Harsh result, we haven't offered much but neither have Cheltenham. They've have to rely on a penalty to get anything out of this.
Poor league if they're top.
Need to win at least 4 of our remaining 6 games now.
Bit fortunate today Cheltenham.
Surely it's our turn to get the rub of the green one day.
3 minutes added on despite numerous stoppages....bull****.

I'm all for saying we're not very good, but ref being a bit of a homer aside, I'd love to know what game you were watching.

Andy Williams missed a sitter from about 10 yards a few mins before the penalty. At the start of the second half we were practically camped in to the Orient defensive third, with Callum Wright missing a great chance and Alfie May nearly putting one in. Then about halfway into the half, Vigoroux made a fantastic diving save from a Sercombe shot.

I'm not massive on stats, but we had 10 shots to Orient's 2. The fact our strikers can't finish for toffee should not take away from the fact that for 75 mins or so, but for a couple of spells in the first half, Cheltenham were dominant. The last 15 mins, we camped in and asked Orient to have a go. Griffiths made one save.

If it makes you feel better to say we were lucky, and that it's a shit league because we're top, the go for it. We'll just enjoy being top, and 7 points clear of the playoffs.

Harrogate played very well first half closed us down and won every second ball and had a deserved lead, we just did enough second half to take the points but anything but impressive, a nervy 6 games to come. by full time it became a very good day for us, so unpredictable this league. I agree that Thomasson made a huge difference and Maddison is not the right fit for us, i feel uncomfortable warching him, Had a chance today but blew it.

Great hard fought win that, six in a row and mathematically safe.

Had to weather a lot of aerial threat and stood up to a man. Even managed to even up the dodgy penalty they got at their place as Bris tackle looked a pen to me.

On we go!

You seem very bitter based on this post and previous ones on this thread. We were comfortably the better side today, you only had one shot on target that I can remember. You also seem very upset that we have a long throw we can use as if your team wouldn't do exactly the same if you could.

What has to also be said is take a bow Mr Guthrie, that goal Monday seems to have really got him pumped, was absolutely everywhere today, including a superb reading of a clever free kick to save a goal.

Really chuffed for Carol and Kevin, DC has completely turned us back around, shame it’s too late, 8 points is too much with games in hand above us, if only we’d started a couple of weeks earlier.

Off to Carlisle buzzing next week, try and keep the run going.

Yep, this is when we start to bottle it now, really poor performance.

You weren't that bad. Only real difference in the game was after the snow stoppage it was clear Morecambe were struggling to get back going again for 10 minutes and we took advantage.

Maybe final ball was lacking at times second half but you looked a decent enough team to me. Certainly as good as any of the other promotion contenders have seen lately apart from Cheltenham. Good luck.

They made us work hard for the win, Adams wanted the game called off during which time our fitness coach was warming up our players and they came out so slow whilst we were in gear.

Yeah that wouldn’t have sent a good message to his team to be honest in doing that. That’s what I think DC and the team today get a lot of credit for being able to react to the situation. It is night and day between him and Askey on that particular front.

As it happened got to hand to Speedy he did an incredible job in a relatively short period of time getting that pitch playable again.

Amazing win for us. I’d given up on autos but we have a sniff. Trouble is, we’ll probably lose at Barrow on Tuesday now!

Still think Cambridge will go up but there will be a lot of twists and turns to come.

Terrible game, poor first half then went into some odd preseason mode whereby we strolled around, couldn’t put two passes together and invited an equaliser which fortunately never came.

I thought Morecambe were comfortably the best team we've played in our recent run. Some very tidy passers and very well organised. They let themselves down with some terrible crosses and a lack of punch up front. We weren't great today, Joyce had a stinker and we gave the ball away a lot. We defended very well though and I don't think Brown has made a save all game. Thought we were lucky with Brisley's tackle but as others have said, they got an absolute shocker at their place.

Again, I'm frustrated because although Morecambe are one of the better teams we've played, we still beat them without playing at our best. Better luck with injuries and sacking Askey off 6 weeks before we did, I'm sure we'd be in the playoffs if not challenging for autos. It's never been a quality league, but as Clarke said in his pre match press conference, it's usually won by the teams that can scrap out 10 or 12 wins when the conditions aren't great. There's no team that's miles better than the others. Let's hope we can carry this momentum into next season.

I cant believe this vale squad has won 6 games in a row they looked hopeless and in serious trouble a month ago. Darell Clarke and Andy Crosby have done an excellent job getting this lot fit and defending brilliantly. Morecambe looked a good side passing it about but didn't really have any clear cut chances. Conlon is having a superb season and was rightly made captain 2 months ago he's my vale player of the season. Looks like we will finish midtable and I still think Morecambe will make the play offs as they looked decent they actually attempted to play football and try to win the game whereas past Morecambe sides have been really poor at the vale but ended up winning with there only shot on goal most of the time.

It was Groundhog Day for us. A lot of possession and good approach play, and actually a fair number of good chances, but we just can't score a goal at the moment. It seems to be a psychological issue for the players now, as we are scuffing and mishitting chances from six and twelve yards out. Almost as if we are trying too hard in Vaughan's absence.

We still look solid defensively and do not look like losing games, so I am hoping that one victory will spark an upturn in form, similar to Vale, Carlisle and Orient recently.

Morecambe is a strange one, at their place they literally parked the bus. We had 70% possession and nabbed a win with a dodgy Pen, today they actually did play some decent stuff so why they were so negative at home who knows.

Great to get the 6 wins, 1996 is a long time ago although we had the likes of Foyle, Guppy and Co then.

If we beat Carlisle it would be the first time we’ve done 7 in 128 years! Would love to do it...

Clarke has been incredible, took a while to get the wins but 9 goals conceded in 13 games (3 of which were in the only real stinker at Cheltenham), when you consider in that 25 game awful run we were haemorrhaging goals left, right and centre you can see where it’s changed.

I’ve said it before im massively frustrated by it in a way as even an average run below par in that dodgy spell would have had us up there but positive signs the new regime will get us up there next season.

I genuinely felt we were down a month ago so to turn it like we have and now be officially safe is a huge relief.

We were poor today, conditions didn’t help but as said Brown hasn’t made a save so if we can grind results out it’s a positive, some big contract decisions to be made this summer.

2-2 is a fair result, our next game at Newport is still massive. Big win for Exeter balanced out for us at least by FGR and as things stand, Morecambe both losing. The playoff race is really tightening up.
You sound a lot more cheerful and optimistic, hope you get into the play offs

Any chance you could send me the Port Vale HMS piss the league picture from earlier in the season so I can use it next season in the National League forum incase we win our first 2 games please

I promise I’ll have it back to you in time for next September for you all to use it again if you have a good start.

Port Vale’s current run of form is great. They are ending the season really well. But didn’t they end last season really before it was curtailed? Causing all their fans to announce them as 2021 League 2 champions before a ball had been kicked.

Most other fans had us down to do well as well if I recall. Last few weeks and start of the season have shown when fit and organised we are up there but what happened happened off the field and with injuries mid season so is what it is.

DC does seem to have worked wonders and a huge summer ahead, we’ve invested massively in the past couple of months or so and the owners won’t be doing that with the aim of sitting around mid table league two so the expectation at the club will be to challenge, over to DC and Flitcroft to deliver the summer to make that happen.

its beautiful to get away with giving a fairly blatant penalty away against a team who beat us due to a horrendous dive in the reverse fixture. its sometimes difficult to see when these decisions we all moan about even themselves up, so nice to get one over on morecambe in the next match. that being said, instead of both getting 2 points from 2 nailed on draws, we each get 3, so we've both come out of the 2 wrong decisions 1 point better off.

Going briefly off topic, why was Phil Brown dressed like a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra in his post match interview ?

Grimsby have announced they'll be appealing the Payne red card and are hopeful that the FA will provide a boost ahead of their match against Bolton by extending Payne's suspension from three matches to six matches.
