Felt like we didn't work as hard as Grimsby today, and that was the difference. Felt that they won battles all over the park, and we seemed to wimp out of 50/50s. Really disappointing day all around.

Askey seemed to point to thinking we just had to turn up after recent performances and results which isn’t great. Hope they got a massive rocket!

Joyce was immense Tuesday but was dreadful today, in fact did anyone really put anything other than a 3/10! Brown didn’t have anything to do and couldn’t do much about the goals I guess but otherwise a real stinker.

For all the good askey will do for vale his signings have been poor.

Shame as I'm sure squad depth will stop you being a top 10 team.

John always picked a good player for us but since being at Shrewsbury and vale his recruitment hasnt been great.

The issue is last season we had a lot of bad eggs apparently, they have all been released, not sure if Whitfield is or isn’t one but he’s been sent with the kids and won’t feature but then has gone to people he trusts and knows ie ex Macc players. Other than Amoo, Bennett and Cullen (he looked knackered and only came on at 60 minutes!) he’s not added enough depth.

Assume we will sign a centre half in place of Rawlinson come deadline day and looking at a striker and midfielder but need them to be first team options really. Today losing two players in one area ie midfield highlighted the lack of depth and we lost all the midfield quality we’d had.

Luckily Monty was just concussion, but you have Manny in place of Lloyd today doesn’t happen.

The defence are going to make mistakes, as they are still relatively unfamiliar with Hendrie being on the left and Waterfall and Hewitt coming in. And I can accept that, however a couple of the mistakes have been piss poor. I think we'll be fine defensively, I'm not sold on Hewitt yet so would put a new LB top of the shopping list so we can get Hendrie back on his stronger side and have Hewitt as backup. I don't think we have that in the budget though. Can't see Gibson working out either.

I quite like Hewitt, and he certainly looks better in defence than midfield even though we were told the opposite. Waterfall is for me the key, he looks slow, yeah he can head a ball, but think I would rather Ohman and Davies than Waterfall and Davies.

Other pleasing thing today was the 3 subs were all from our youth system, and Pollock especially didn't looked fazed even coming against the likes of Bennett and Pope.

Clifton has lost his place recently and on todays performance Cook deserves to stay there, Whitehouse runs all over and Hessenthaler has probably been one of our best players so far this season again, he is a rock in defensive midfield and knows how to tackle players!

Yea that's the thing. Players like Lloyd and Burgess are good lads but very average and arguably conference players. John will do a good job in the end though, luckily your new owners like him so will get the time he needs.
He's a cracking bloke and deserves the chance at a decent club, especially how our shit house owners treated him after being promoted.

He’s turned us around, today aside we look a far better outfit than last season just on fitness and tactics alone...

The budget is low this year as the new owners have had to pay well over the odds to rid us of Norman so patience will be required but a solid mid table will do this season and build from there. We’ve shown glimpses of real quality but it’s a small squad and that will be a big ask to challenge further without the depth.

Stop crying
Pathetic Alex. They all support Liverpool or Manchester United really and just go along to the Alex for something to do. Horrible club who are realistically a league one club at the very highest but think they are better than everyone else . Pathetic support and the club has been shown up for what it really is.

Stop crying? That's what you do when you sit at home on your own on a Saturday night wanking over mornflakes.

Game was poor but even until HT. We need to cut out the defensive errors but I’m hoping that the return of Öhman or even Pollock will resolve that. However, I think we’re better defensively than the goals against column makes out.

After HT, we really turned it on and played direct football at its best. Matt Greens goal was like the Matt Green of old and I was annoyed when he got taken off as I think we were really hitting our stride, especially as it was for Harry Clifton who has been so disappointing this season. However, the other youngsters Max Wright and Mattie Pollock were immense after coming on and shows that we have some strength in depth. Hanson, Green and Ogbu is a good forward line for this level - I just cannot calculate Ogbu yet. I’d also claim that Jake Hessenthaler is one of the best CMs in the division, he’s so consistently good.

Awful ref, especially in the first half, spent 2 minutes talking to Hewitt after he caught the man on the followthrough of kicking the ball. Thought Vale were in regards to falling over quite easily and I expected more from them overall. Hanson was comically man-handled for most of the first half.

After 5 games, I believe we can at least finish in the top half this year. We’ll steamroll over some teams but others will have too much for us footballing-wise.

To be fair from the first minutes we got booted! The tackle on Conlon was poor and he doesn’t go down and stay down, he’s usually the one handing them out to be fair. Assume that was a ploy to rough us up after watching us Tuesday and it worked as the midfield went missing.

The referee was a bit OTT and make it stop start, the decision on Wozza when Harry Davis got injured body checking him was irritating!

Hanson got the treatment Pope gets week in week out and never gets protected from, those type of strikers never get protection from referees and in fairness Bennett was on the end of a few.

Seemed to take an age to lecture players mind. Seemed an angry place though every decision seemed to rile the crowd even if it was clear cut!

To be fair that first free kick wasn't even a foul, Hewitt booted the ball to clear it, it hit your player and the momentum of both players went into each other and your guy went down like a sat of spuds. I can understand that from the refs view it would have looked a foul but from the camera side Hewitt kicked the ball about a second before they ran into each other and wasn't even worthy of a free kick just looked like it from another angle.

Still a foul on the follow through though. Essentially kicked man and ball. Maybe 20 years ago you’d get away with it but these days of non contact pussy rules football you don’t!

Fair play to Grimsby. Great feeling to score 5 and looks like you've got a decent chance at upsetting the odds this season after years of dross.

For some reason I'm not going into meltdown about the result. These things happen, I'm certain that at some point this season we will also knock a team for four or five. Replacing Manny with Lloyd is like swapping a Ferrari for a push bike and it sounds like that was badly exposed. Don't think it's time for panic signings, but it is worrying that the squad players bought in aren't good enough to slot in when needed.

It's a tight league and despite only winning one match on five we are two points off the play offs. We should've collected a few more points already so despite yesterday's shocker om still confident we can have a good season and challenge for the top half.

Some fans are in absolute meltdown... the same ones who were creaming Tuesday onwards. It’s been a weird four days from sublime to ridiculous .

We’ve shown what we are capable of and had one good performance at Col United followed by three superb efforts where we should of won each by 4 or 5 so shouldn’t get too carried away but at least its exposed the problem we have in enough time to have the chance to sort it before the window closes.

We had these games out the blue last season here and there (all be it always at Vale Park).

Last seasons crazy defensive record away from home is well out the window though! 17 in 23 wasn’t it?!

Our first XI could easily finish top 10 but huge issues in depth need addressing as our first XI won’t stay fully injury free.

He didn't kick him though, I don't think would have to watch again but on the replay, Hewitt cleared the ball as hard as he could the ball hit your guy on the shin and they ran into each other after the ball had gone, certainly didn't look like he kicked him on the replay.

3 goals 3 assists for Hanson so far and we sit at the top of the GF table. Incredible contrast from last year when it took us until late October to manage 10 goals. This game obviously pads those stats a bit but we often struggle with poor starts. Hopefully we can kick on knowing early on that we do have plenty of goals in us.

Any chance you could take your Vale v Crewe bickering over to the Bradford v Stevenage thread from Tuesday night to bump its numbers up a bit and cheer F-I-R-T-H-Y up?
Let them have their moment in the sun.
You'd think that after playing two good sides and losing both they'd be more realistic but bless them and Artell they think they'll be Champions.

Fair play to Grimsby who are now becoming our Swindon. Beaten us 4 of the last 5 now .
Vale are going to be hit and miss with more miss than hit .
Squad is too weak once injury and suspension happens.

I thought they’d won the title on Tuesday?

In fairness funny they take the piss yet conveniently forget they’ve been beaten also by three goals this season already and that was at home!

We have (thankfully) all the markings of a mid table side, good for a bit, shit for a bit.
Must agree about our paper thin squad though, the people he’s brought in aren’t good enough, no manny or montano and our midfield looked toss.
Amoo isn’t going to tear it up every game else he wouldn’t be in division 4.
Summer football counts for little really, weren’t Yeovil smashing people in August last year?
Fair play to Grimsby, took us apart quite easily 2 nd half.
Doubt they’ll be bothering the relegation thread this year.
We might.

I'm not surprised we lost to grimsby we always lose to them. As long as we get to 50points and stay up that will do me.

Not really sure how I feel about the ex-Imps going well in the black and white.

Sounds like Jolley's taken notice of the red and white down the A46...
