Here is the Chairmans message from Saturday:

We are aware of a number of questions from fans regarding the confusion arising from the decision for the Bradford v Stevenage game today to go ahead despite three Stevenage players testing positive for Covid compared to the decision to postpone our game at Cheltenham today because of one positive test.

As stated yesterday, the decision to postpone is at the club's discretion and given the medical advice received, we remain satisfied that we made the correct decision.

It would not be appropriate for us to comment on the Stevenage decision, they know the background and circumstances involved and have also had medical advice.

On Monday, we will be seeking clarification on the key differences and we will update fans accordingly.

We don't know if it's us in the right or in the wrong, so why the expletive? No explanation yet, or differences of circumstances with us and Stevenage/Orient/West Ham.

Still no clarity from clubs or the EFL as to why your case is so different from that of West Ham, Stevenage and Plymouth's.

I've noticed your chairman has been quite vocal since this all began and has been pushing the suspension of L1&2 argument quite a bit lately. Would I be wrong in thinking there is some skullduggery going on here?

I’ve thought about every option and I can’t see a logical one that makes our circumstances so different?

On top of that, we’ve let a player go on loan, play with another team who are part time (so presumably not under the strict measures we are) and walk straight back into the training ground with COVID. That alone Is a mistake.

Who, us, Orient or both?
I reckon we’ll be deducted points. The EFL statement suggests we’re making our own protocols up.

It’s clear Day isn’t telling the truth about the EFL advising us. He wants the season ending and this is his way of proving his point, let’s just call it what it is.

It's rarely that simple at Grimsby, I am prepared to wait and see what happens next and think only positive thoughts until I know otherwise.

Wild speculation mate. Day doesn't come across as a schemer.

At what point does the statement suggest we are making our own protocols up?
it states that we are following both EFL and Government guidelines.

Whilst the EFL suggest otherwise.

Somebody is lying and given other clubs could play on after approval from the EFL, all fingers point to us.

Why and where are the EFL suggesting otherwise and why is someone lying? Surely worst case scenario we have made a different interpretation to someone else. Why is that lying?

The EFL’s statement says that it was our decision, our statement says it was the EFL who said, so somebody is lying?

If they feel fit to investigate us then it doesn’t add up does it? We’ve just made ourselves look amateur and naive again. Having 2 weeks off training when we look absolutely miles off the pace anyway is a total fuck up.

I think we are looking at the same things and coming to a different answer, maybe a bit like the club and the EFL. But I don’t think either of us are lying.
I agree about being miles off the pace though. Clearly are lack of pre season is biting us on the arse and the next 2 weeks won’t help.

In the EFL statement about our game with Bradford it says it's up to a club to inform the EFL whether they can play their fixture whilst following EFL regulations and government guidelines.

I'd guess Grimsby have informed the EFL of their current situation - self isolation etc and if they follow government guidelines and the regulations set by the EFL they can't play until the two weeks of self isolation are up.

We paid for testing and were able to confirm all but three of our squad were COVID free as of Friday (the day before the game) so we met the EFL/Government guidelines and were free to play Bradford.

If the above is correct, could Grimsby not pay for their squad to be tested to avoid the disruption?

If the EFL start deducting points because clubs are struggling with players testing positive for the virus then, alot more clubs will be losing points as the season goes on - We're not even in winter yet.

I'm sceptical about our next two games going ahead as well: Cheltenham on Saturday and Wimbledon next Tuesday, both home games - Some players and staff are due to report back on Tuesday I think it is for training - no mention of the numbers given.

No proper training for us since last Monday, we'll be lambs to the slaughter on Saturday if our game goes ahead.

Apparently the rules for self isolating are two weeks for coming into contact with someone who tests positive and one week if you test positive according to our chairman.

Didn't Grimsby's chairman say he wanted the season to end? I swear I remember him saying it should have never started and should end now.

Signs point to Grimsby refusing to play in order to push the season towards being canceled. They can do it all they like really though as a points deduction doesn't matter as there will be no National League teams to get promoted.

Nail. Head. Hit.

Given their injury list, poor pre-season; not to mention a below par start to the campaign, it would appear that they have little interest in wanting to get games on, at present.

Wasn’t it Holloway who mentioned that some/all of their players/new recruits have clauses in their contracts whereby if games weren’t played, they wouldn’t be paid.

It may sound incredibly harsh in the grande scheme of things, but if Grimsby are unable to forefil their fixtures, then they should be docked points - and we should be awarded with 3 points.

None of this sits right with me. It’ll be very interesting to see how this materialises over the next few days.

Small rumour that we could be bringing the Cheltenham game forward to this weekend now, given they were supposed to be playing Orient.

Day heaping huge embarrassment on his club and fans. Grimsby Town a laughing stock at the moment in their attempts in trying to curtail the season when so many other clubs are doing their very best in these unprecedented times.

Well done Stevenage by the way, travelling up to Bradford on Saturday morning after hearing 3 of their first team squad had tested positive

Many decades ago there was [I think] a polio outbreak in Blackburn and the town was closed down for about six weeks.
When Blackburn Rovers were permitted to resume playing there were bottom of table [no games = no points], a situation that they never recovered from.
Grimsby should be aware of the long term consequences of falling behind in their fixtures.

This can only do Grimsby more harm than good. Surely go down the Stevenage route and pay for the testing for the squad. One off testing isn’t a huge amount.

They are also putting themselves at a disadvantage because when they do return, it’s going to take a couple of weeks to get back to match fitness etc whilst other teams have obviously been playing and training throughout.

Clubs at this level are desperate to get fans back in and have made tons of changes in protocols to make this happen. Just waiting on the green light from the government. Instances like this really don’t help.

All speculation, adding two and two together and getting six. I hope you are all wrong, I will apologise if you are correct, I expect the same from all of you if you've jumped to the incorrect assumptions.
