Do players sent off in friendlies get banned for league games ?

Guess it depends when and how serious the offence is .

Yeah, still count I think. Two straight reds in our game last night against Fleetwood, both players who were badly tackled going off injured. The Fleetwood guy on a stretcher.

Win over Leipzig today and a draw with Werder Bremen means we landed the Innsbruck Cup. No idea what that is but nice to win nonetheless. We did look good in particular against Leipzig - a team who’ve been in the champions league the last five years and played a full strength side.

Luton beat us 2-1 today. We were better than our last few games but still gave 2 really soft goals away. Need a centre half and keeper pronto.

There seems to be a little bit of a consensus of Sheffield Wednesday struggling this season. Based on today, a week out from the season, I think I’d have to concur.

Luton started off very slow… I thought they were pretty undercooked considering we’re 2 weeks out, but gradually upped the pace. To be honest, it should’ve really been a 4-1 victory because of the chances wasted.

I’d be wagering a few English pounds that Ipswich get in the play offs.

Finished with a 2-0 defeat at Stockport, means little but it's been such a crap pre-season. Injuries (Holmes hobbling off today), only two goals from senior players, and crappy, half-assed performances.

Bristol City have been smashing in goals, so could be a rough start.

Yep, myself and most fans agree. We were at a disadvantage with going up late through the play offs anyway but to then get rid of the manager and make our first signing a week and half before the season starts is ridiculous.

Fiorentina at home announced. Can't remember many more interesting friendlies than that for us.

The home games are actually decent, Everton will probably sell out the Kop. Two good crowds I'd expect.

Beat Stevenage 3-0 in a behind closed doors game. Morris, Chong and probably most interestingly Taylor with the goals.

Obviously only a very very early pre season game but good to see Taylor in the goals already, he will really be pushing to get into the first team picture.

Of note that Doughty, Adebayo, Mengi all played who are players I think might leave ultimately

Won 1-0 at Boreham Wood.

Could have been more but they also missed a penalty too.

Now onto the minor game on of the night .

Lost 2-1 to Danish Super league side AGF in a behind closed doors game at the training ground.

They start their season next week so not that surprising. Morris got our goal.

Beat Lviv 1-0 in Slovenia, Morris again with the goal. Woodrow missed a penalty.

Chong went off injured which is a shame but hopefully not serious.

Last season injuries still lurking, Bell, Andersen, Nakamba, Brown all yet to feature in pre season and rumoured to be missing the start of the season too which tends in my mind to lead to players like that really struggling to impact until the turn of the year as they try and play catch up with everyone else.

Absolutely mad what happened to us between Jan and end of the season. I know I went on about it at the time but it’s mad the amount of serious injuries we had if they still aren’t able to feature in pre season

We got spanked by 4-0 by RB Salzburg today. Their season starts next Saturday so they’re a lot further on than we are.

Luton lost 3-2 to Goztepe today in Slovenia… a team who had lost 3-1 to Charlton last weekend and have just been promoted to the top flight in Turkey this summer.

In truth, that result flatters Luton. It’s the first match I’ve watched in full this pre-season - frankly we have problems and we seem miles away from being ready. Three weeks to go, I’m not overly concerned just yet, but the final two matches against Dundee and Celta Vigo will need to see more fluidity.

It’s pre-season so I shouldn’t read too much into it, but some of the more established names didn’t exactly look too interested. Others worked hard and showed the intensity needed in full league play. I really think Tahith Chong will be interesting teams higher up… he has been very impressive.

Injuries are piling up especially in defence. Teden Mengi has now missed both games this week leading to speculation about his future - Nice sniffing around last week.

We need to ramp up our recruitment this week.

Looking really weak in central areas at the moment. Centre half and central midfield look to need serious strengthening to me. Not helped by injuries but that notwithstanding the depth there looks like it’s not up to it, a lot of youth players featuring heavily so far this pre season, feels a lot more so than previous pre seasons to me

Not overly concerned but does feel we are a bit behind where you’d want to be at this stage of the pre season, and the other side of the training camp, think a fair few movements both in and out to come, you’d normally hope for things to be well set by now and feels like there’s probably some fundamental changes needed on both ins and outs.

Few other things for me are a bit odd. Not going to get tooo het up about pre season starting 11s but really not sure why Taylor/McAtee aren’t starting these games whilst Woodrow is

On the strikers point, it does feel like only two of McAtee, Taylor and Woodrow can probably stay, but no one will move until around deadline day… we just can’t afford the lack of depth at the moment. I think Luton probably only have around 15 senior players fit right now. It’s worrying that Edwards is still having to talk about managing injuries.

Again, I try not to read too much into these games, but I agree that they look well behind where they should be at this stage of pre-season. That said, in recent years, Luton have generally started seasons slow but the accelerator pressed around the Autumn. I’m not sure why that is?

It’s rare that Luton get hammerings in pre-season… I just don’t remember a game where they’ve been well beaten. Yesterday should’ve been that game.

There’s no doubt the injuries are still a major issue. Edwards was referencing how tricky it’s been to manage workload, and working hard to get as many as 7 players back, pretty worrying that’s already an issue in pre season.

Probably quite constraining for us in the market too as once those players do get back, you’re left with a very bloated squad
