Just look at the sheer strength of Super Ollie Palmer to break through the Grimsby backline, the athleticism to accelerate into the space away from the defenders, the composure as he looks at McKeown and the technique to find the corner.

Who needs Jay Simpson?

What sort of reception did Ollie Palmer get from our fans when he came on?
I've been in Milton Keynes all weekend and Saturday felt like Sunday so i forgot that we were even playing until we got back last night and put Sky Sports News on and saw the result! :sna:

Haha. Ollie Palmer in the goals again. Have you replaced him with an imposter?

Will be interesting to see if he scores against us next week again.

Grimsby and Cheltenham both seemingly
Struggling to come to terms with league football

It seems like we are playing well enough (Colchester 1st half aside), but we are missing chances and being punished for most defensive mistakes that we might have got away with in the Conference.
I'm confident that as long as the performances stay good then we will turn it around as apart from that first 45 at Colchester no team has really outplayed us.
Just seen Orients goals, jesus wept........

We noted that when we came back up, that you couldn't get away with as much, and that the pace was generally a little faster.

Bristol went straight up again, so it's not exactly like the league is insurmountable - it took them a while to get used to it - just adapted well - if you can do that you'll be just fine

Same, if you try to play the more open style you find from the top conference sides who are set up to go for a win every game you end up getting punished, which is what happened to us at the start of last season.

Is it fair to say Grimsby's XI was better last season?

15/16: McKeown, Tait, Nsiala, Gowling, Townsend, Arnold, Disley, Nolan, Monkhouse, Bogle, Amond

16/17: McKeown, Davies, Pearson, Gowling, Andrew, Chambers, Summerfield, Berrett, Bolarinwa, Bogle, Vernon

Apparently he got booed from the Main Stand but in the Lower he got a good reception, a lot better than he probably warranted to be honest. Some moaned that he celebrated when he scored - as if he owes us anything for a 4 month loan spell - but he did applaud the home fans at the final whistle so fair play.

If you swap Townsend for Robertson who was more present last season then I think our defence is slightly better now on paper, but obviously that's a bit void considering how many mistakes we're making. We're missing Nolan and Amond right now but we're not missing Arnold and definitely not Monkhouse. Honestly it's pretty even.

By all accounts we played well yesterday and on another day could've easily won. I mentioned elsewhere I think we'll get turned over by the better teams but have enough to beat the poor teams. Stevenage is a big test next week to see how true that is.

Pretty even to be honest, Davies and Tait both good players, Townsend was only on loan and him going back put paid to us challenging for the title. Nolan is excellent, and Amond over Veron just for the goals. Other that not much in it.

Besides the 2016 conference side struggled over the line and would probably have missed the top 5 completely if we had them for the whole season, give me this seasons side in lge 2 over that one in lge 2.

As said above, apart from the first half against Colchester we haven't been outplayed and its defensive mistakes that have cost us, cut them out and am sure we will be on for a lower mid table finish which is average for sides coming up from the Conference. We also trounced Morecambe and gone on to lose every games since, whereas Morecambe have gone on to win every game since, its a funny old game.

Davies is par with Tait, Andrew better than Robertson (Townsend was only here 9 games), each winger is an improvement. The only players we haven't replaced are Nolan and Toto. Once we've stopped leaking goals, I can see our results improving.

Vernon is by no means a replacement for Amond!

Kayden Jackson seems a decent replacement for him for me.

Replacing the guy who scored 30 in his Conference season with someone who scored 4?

That seems like the kind of logic which made Hurst take so long to get you out of that cesspit :ffs:
