Fairest way to do it really is probably

Championship, top 3 GKs, top 5 defenders, top 15 midfielders, top 15 strikers

league one, top 10 players

then throw in 3 league two players

If it was like this i'd go

Goalkeepers: Westwood, Ruddy, Ikeme
Defenders: Steve Cook, Simon Francis, Martin Olsson, Daniel Ayala, Danny Batth
Midfielders: Leadbitter, Antonio, Jota, Ritchie, Arter, Brad Johnson, Hughes, Bryson, Pritchard, Sako, Kev McDonald, Redmond, Tomlin, Hoolahan, Gudmundsson
Strikers: Murphy, Assombalonga, Bamford, Gray, Rhodes, Martin, Ighalo, Gestede, Wilson, Kermorgant, Deeney, Jerome, Vydra, Dicko, Vetokele

then League One: Alli, Garner, Luongo, Freeman, Flint, Gallagher, Nathan Byrne, Matt Done, Ian Henderson, and Jamie Murphy maybe?

then League Two: Ryan Woods, Marc Richards and Danny Mayor

Simples.

Probably agree with your whole list, I'd just change Dicko for Afobe.

If only it was a top 51

Otherwise, great effort.

Cook rightly in there...46 is low but then again it's surprising for him to be there considering he hasn't scored this year nor made many assists. Couldn't really comment myself as I haven't seen enough football this season but yeah, always going to be flaws in a three-league ranking system.

Looks like Like like they have gone with the top scores or assist makers. Probably not much research done.

Jamie Murphy? Really?

Edit: ignore me, I've had too many drinks and thought you meant Joe Murphy :spear:

Would have put my house on Will Hughes being in the top 10, despite a few fans I've spoken to saying he's not been as good as last season.

League Two's handful is also very hit and miss. Reuben Reid? No way.

I know we all go into bat for our own players, but surprised Johnny Russell or Tom Ince* are not included

The thing with the lower league players are that surely they stand out on a more consistent basis. If you only saw your team play Derby once, and Russell didn't play, or had a slightly off key game, then you wouldn't have included him in your vote. If I was asked to recall who the best 3 players I have seen against Wolves in the last two seasons, even now I am already thinking purely about goal scorers or creative types. It's harder to recall good defending or keepers you were impressed with.

Ikeme has a stigma from his unsuccessful loan spells from years back, going into last season I was fearful that he would be starting for us with Hennessey out and De Veries masquerading as a footballer, however he was my fans player of the season vote, the games I saw him in he was incredible. Was easily the best keeper in the league, but when you put your evidence (of seeing team A) forward against someone who has a totally different set of evidence (seeing team B) then you are never going to agree.

No idea how the list is complied, but a few odd picks in there, but pleased for our lot (not that it counts for much in the real world).

Much as I love Callum Wilson, and as much as it will make Watford fan's day for a Bournenmouth fan to say it, but Wilson is a not quite the best striker in the division, he is a not quite so good version of Troy Deeney in my view. Same type of striker with the same style, directly comparable but Deeney has a few years on Wilson and is the better of the two right now. Interesting to see them paired together in the list though.

As for Ritchie, he's on to become the first ever player to win 'player of the season' in all 3 Football League divisions. He will be a Premiership player next reason regardless of where we end up, and rightfully so. He's been ridiculously good for us and probably the best 400k anyone could possibly spend.

This remark was uncalled for :told:

No dig intended. If it's any consolation, if we don't go up we will lose him to someone like West Brom or Stoke or some such - might even be a sell-on for Swindon? Don't know.

If we were stupid enough to sell him for 400k, I doubt we were switched on enough to do that :dk:

Nah, it's well-known in these parts that there is no sell-on clause. We desperately needed the money at the time of the sale and, as a result, were shafted.

Nice to see Lewis Cook's efforts have been recognised. It's a shame Alex Mowatt didn't make the cut.

I fail to see how Marc Richards placed 13th.. and I am a big fan of his. But you cannot tell me that there are only 12 better players in the football league! I would take several who are supposedly behind him all day!

Wilson is the best striker in the football league for me.

I am slightly biased...

What a bizarre list.

As much as I like the guy, and rate him as a solid player, I can't believe Howson is on there and not any of Tettey, Hoolahan or Johnson

I'll just assume Tettey is on his own list somewhere.
