No different to Forest Green, Eastlee and all the other garbage pretending to be real football clubs. :£

Football League club whose relegation resulted in the club going bust. A new phoenix club formed that now plays in the conference.

I could be talking about Gateshead, Chester or Halifax.

The latter 2 clubs are where they are on merit not because someone is buying their place for them. :£

Seems a bit of a strange appointment, doesn't scream of being spoilt for choice of quality applicants. Be interesting to see who is retained and what kind of squad he can build. Tough to get near the playoffs this year I think.
Im not sure who else was interviewed. A guess been a geographically isolated non league club wont help. Willing to give malcolm crosby a go. He has promotion budget apparantly. But yeah confrence is tough league

It's a tough one I guess, we have plenty of experience of paying over the odds on players because we have to pay a premium for our northern position, I suppose for Gateshead (although it's next to Newcastle which should interest a few) suffers from similar issues. Perhaps even more so. Darlo being only an hour'ish from Leeds we can attract some players in from North Yorkshire if the conditions are right, whereas could almost be a couple of hours for you guys.

It sounds like the budget will be competitive and Gateshead seem to always have to basis of a good squad so it's all about the new additions. I do think though to get out the Conference most of the time requires a manager who know's the lower leagues well (the likes of Martin Allen, John Still are great examples). I saw that your crowds averaged over 1,000 last season, do you think this is a good core support or are they likely to go elsewhere if the football/results aren't good? Are you hoping with the on going Mike Ashley saga, you may be able to attract a few more disillusioned Magpies?

Think our lowest attendance was about 700 but that was on a cold Tuesday night when we had nothing to play for and there was only 3 other league games where we got below 1000 and again they were all midweek games so our core support is increasing. If we manage to have a competitive season and Newcastle/Sunderland are floundering near the relegation zone again I can only see our attendances increasing, Wembley seemed to really increase our profile and has helped a lot.

crowd may well go elswhere if results aint good. I wont. Cant be arced to go to premiership football games and gateshead are a good alternative for me liveing near althougth i hope to take in odd darlington game when yous move back to town (used to watch yous years ago). You would think a few newcastle fans would cross river instead of lineing twatshleys pockets but not so sure they too loyal. If 1000 stopped going to newcastle and became regulars at gateshead it would help alot. Alot of folk in north east think 15 quid is too expensive for confrence football

You have to remember though, Gateshead were never invited or applied to join the football league in the first place, took over South Shields... They were the pre war MK Dons
