Depends what you want from an away day. Gillingham as a town isn't great, but no worse really than the majority of towns of clubs in this league when you look at it objectively. If you're after pre-game beers, then Rochester is the place to go and is only a few minutes away from Gillingham on the train. Alternatively you could stay in London for beers and then get the high speed into Gillingham from St Pancras which is only about half an hour or so. If you're down here for the weekend then you don't have to go far to find some genuinely nice places.I always do at least one southern game & Gillingham is one of the few I haven’t done, but other fans reckon it’s a crap away day & the place is a dump.
Is that true?

I'd imagine that the majority of away supporters will be given our covered section in the corner of the Gordon Road Stand this year as that's where small supports (under 400 or so) have been for the last few years now. This should negate most of the nonsense away fans give us about not coming to Priestfield due to our away temporary stand which is a bit rubbish but serviceable unless it chucks it down.
In terms of our away days, I've been to most of them already bar Wimbledon, Salford, Harrogate and Barrow, so ticking off at least a couple of those I'd imagine. That said, I scout for a National League side so Saturdays tend to be a bit busy for me to be able to get to. Midweek at Barrow though, I'll be there!
I'd suggest Stockport as well. Living around here I can vouch that the town centre is a lot better place for a pre/post match booze up than it was last time they were in the league. The away end is still an awful no roof affair mind you.Would aim for Dale, Bradford, Tranmere, Crewe, Carlisle and/or Grimsby if you’d like to take in any of the delights available past the Watford Gap. Walsall at a pinch.
I thought the centre of Edgeley had really gone down hill when we visited last season. The Main Street was like Beirut after a heavy bombing. Didn’t venture into the proper town centre though.I'd suggest Stockport as well. The main street in Edgeley is a bit grim and not somewhere I'd go. Tbf I meant more the town centre. It means a 5-10 min longer walk (or a bus/ taxi) as it's the opposite side of the tracks from the ground. But IMO a better idea.I thought the centre of Edgeley had really gone down hill when we visited last season. The Main Street was like Beirut after a heavy bombing.
