I suspect they may run into some issues, they can’t sack him and not the others because he’s injured, there are a number of laws against that kind of action.

I suspect either something else is afoot, or he’ll win a substantial payout in court.

You either sack all the players involved in the incident or none of them, otherwise it comes off as blatant hypocrisy and shows that Derby really aren't interested in "doing the right thing".

The only reason Keogh's gone and the other two haven't is because he's injured and has no resale value for Derby to take advantage of.

I'm sure they've spoken to solicitors, if I was in charge and I could sack the worthless one and keep the valuable two then i'd do the same.

Exactly this, It's not about Keogh - the geezer is a grade A goon and I've no sympathy whatsoever.

Derby basically saying you can behave as appallingly as you like as long as you're not too old is the issue.

They've shown themselves up and have no moral high ground ever again when it comes to Bielsa/spygate etc and whatever else.

He'll probably take Derby to court for more than 5m.

Derby have acted disgracefully and have really shown themselves up and made a mockery of their own statement about how seriously they would be treating the incident.

Will he? I've seen a lot of what RK will take us for but in all honesty I haven't got a clue. Be surprised if Mel Morris isn't all over this, he normally is.

Derby have protected themselves. The statement isn't great but the right thing has been done. Two drink drivers receiving the maximum punishment under their contracts whilst being able to play. The passenger, no seat belt, club captain who cannot fulfil his contract sacked. I'm not that arsed tbh. Sad it's ended like this but he shouldn't have been a twat.

I’m no lawyer, but if Keogh wasn’t wearing a seatbelt then he probably doesn’t have a leg to stand on (pardon the pun).

Let our Premier League campaign be a lesson to everyone in this league on just how large the gap between the Premier League and Championship is: whoever goes up this season, you'll need to invest huge amounts of money to even have a chance of competing, as our squad is all but unchanged from last season and is not competing at all.

I'm sure the gap is a massive one. However, you'll be rewarded for failure at the end of it so not too bad.

Sheffield United aren't doing too badly though considering the size of the gap.

True enough for the most part, but there's always the odd exception.

Sheff United aren't doing too badly, without having gone mental in the transfer market.

The thing is, they still spent over £40 million in the summer to supplement what they already had, which isn't exactly pocket change or anything. At the very least, you have to spend far more than the paltry amount we did (just £750k on actual transfer fees, and a few million in loan fees) to be able to compete.

£40m! I didn't know that tbh. I had it in my head that they hardly spent anything, for some reason.

The Scottish guy from Swansea cost 20 million I think .

They still have the same back 4 and midfield though .

To sum up our transfers Welbeck is injured and Sarr only played about 3 games out of position!

Our new Main Stand development plans have been announced with works due to start from the summer. Looks incredible, gives the ground a much needed makeover and keeps us in our location on the banks of the Trent. Also couldn’t be further away from 75% of these new grounds.. Chuffed with how the plans look

We really could do with promotion in the next couple of years because the infrastructure and base of the club are improving rapidly after years of neglect, need to keep up on the pitch now!

Just looked at those plans, look very smart.

Bit of a German feel with the lit up exterior.

Feels a bit weird for us to have internationals this season, but our dodgy keeper Simon Sluga made his second appearance for Croatia last night. Those in their group next year will be wanting an injury to their No.1. There must be something with him...

So no transfer embargo for Sheffield Wednesday until their case gets resolved. Which will probably be in 2025.

The EFL need to start sorting their shit out.

Gary Sweet's programme notes from Thursday:

My New Year’s wish, and indeed resolution with a view to encourage change, is for the authorities of our beautiful game to realise the monster it has become and take action to protect its structure and heritage.

Such is the severe financial incongruity that currently exists, and that is deepening, our fear is that we are rapidly losing the sporting spirit which should be at the core of its structural DNA. Despite existing Profit & Sustainability rules (which should be named Loss & Sustainability) under a UEFA Financial Fair Play directive, more than ever before, our national game has become such an unhealthily diverse playing field from top-to-bottom whereby club owners are permitted (or rather not stopped from) injecting cash into their playing budgets on a game or risk.

This is simply not sport. Such contemptible habits breed competition between club owners on the primary basis that success is achieved according to who has the greatest amount of money to gamble in any one season. It is unsporting, unfair and, most importantly, unsustainable. My fear is that such is the delta between the haves and have nots that it is the biggest threat to the traditional sound structure of our game. More clubs will die if this is not fixed and clubs will cap the limit of their ambitions because, unless they sell to an international billionaire gambler, they simply cannot compete.

We operate in a League where clubs are accused of creative accounting, selling their foundation assets to avoid points deductions and alarmingly pandering to agents’ demands whilst still making eye-watering losses to chase the dream of promotion to the Premier League. We operate in a league where the delta between top and bottom is greater than tenfold in budgetary terms and those at the bottom are expected to compete.

The same is now happening at every level in the game purely because the balance of wealth is so stark.

I do not raise this issue now because we’re languishing towards the bottom of the Championship. I raise it because we are experiencing the chasm in real time between the leagues and because matters are worsening.

We, as a board, will not compromise on our own principles of sustainability. This may be the first decade in Luton Town’s post-war history which has seen the Club avoid financial catastrophe at some point having left a decade which very nearly saw our club die twice because our then owners whimsically overspent. As we know only too well, owners can all too easily lose a gamble and flee a sinking ship leaving supporters to pick up the pieces, if indeed there are any left.

So, my wish is to shift the current culture of football away from a world where owners/custodians are expected to plough in multi-millions to remain competitive to a more reasonable and prudent world where rules are imposed to protect the longer-term sustainability of clubs and their supporters and communities and for managers and players to battle on a more even playing surface.

With a new Chairman in place and a new CEO soon entering the building, the time for the EFL to act is now. Many clubs throughout the pyramid want the same whilst some want to spend as much as they like. Meanwhile, I ask for your support in protecting the sustainability of Luton Town Football Club, whatever the result, and have the faith and patience in backing us to run the club the way we have over the last decade.

A massive thank you to those who are already pleading with us not to compromise our principles (even if we could afford to).

Sad news.

Chris Barker dies aged just 39.

Played for a few teams in this league.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50971215

Shocking news. He's a legend in these parts. Came to us in the aftermath of everyone leaving when Ron had stopped paying them.
Paul Sturrock made him captain and he was with Southend 3 years. Always gave his all, fantastic off the pitch, wholeheartedly got into all club events.
Very sad loss.
