Under the lights at Meadow Lane...

Looks like the kind of game where we may be able to get ourselves going with a win on the back of a promising display at Middlesbrough tonight.

Am not sure how strong Yeovil went for their tie, but we decided to rest the majority of our key players for the really short turnaround. Dennis and Hemmings didn’t even travel and, with Stead playing ninety minutes, I imagine we’ll see them as a pair for the first time. Boldewijn, Tootle and Vaughan were left at home too, with Thomas an unused sub.

They will all start, but we’ve a few choices elsewhere. Noor Husin was seemingly excellent but a midfield two of him and Vaughan would surely be too lightweight. We actually played 3-5-2, which is an option too I guess.

We put out our strongest side apart from injuries and suspensions as that's all we had left. Played really well which is encouraging, although it may take it out of our players for Friday.

Can't see anything other than a County win. 3-1.

I think this will be tough for us. I fully expect Yeovil to come with a game plan to frustrate. Our strikers have been poor at finishing in the games so far so need to improve quickly...

10 quid on a Friday night but I still think it will be a low turnout.

There's a distinct section of our fans who think we need to be top of the league from day one. If we don't win this I'm not looking forward to the meltdown

Notts County should be winning this, I was disappointed we only drew on Saturday despite being away and the defensive horror show in the first half.

£10 a ticket? Is the club doing a ticket offer already?

Yeah it’s what proactive engaged chairmen do when they spot a Friday night fixture and an undersatandbly small away following.

I think it’s great for the fans. Mansfield should try it from time to time

Stop being so defensive all the time, I was just asking because you can only do (3?) per season.

It makes perfect sense to be honest. It's a Friday night during peak holiday season against Yeovil Town. It's not like we will get a big crowd for that so encouraging people to come early on in the season might make them want to come more regularly

Not sure what's so surprising.

As long as you extend the offer to away fans, you can do as many as you like. You can do 4 promotions that discriminate e.g. different pricing for away fans

I understand the Friday aspect, although it did not seem to make much of a difference when Mansfield played against County on a friday night. I would like it if Mansfield made use of those 4 offers per season.

I think you county lot are a bit edgy/defensive at the moment, possibly to due with the below average start but it's way to early to get defensive.

If it's still a below average start around the 10 game mark, I'll make sure i'm on full form so you can leap to the defensive stance.

I think that only applies to deals that aren’t extended to the away fans, most (maybe all) of the ones Hardy has done have been for both sets, including this one.

Edgy and defensive ? Lol clutching at straw on here buddy.

I’ll give you a clue to your question. What was the away attendance when Mansfield played Notts on a Friday night? I know it was More than your home support but can’t remember the exact figure. You know the reason Conks, big day out.

Your initial post suggested it was a bad thing to offer cheaper deals to increase attendances?!? That’s bizarre, I can’t understand why Mr Radford doesn’t do similar especially considering the stadium capacity at field mill , average home support, nominal growth and above all his personal investment ? Maybe he doesn’t trust the Mansfield public to respond in kind to a generous offer . Can’t blame him tbf.

Last season offers by Mr Hardy produced a fantastic response in both home and away ends. Give it a go

If you want a 2 game meltdown visits Notts County Mad, the OFF Notts fans are a tad different, Superior.

My initial post did not suggest ‘it was a bad thing’ I was interested in the tickets price.

The lack of cheap tickets, just the entire club ticketing arrangment is pretty piss poor at Mansfield, hence why I was interested. It was £20 to watch us in the league cup last night is a good example.

Anyway, be a goodun and explain to me what I’m clutching straws at.

Edgy? Defensive? After two games on here? Lol that is very much a clutched straw.

Promotional offers can and should be at any time of the season. Yeovil at home on a Friday night doesn’t exactly require Columbo to assist.

Why Radford and Radford screw up the pricin I have no idea. And promotional offers should be common place at Field Mill for the reasons given earlier. Makes no sense but helps explain attendances

Let’s get back to the match NCFC vs YTFC

£20 for first round against Accrington is pretty steep, especially when everyone plays second strings.

As for Friday, we need a win. We need to stay in touch with the top end, need to boost confidence for the players and need to calm the hyperventilating pant pissers down. It honestly only takes half a dozen vociferous posters on social media for Notts to get worked into a lather. Hardy will react, pressure on Nolan would ratchet up.
It sounds ridiculous, it is ridiculous but Nolan is our longest serving manager for a decade having completed one full season and some want him sacked now ffs.

Should be an interesting selection, Hemmings and Dennis look likely to start, Boudwijn and Vaughan definite in midfield, Fitz, Duffy and Tootle in defence.
That leaves four places up for grabs. I'd prefer Kellet to Thomas and Hall if remotely fit to Brisley who seems to have lost his way. Jones has no competition at LB and then who will cover the ground if Hewitt doesn't play. Crawford?

There are some right planks following us but I'm not sure it's unique to us.
We do need to rid ourselves of the sacking culture though, it's corrosive and I just hope Alan Hardy doesn't succumb to the short termism that's done us so much damage the last ten years.

Of course it’s not any popular unofficial forum/messageboard attracts these planks. They are usually a combination of doomsdayers, and hindsight talkers. Not a difficult role to play when you support a lower league club where there is more bad than good.

When times are good they disappear naturally, they negatively spin everything and hope for defeats so they look good on a Internet forum in front of people who they don’t know and are just usernames.

Sounds a delightful life. I’ll stick to here, I’m delighted the NCM net has swallowed them all up.

Forums like NCM and even Twitter become echo chambers. Everything is exaggerated. Everything repeats and you only hear one type of view.

The Keith Curled sacking was a good example. Many wanted to give him more time but didn't bother saying it on the forum. Then went ape when he was sacked.

Be very interesting to see who partners Vaughan in midfield. Hewitt? Husin? Crawford?? Hall will surely get the nod over Bris if fit, and looks like we will finally see Hemmings and Dennis together after cup specialist Jon Stead played 90 mins on Tuesday. I’m excited/nervous.

Zoko out for Yeovil? Although his time at ML was anti-climatic, I’m wary of him when he plays against us

I agree with Mr GloverLover and Viking Magpie here. A tenner a ticket is a great idea and i've been able to rope a mate into coming along too tomorrow night because of it so thanks and gratitude go to Mr Hardy and all at Notts.

Any County fans on here be decent enough to give me some info on parking? I am led to believe there is a large car park on the other side of the road of the Jimmy Sirrell stand where the away fans are housed. Is this the cattlemarket and if so how much is it to park? Also does it fill quickly? If i got there at say about quarter to 7 would i easily get a space?

Cheers in advance Mags. :2thumb:

I'm expecting us to be on the back foot for much of the game but i must say the performance against Villa was very encouraging. If we can get confidence from that despite the loss and take it into tomorrow then i think we can get something at Meadow Lane although the pessimist in me is expecting a defeat.

The Villa game will have taken a lot out of us, as i guess will the County game up at the Riverside.

Hopefully we can sneak a win but also hope County can get promoted as they are too big a club for league 2 and have been in the wilderness so to speak for quite a number of years now.

If you're at the ground for quarter to seven there should be parking £4 . If you go down Meadow Lane on the right is a Jet petrol station, turn down the side of it and park for free. Three / four minute walk from the away end.
I would expect us to make around five to six changes from Tuesday.

Hopefully Tuesday, albeit almost a completely different side, kicks the team on.

It could have been that Boro like to play as well which allowed us a little more time on the ball to “practice” passing.

We obviously won’t get that against Yeovil but maybe both new strikers are ready for the first time and we can look somewhat as we should be.

Got to be looking for a comfortable win but I can’t see us getting a clean sheet until Nolan sorts out the players (mates) he is picking and either drop them or teach them how to “do” defending.

3-1 Notts

I don’t understand why our defence has suddenly become some sort of massive existential issue because they (well, mostly Brisley) played badly in one game at Cambridge. They kept a clean sheet the week before and it’s the same one that was the third best in the league or something last season!

It’s a strange one, I just don’t have any confidence in them to do the “right” thing for the situation they are in. i.e playing the player down the side rather than into the box, positioning yourself not to give the attacker the run past, not letting the opposition outweigh you in corner situations.
It could be Fitz not commanding enough but collectively they are very well below what is required. If we could get Hall back quickly that could go some way to shoring it up but it appears he’s back at Brighton getting treatment?

We may have had a clean sheet but it was more to do with Colchester not testing us enough. At the moment we are terrible down the left of defence.

It comes down to the fact that people don't like Duffy imo. He gets dogs of abuse where I sit in the kop. Gets blamed for all sorts when often it's not his fault

Notts fans always need a boo boy. I thought it would turn to Dan Jones buy it looks like it's gonna be Duffy.

Loads of fans seem keen to disregard the fact we had the 4th best defence last year. Doesn't fit with their agenda

Duffy suffers from the same thing a lot of footballers do - he looks sort of awkward so people think he’s rubbish, even though his actual output and numbers are really good. I think our back four is basically fine, concerns over the goalkeeper notwithstanding.
