A Chairman, presumably from a non-football background in terms of playing etc, to have a say on who comes in and goes out? Can't see that ending well.I have no insider knowledge, so this is only what I have heard and summised.
John Sheridan was appointed following Rosler's departure UNTIL the end of the season, his task was to keep the Cods in the division, and has done this to great effect. The Cods have a 'directer of football' who along with the Chairman and the coach decide on players incoming and outgoing. The important part is that the person is classed as the coach and not the manager. John may or may not have been offered a longer term position but it would have been on this basis, a role that he may of felt did not suit his style.
Joey Barton is a good friend of the Chairman, other than that I don't know of any other rationale for his appointment. Like others have stated Joey, as a footballer, seemed to operate on a razors edge between brilliance and lunacy, it will be certainly interesting to see how this translates to team management.
Fairly certain that there will not have been many Cods fans who saw this coming and it is not a 'sit on the fence' appointment for them, it will be either love it or hate it. For me I have an open mind, but leaning to it ending in tears sooner rather than later.

Joey Barton, a convicted criminal with no coaching experience, walks into a managerial job with no formal recruitment process, because he's friends with the owner. A lot of people don't understand the point of the Rooney Rule. This is exactly what it's for.

Is this a stroke of genius by Pilley or a the biggest mistake in his stewardship of Fleetwood ? When Sheridan was appointed back in January there were plenty on here who said he would do no good and a waste of space ( or words to that effect ) well he has proved everybody wrong and fair play to him. He will leave with all the Cod Army wishing him well, and a nice bonus for keeping Fleetwood in league 1Wow. They get a manager who gets them back on track and sack him. And replace him with someone with no coaching experience, no experience of the league and a very abrasive character likely to rub the tea lady up the wrong way, let alone the players. Think this will end in tears for the cod army, but what do the fans think?
Can see Shez rocking up at Bury next season...
Deluded on the pitch to think he was the best English midfielder and will no doubt think he is the best manager in the country. Interested to see how he deals with the fans getting on his back when results don't go his way.
