to have been a footballer, awful analysis. No real issues with LH, personally felt she could have hosted it by herself.

I should add that 2002/2003 was the only successful season that we had between 1998 and 2008, we finished 7th in league two. Every other season during that period saw relegation, fighting to stay in the league and probably a brush with extinction.
When that show ended ITV replaced it with the championship, I remember watching episode one and to my absolute disgust they only showed the highlights from the championship and just whizzed over league's one and two. I remember writing a furious letter of complaint to them after this. Useless door handles.

The Granada Soccernight/Soccer Sunday and Granada Big Matches were the best. Saw an old video of a Manchester United vs Montpellier game pre-Premier League back in the days when working class fans swamped the Stretford End and a good 40,000 were singing "Elton Welsby you're a wanker, you're a wanker."

The Championship was dreadful. Luckily we were a Championship club at the time but the fact they failed to show the League 1 and 2 highlights was very poor. I think it took Leeds' relegation to League One for them to all be shown in the end!

I think it had already happened before that. I remember tuning in a few times during the 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 season to catch Bury's goals. Though despite doing that most week, there would still be odd weeks where they just didn't bother showing the goals outside the championship.
It was strange because they evidently had the time, however they obviously had far too much incompetence and like with the awful premiership they tried to be too clever.

After I discovered that ITV would not be showing goals outside the championship, Bury had two high scoring victories over the August Bank Holiday. Most notably a 3-0 victory at Spotland followed by a 4-0 home victory over Kidderminster, all in the space of three days. Obviously the 'Championship' showed none of our goals, so I tried ITV Soccer Night with Alliastair Mann. I concluded that with our win at Spotland being a local derby there would be some focus on the fixture. Well I tuned in late at night to find that the expert guests were Les Battersby and Kirk from Coronation Street. They then spent the best part of the show talking about United and City then the next part discussing Coronation Street. They finally got to the goals in the lower leagues and skimmed over them showing one of our goals against Kidderminster and a sending off and not even mentioning the 3-0 victory over Rochdale. Furious I sent ITV another letter of complaint. Without bothering to apologise, they replied and informed me that they can't be expected to show all the footage and that to see Bury's goals I should tune into Granada Tonight. So essentially to get your team's goals don't bother with either of our football highlights shows just watch Granada Tonight instead. You will have to endure all the boring headlines, travel news and Fred the Weatherman as well, but hey you might get to see your club's goals. Parasites, as you can see it still peas me off, and whilst BBC and Channel five aren't perfect and have their flaws both are streets ahead of the incompetent dross that ITV initially produced.
