Two slightly suprise packages meet. 4th Vs 3rd both teams come into the game in decent form. The shambles midweek confirms we will revert back to our normal side for this game bar Jaaskelainen who's on international duty.

Davis is injured, so you're safe this time round. Harry Clifton is away with Wales U21s for us too.

I'd expect us to make no changes to the side that beat Walsall, so...

McKeown

Hewitt Waterfall Ohman Hendrie

Whitehouse Heesenthaler Cook

Green Hanson Ogbu

We'll be seeing two similar formations implemented in rather different ways, I suspect. Having said that we're mixing it up a bit more than we were at the start of the season. For all the youngsters we have on the fringes of the team and breaking through, our current first choice XI is very much the experienced players in the squad doing their jobs and doing them well. Hopefully this will play a part. For all the exciting talent in Crewe's side, we know that when they fall apart they can potentially get battered and we still owe you lot a hammering from that 5-0 a few seasons ago. Can't see that happening and I'm inclined to agree this'll be a score draw but here's hoping...

Think the team kind of picks itself after the combination of the second half against Bradford last week and with what happened with Burton in the cup mid-week.

Amazingly saw that Crewe haven't drawn a game since March as a nice little stat. Predicting a score draw of 1-1 with Charlie Kirk scoring.

We were absolutely pants in this fixture in May and gave the twatty Davis family far too much satisfaction. We're on another level so far this season although a draw would not be a bad result in the long run.

I do wonder if we are due a stinker. We've been pretty good in every league game bar Plymouth, but even that was only for the first half. I worry that our back line lacks the height to deal with Hanson. We are dreadful at pressing and tackling and I can see us letting way too many free kicks and crosses come flying in. One is bound to connect and result in a goal.

I do wonder if we might get a roasting out of nowhere. Jolley will know exactly how to beat us and should be able to exploit it fairly easily. Press us hard, win the ball back when we overplay it and then just lump in crosses for Hanson to go after.

I'd happily take a point to be honest.

I really don't get why you lot have so much beef with Harry Davis, he was solid for us last season and has been excellent so far this. Nevertheless, you've driven a decent L2 defender out of your club and into ours, so cheers!
Edit: Via St Mirren - forgot about that.

Definitely a clash of styles but both sides deserve to be near the top based on their starts to the season.

Game of the weekend.

Not confident, take a point now.

Grimsby seem to pump a lot balls into the box onto old experienced heads, and we’ll have Richards the inexperienced flapper in goals. Hopefully we play football as good as we can and shine through though.

Well, I'm definitely growing more confident with each game that we might be troubling the right end of the table this season, although it's still early days.

Contrary to a lot of reports we don't just rely of the big hoof up to Hanson all the time, though I admit we do use that method, to a degree of success, but we can mix it up a bit and have also played some good football this season. The Port Vale game was a big contrast. We were poor in the first half but the 2nd half performance was excellent and if we can reproduce that again tomorrow then I'm confident we could nick it. However if we play like we did in the first half against Port Vale I can see Crewe punishing us unlike Vale did.

I'm going to go for a 1-0 win with a late Matt Green goal the difference.

Oh, and we'll have another shit ref.

The beef with Davis is he was our loathed former managers son.

Why quite Harry cops so much flak for his father's failings I don't know. It was Gradi that shoehorned Harry in at RB during the dreadful start to 11-12 and kept playing him even when he struggled. His dad took over that November and dropped him until Christmas. Ok, he got back in the team, but I thought he was worth his place in some awful L1 sides in later years. He suffered because he was never a heart on his sleeve lads lad by George Ray and was injured a lot of the time. He also suffered because his dad gave him the captaincy and a big contract.

None of this was Harry's fault mind, didn't mean he didn't cop all ends of abuse from fans. Plus the family got dragged in, pretty sure his sister got some stick as well.

However, what he does deserve abuse for was heading for the door the moment his dad was rightly sacked. You'd have to be an idiot to say it wasn't deserved, yet Harry took this as a slight and was packing his bags and heading out on loan the moment it happened. I also know him and his brother had some run ins with our fans. So the reasons for our fans hating him does come from several issues.

I never minded Harry when he was with us, he was definitely one of our better defenders of that squad. It's the way his dad spoke about fans with such disdain whilst manager, whilst being beyond useless. Then the whole Davis clan being salty pricks because of his sacking, including Harry having a tantrum off to Scotland and his brother being gobby on social media (mainly because being the least talented Davis is quite some kick in the balls of life). Bridges were burnt.

By the way Crewe fans, how do pronounce the surname of your player Ng?

Is it just as it looks Enn Gee?

Exactly that.

I felt sorry for Harry having to play under his dad, must have been awkward around the team, especially when we were struggling with an air of nepotism. However he really wasn’t ever that good in my opinion, and the conduct after confirms them all as twats in my book.

Crewe have had a habit of upset the form applecart with us over the years. Nearly cost us promotion in April 91 when they were bottom and won 1-0 at BP. Embarrassed us at home a few times in more recent years including a 4-0. be nice to keep the run going and avoid defeat, beat Macc on Tuesday and then have a bit of feck-arse down at Chelsea at the end of the month.

Yeah, I knew he was Steve Davis' son. I knew he wasn't rated particularly highly, but didn't know he was given a big contract and the captaincy. That explains it a bit more, cheers. It's a bit harsh to knock him for walking away when he was never really liked, in my opinion. Can you really expect someone to be loyal when they're getting abused by their fans? He seems to have done alright since leaving, after all. I guess we love a villain though, so maybe that's just the most rational explanation?

Most probably. Anyway, he's not playing today, so no customary 'former player scores against us' factor.

Strongest team we could put out, with the possible exception of Richards for Jaaskelainen. Still got a bad feeling about this one. Hope I'm wrong and we can get a result.

Crewe all passing around nicely and lots of possession but restricted them to a couple long shots. We have been more direct but not as long ball hoof as some games, with not many chances if any.

Good run to win a penalty from Hendrie but comfortable save from Hansons penalty.

What a dreadful half that was. Summed up by a god awful foul from Powell and an even worse penalty from Hanson.

No quality from either side, neither tactics are working that much. We aren't moving it quick enough and we aren't getting enough from the front 3. Breaks down every time it gets to them. Defence looks a bit shaky.

Got to find a way to control possession again and get that first goal, because there is always a major mistake in us. Powell and Porter get 10 minutes of the 2nd half, then I'm getting Dale and Anene on.

He wouldn't have scored even had Richards been on his line. It was such an easy height with no real direction. A truly shocking penalty.

Fully deserved win that. First bit of quality in the whole game from Lowery, brilliant move and finish. After we went ahead, we should have sealed it way earlier through Powell(yet again) and Anene missing sitters, although credit to the last ditch defending from Grimsby.

Finally got the 2nd we deserved, Grimsby offered nothing of note except a bit of pressure, Richards aside from one skimming the cross bar wasn't really troubled. Excellent performance 2nd half, another 3 points in the bag.

I'll allow myself to be optimistic and say we could do some serious damage this season.

Should have been a retake, that. Didn't notice that from my angle at the time.

Crewe much better today than us, though. Fair play to them. Think we'll struggle against sides who like to keep hold of the ball, glad there aren't many of them.

Going off social media pretty much everyone saying Crewe were just a much better team than us and the best team we’ve played this season so sometimes you’ve just gotta take it on the chin and accept results like this.
I’m sure if we’d been offered 7th place after 7 games we’d have taken it and most teams won’t be as good on the bell as Crewe were.

I can't understand your tactics though, backing off and giving us loads of possession. Even our commentators were shocked by how much your lot stood off. How did Jolley think that was the best tactic?

And how is he a fan of the one dimensional stuff you play as well? It was so obvious, I'm impressed we snuffed it out so easily. I mean, Green and Ogbu caused some problems down the flanks and the midfield aren't terrible. Yet they were just bypassed over and over again. What a waste of talent if that's the way you'll play all season.

Yeah we didn't play well today and sat off Crewe far too much especially first 20 mins of second half.

Crewe passed it around very well but didn't offer much in final third first half, first bit of quality in second half resulted in a good goal and they really should have had another couple after that but didn't.

After that we put lots of pressure on but didn't have really any clear chance just long punts into the box, couple of great crosses that really should have had somebody on the end off but didn't.

Second goal came because we were putting so much upfront was in 6 attackers v 2 defenders? Crewe could have easily had a few more from the counter but for last ditch defending, McKeown was pretty poor today resulting in us having to do those last ditch blocks.

Two sides that have played passing football and we have let them and lost them both. Need to do something different against those sort of sides also only two games we've not scored in I believe? So certainly our direct style is not working in these games.

Were sounding more and more like a very good team. Not just good passing but also solid at the back. Sounded like Grimsby the top scorers in the league only really had the penalty which was just a stupid mistake. The think is I think we can get even better yet, were nowhere near clinical enough going forward, when that clicks I can see us really hammering someone. For the 2nd week running it's great to read the positive reaction on social media from the opposition supporters.

I don't really have an issue with that either. I can understand why someone would be upset when their father gets sacked and I can understand why he might have felt like he wanted to move on at that point.

Good solid win. Not sure what way the game would have gone had the penalty gone in but we turned the screw well in the second half. Playing some lovely stuff and Lowery is an absolute star.

Just seen the highlights. Two lovely goals from us great footwork from Lowery for his and great composure from Kirk to go round the keeper. Also how did the Grimsby player clear the Powell effort of the line, great bit of defending. The Anene one was poor from Chuma, he had alot more time to compose himself before shooting. Oh well, yet again should have scored more, I think the stats had it at 18 shots on goal and 60 odd % possession.
