And the worst away end. Believe guys you are in for an shock when you see how truly awful it is. Far worse than yours is.
I used to enjoy my trips to Barrow when both clubs were in Conference and Barrow did not segregate fans.
To my mind it was a typical 1950's stadium which was type when I first started going to games.
The last season FGR played Barrow in Conference the fans were segregated and it was no longer a fun trip.
FGR were 1st team to experience these changed conditions after Barrow had played Lincoln where there had been a few bottles thrown between the two sets of supporters.
When FGR turned up it seemed that there were more policemen on duty in stadium than there were away fans.

Was that the one where Manny Monthe headed in that late winner? That was a very enjoyable game.

at a similar time last season we went to FGR and did the unthinkable and won 2-0 when they hid a dodgy patch. Even though FGR are top this is again probably the best time to play them;- they haven't scored more than a goal in at least their last 5 games - neither have we, but if their best* 3 players and 2 top scorers are out then there is a slight chance we could upset them again.
IF we can somehow scrape a win i hope Scunny go down in a blaze of glory winning all their last 5 games - purely because that would mean they beat Stevenage.
I generally agree with there being right and wrong times to play opposition. There are generally things to point to that could justify this thinking. I think we are currently in a phase of the season where results can be very unpredictable. so that thinking can get skewed some what. Losing two very influential players definitely does not help. But scoring had already fallen away. Midfielders have scored two of our last three goals. Matt has not scored for quite a long time, but his presence is of huge value to us, so definitely a big lose. Although he could technically be available on Friday if passed fit by a doctor. I suspect he'll miss the game, but be back for Easter Monday.

As for our tie, I think you will be 100% committed, but despite the absences of our leading scorers, we were still quite clearly giving it absolutely everything commitment wise against Hartlepool. I expect the same on Friday. But I'd say on balance (in an extremely long winded way) we will be that bit weaker now, than if Matt and Stevens both been playing. Given this is a very competitive league, I'd concede a slight edge for yourselves. Definitely not a match to put money on though. So squeaky bum time for both sides.

I'm not sure atm if I will be swelling the skateboard by one!

Yes 550 to Exeter.

Why you so concerned with a really small club like FGR’s away attendances.

We took 290 to Tranmere, why would we only take 185 to Exeter if there wasn’t a reason.
Because you're a, and I quote "a really small club"

290 isn't the norm for Tranmere away for you is it? ffs

You have completely ignored my point. Just saying we are a really small club does not cut it I’m afraid.

How is it the last time we came to Exeter we took 550 fans and when we are in a better position in the league we take 185? Does not make logical sense, especially when in the sane season we took 290 to Tranmere which is a much longer and harder journey.

What have your away attendances been at SJP the last 5 times you've come? Go on, read them out. Let the world know how tin pot you are.

If I was you I would'nt be taking the piss out of FGR's away attendances when your own home attendances are nothing to write home about.

Yeah, I agree. We've only sold out 3 of our last 4 home games (it'll be 4 out of 4 sell outs) and most tickets have all gone or nearly all gone for most of our away games apart from Tranmere. One of our home games sold out before the away team's tickets have even gone on sale, we've been given the away terrace as well when Colchester visit so we'll have all four sides of the ground sold out, and we sold your away end out a month before we even played you and had to stand in your home end - similar to Newport recently! Took over 400 to Carlisle, more than double what FGR took to us...... And let's not talk about the mileage comparison in those two fixtures.

We're FGR, everyone knows we're tinpot (I suppose in these days of Salford, etc, it may be necessary to clarify that we are at least upper-tier tinpot), it's not a big deal.

Someone has to be tinpot otherwise there’d be no such thing as ‘proper’ clubs.

Us being tinpot enables people like Devon Lad to get their cock out and wave it about, when in the grand scheme of things Exeter’s support isn’t anything special. We serve a purpose.

What’s wrong with being tinpot anyway? Someone has to be otherwise there’d be no such thing as ‘proper’ clubs.

Not at all, no cock waving. We're about average in this league. I just didn't get the absurdity of going mental over 2 coaches to Barrow and applauding it. And then the rebuff of suggesting you take 500 down here as a normality. It's just nonsense so I called it out for what it is. I couldn't care less about the tinpottery of FGR. Close game for us, and I even watched you a few times back in the conf before you were promoted when Exeter weren't playing.

I don’t know anyone ‘going mental’ about us taking 2 coached to Barrow, in fact most of our fans haven’t reacted to it at all. FGR Stroud seems to be the only one I’ve seen particularly excited by it.

These days we tend to take 150-200 to a lot of our away games, (even Carlisle was over 100) which is about 10% of our home crowd. Neither are brilliant obviously but for a club our size it’s acceptable I would say. We’re not totally out of place at this level crowd wise, despite having the smallest catchment area so I’m fairly happy on that count.

Fair play on coming to watch us occasionally back in the Conference days.

Devon Lad with his cock out is not an image anyone wants to see, think about or even read about.

Well if you're down at SJP when we play you and secure promotion at, you'll witness it with your own eyes, and it won't be an imaginary image for you to fall asleep to each night.

We’re now going to have home fans in the away end on Friday, so the first in years where we’ll have all four sides with home fans.

This will either be a comfortable afternoon where we give a capacity crowd something to really cheer, or we’ll make things really difficult for ourselves.

I can see Owura Edwards scoring against us, but surely we’ll have enough to do the job.

Likewise getting relegated to the National League allows some small FL clubs to live out their being a big club fantasy

Yup, clubs relegated to the National League tend to fall into two categories...either their fans can't understand why they are there and expect them to go straight back up again because they are a big fish in a little pond, very few ever do, or they are in a downward spiral and just hope to survive the season. Meanwhile upstarts like Rovers and Sutton, who are clubs with long and proud histories, get promoted ahead of them...taking bitterness and envy to new levels.

Talking of history of your club. Just out of interest, why did you change your name to Stroud in the late 80's and revert back to Forest Green a few years later?

It was an utterly unpopular decision to change the traditional name by the then management.
Their thinking was that 'Stroud' being the local town would increase attendance.
It did not and the fans hated the name. They conducted a successful high profile campaign to return club's name back to 'Forest Green Rovers'.
It worked.
Dale Vince is aware of this in club's history and vowed to retain the name Forest Green Rovers when club moves 15 miles to Eco Park in Eastington.

I think when club was created the shirts were black/white stripes until Vince changed them to Green. Initially not popular but Vince didn't back down and Green has become colour associated with FGR.

We had all white in the 1880s and later red and white stripes prior to the black and white if you check those historical kit sites, most clubs have changed a few times down the years.

Good on the fans for their campaign to revert back to Forest Green Rovers.

Really winds me up when clubs hierarchy try to change an historical name.

Hull City to Hull Tigers in recent years springs to mind.

Back in the mid 70's when our ex football league inter city rivals Bradford Park Avenue were going to the wall, it was suggested by the local council that we merge and do away with 'City' and 'Avenue' and call us Bradford Metro FC, you can well imagine how that went down with our fans. Needless to say it didn't happen
