I always thought it was a pity there wasn't a general thread for the Championship where people could post stuff of general interest about the Championship, because many are reluctant to post a new thread for just a little snippet about something. If it's about transfers or away followings or MK Dons, there's an obvious thread, but for many other topics, there isn't. Maybe this will work. Maybe it'll just get ignored.

The Express & Star, Wolverhampton's unbiased local bastion of journalistic quality and winner of as many Pulitzer Prizes as any other West Midlands newspaper, is doing an 'old matches' series with the match reports from games in history. Probably as interesting reading for other fans as for Wolves fans.

They are starting it with the May 8th 1972 clash between Wolves and Leeds. This game will be much longer remembered in Leeds than Wolverhampton, as the Wolves win denied Leeds their second League title in three years. A number of Leeds players have described it as the worst night in their lives, despite winning the FA Cup just two days earlier. Leeds only had to avoid losing to take the title, but Wolves won 2-1 in front of a fairly decent 53,000 people. There's a much better review of the game (from a Leeds perspective) here.

Edit: Thread title changed to reflect all the valuable contributions SERNWA makes to the Championship forum when he's not answering peoples' mobile phone account queries.

Remember that season, I believe there were four clubs competing for the title. Derby, Leeds, Man City and errr....don’t remember it that well obviously. I was living in Ipswich at the time and saw them play Man City late in’ the season.

The Blades were quite a good team in those days

They're fine now. Agreed a deal with BlueMarble which involves paying off the debt in full with an injection from an unnamed third party. Administration avoided unless something drastically changes.

Fair enough.
Just see the article was published after the deadline so didn’tknow if there was another twist in the tale.

Sorry Muzzle, I could have sworn you've been in administration before. Maybe it was just close to it.
No worries, been a stressful, disappointing day,

Feels like it's a matter of time before this sort of thing happens again for Bolton unless the takeover materialises. Bizarre that they were spending nearly £1m on Doidge a week before this debt was due.

Nah, this was the last debt outstanding to an outside company, all the other laons are from 3 wealthy BWFC supporters, who have also reduced terms to allow the club to pay them back when they can

Will the death of Eddie Davies (RIP) affect things?
I think that is what caused the hold up in paying blu marble at the last minute, but from a football perspective, he stopped putting money into the club a couple of years ago, was there for advice mainly, the Warburton family still have a place on the board, and any loans are either owed to them and another wealthy supporter, believe the loans for both add up to total 8 million, so no outside loans left now

By the way, not often seen on here but Preston North End are a class act, eddie davies had nowt to do, and was not affiliated with the club, yet PNE put a nice sympathy tribute on their web site. Not many clubs would do that :)

I know that the Heathcotes debt was significantly reduced to help out with the Magennis deal, used to play cricket with his son

Not really related but have any of you watched the Nile Ranger podcast with True Geordie or whatever he’s called? Really interesting quite a detailed run through of everything he’s been involved in, he’s so talented just gets himself involved in stupid shite. Think he’s probably got one more go at it, probably in L1 though.

Can't stand Ranger to be honest, such a waste of talent. Been given so many chances but manages to screw it up every time. You look at someone like Troy Deeney who has turned his life around, and then see Ranger's decline and it's hard to have any sympathy.

I have some sympathy for anyone who feels the need to get their name tattooed onto their face.
Clearly not all there.

there's a bit of banter going on with Niall from 1D , Leeds Utd official twitter, Derby official twitter and 1D fans also paddy power, and a few others haha

Niall said "no one likes Leeds" Leeds official retweeted "no one likes your solo career"

had me in stitches it's going back and forth

Having called his own fans "uneducated morons" I wonder if James Mclean has much of a future at Stoke?

Stoke is a patriotic place, so it was never going to go down well. I completely understand why he won’t have the poppy on his shirt, and people need to respect this. I never wear one, and imo it has been hijacked by the far right, and those kind of groups.

How does a professional keeper do that?

I can understand slicing a backpass, or missing a cross but that???

It's so quiet in the PL forum, I'm going to have to ditch the old gold and find a club here in the Championship. Thoughts? Need a club with a history, decent banter, a useless board, little ambition, heartbreak week in, week out. So Derby it is.

Think Wednesday’s owner has turned up to their fans forum pissed up tonight judging by his comments that’ve been posted on Twitter, absolutely incredible.

I feel a bit for the bloke because he's trying his best and plowed loads of his own money in, sadly he doesn't know anything about football and his pr leaves a lot to be desired. The mongs have outed him but they better hope the grass is greener, this will rumble on for a while as it won't be easy to find someone to make up his investment.

Regularly charging people £40+ to watch low quality Championship football matches, my heart bleeds for him
