If it’s 2-1 you’ve had a shocker of a performance.

No way should you even be conceding.
We’ve kept one of the least amount of clean sheets in the league, I’d be very surprised if we did even against a struggling side. I’m getting Rochdale vibes from a few years ago tbh. Everyone expecting us to win against a team we don’t do great against, it doesn’t usually end well.

I’ve said this to so many fans, you have to see it to believe how bad we are. Ask any Tranmere fan on here as they were the most recent fanbase to witness us.

We ain’t scoring unless you literally chuck the ball in your own net for us.

However bad you thought we were in September at your place, we’re much worse now. The worst team I’ve ever seen. A few new signings aren’t going to change that over night.

As seemingly always we’re playing a terrible side who just happen to have strung together a couple of wins.

Record against Accy is pretty good the last 2 seasons though so another game we *should* win even without the little one-footed beyblade in midfield

Bass
McDonald Platt Bedeau
Jones Palmer Abbott Tsaroulla
Grant Jatta Didzy

Jarvis and Whitaker off the bench for their debuts and 20 minutes in the legs for Curt Edwards

Harsh to drop Sammy Austin. Bloke has been incredible lately

That’s pushing it a bit, hes done well in the context that he was utterly atrocious up until December and Jones plays on the right - not sure why anyone would contemplate the idea of him playing over Jones for 1 second

Jones should obviously start if he’s ready, but looked well off it still in the couple of sub appearances he’s had IMO. Obviously we’ve not played for a couple of weeks, so a fortnight of training might have him closer to full sharpness and ready to do 70 mins rather than 30 though.

I remain a bona fide Sam Austin ultra myself. I’d give him another three-year deal, he can do a passable job basically anywhere on the pitch, but is probably starting a bit more than you’d want this season.

Wonder what we’re going to do with Josh Martin? He’s gone from a lost cause to looking useful and versatile since getting a proper chance. You’d think that with the Crowley money it’d make sense and be easy enough to give him until the end of the season to see if he can keep it up. I actually thought he looked most impressive playing as a ten at Cheltenham rather than wing back as well, so it’d be another possible option there.

The problem for me with Sam Austin is I see far too much of me in his game. Even at my peak that isn't a good thing but he's in good form recently was poor beforehand.

George Byers finally fit, huge boost considering he has managed half a Vertu game and 15 minutes against Walsall since September. Should improve our midfield significantly. Harper and Stockley also fit so only Ripley (Paternity) unavailable. Hopefully we can kick on now with 6-7 key players back from injury who've missed recent months.

Sam Austin always seems to play well when the team plays well and is shit when everyone else is shit. Handy bloke to have around though.

Saturday I’d go Austin on the right Jodi on the left with Josh Martin in the no 10. I don’t think JJ has been too bad when he’s come on, has put in a filthy cross both times. Accy’s a game we should be winning if we’re after autos.

I never go on your message board. I meant on here. He's always getting slagged off.
Is he? The occasional comment from RavenBish and myself but not much.

I guess he gets some bad press because he's clearly less talented than most of our other attacking players and he's jack of all trades master of none which makes him useful but hardly ever standout. Never stops working for the team so a useful squad player who you hope doesn't start too often.

We've finally got an actual midfield! It's no surprise that our poor run of form coincided with having a makeshift midfield.

No excuses for Moore now, we have a fully fit squad, that should be more than capable of a play off spot at the absolute minimum.

It also feels a bit like he's stumbled on a 3-5-2 formation that will help our goalscorers.

Big game on Saturday against a very average Newport team. We really need to despatch them.

Got to be winning tomorrow absolutely no excuses. Del Boy will have his lads fired up but their quality is nowhere near ours. But if we're complacent we'll definitely come up a cropper.

Going for a 3-1 win though and that'll put us in a nice position for the home game with Accrington next Saturday.

As with everything in football every player has to be amazing or terrible so little Sammy Austin fits in the latter for me - but the truth is he’s below average in most positions but not quite bad enough to stand out negatively in a good side. He’s not remotely quick enough to play out wide and it gets exposed constantly and he’s just not got the physical attributes to play in midfield either (I also think he’s a weird player in that he’s technically good enough but also doesn’t look comfortable receiving the ball under pressure).

The exact sort of player you can admit has been a useful squad player on average over the last 3 years but you back yourself to find a much better version of him going forward - talk of giving him a new contract is wild to me, especially if we’re in the territory as a club of having one eye on League One in the future.

So he's basically the Notts version of Harry Clifton. A lot was made of us letting him go to Donny in the summer (by Town fans) and as nice as it is to have a home grown player in your squad that has amassed 250+ appearances, he's not been missed this season really. Bit harsh to say it after being all the effort he's put in but we have better midfielders across the board now. Still, if he goes up with Donny then fair play to him.

Clifton's positions played on Transfermrkt is madness:

Agree with every word. The lack pace to play on the wing and strength to play centrally is basically me back in the day.

What he has got is a great engine, he covers so much ground and is versatile. Beyond that he's Joe Average at best but loves by many including the man that matters.

Definitely need an upgrade if we go up a level.

Yup, since we signed him he’s played as a wing back on both sides and in all four of our midfield ‘positions’ at one time or another. Usually drops a reasonable performance with lots of running around and pressing. Never going to be a star but he probably allows you to carry one or two fewer back-up players because he can cover so many of them.

Engineering work between Clapham Junction and Earlsfield this weekend. Best route from the north is Northern Line to Tooting Broadway then walk or bus.
I'd originally thought I'd go to this, new ground etc. However, not practical to stay over in London this weekend and rail replacement buses at both the start and end of the journey put me off. A 5 hour+ journey on bus/train combo after another away thumping doesn't bear thinking about.

Very comfortable home win.

Like most fixtures it seems a bit unpredictable. Thus far I haven’t been optimistic with our home games but, for no fathomable reason, I feel we may just take all 3 points.

Probably puts the mockers on it

Rumours abound we might be announcing one or two last minute signings this afternoon too.

Yeah pretty much this. Not sure what the max allocation is but we sold out pretty much on the day they came out I believe.

Injury wise, the long termers and definitely out of this one are Grigg, Dunkley, Gordon, Metcalfe, Jacobs, Williams, Araujo & Daley-Campbell so it’s still looking a hefty list of 8 out (most of which are big players for us), but that has gradually come down a little bit from where we were Xmas/New year time. Seemingly losing Markanday (although nothing official yet) is a serious blow though as he’s definitely been one of the best players in the league this season, so fingers crossed we can pull of some kind of miracle and get him to stay till the end of the season but looks unlikely. The likes of Madden, Palmer & Fleck have all been back training this week so I’d expect them to be involved on the bench, but there’s a question mark on Berry’s availability regarding his hamstring *cough* Blackpool bids…

I think we’ll look like this:

Thompson
Sheckleford Naylor Grimes Horton
Mandeville Banks
Hobson Dobra Colclough
Pepple

Boot (GK)
Donacien
Oldaker
Fleck
Berry
Madden
Drummond
Is Banks not suspended?

I agree about Martin. He looked a proper livewire when he moved inside. I'd try very hard to find a place for him there based on that performance, he looked like he could score a goal a game from there with Jatta leading the line.
He looked like the perfect rotation for McGoldrick.

Mainly by Ravenbish to be fair. Sam Austin is limited and making him play left wingback was footballer abuse but he's very fit, versatilish and has a great work ethic. Real team player who always does his best.

Been that long since we played I’d completely forgotten about that. He missed the MK game didn’t he, so yeah be 2 more (this & Vale)

In that case, Oldaker replaces him in my line up, very much like for like tbf
