Another absent Mariner here, as I'm currently down in London. Will wait for the Player highlights before commenting further, however I would have taken a draw before kickoff, definitely would have taken one at 0-1 down and I would have snapped your hand off when 1-2 down so I was pleased when we got that equaliser.

Yes they were the two, Michael Bridges was a class act and we were so lucky to get him fit and playing again after the injury troubles he'd had through his career. I'd say he is my favourite player we've ever had and that season was our best in recent years in too, such a buzz about the club!

Sadly however it was short lived and things began to get dull and depressing a couple years later and soon after we found ourselves back down here again. :(

I guess things were even worse for you though?
You can say that again! After that 05/06 season until we went down was an awful time to watch us. It's all merged into one horrible cold 4-1 defeat at Accrington. Passengers strutting around Blundell Park huffing and puffing and a parade of clueless buffoons looking on from the sidelines, scratching their heads in bewilderment at the fact that a midfield consisting of Peter Sweeney and Michael Leary is failing to provide Barry Conlon with ample goal scoring opportunities.

I quite like this Grimsby lot, they're not like them horrible Hartlepool fans you get on here!

How did you manage to lose 2 of your best players to Hartlepool? I'd be livid if that happened to us and I'd find it embarassing.

A couple of the Hartlepool lot are indeed a bit much, aren't they. Mentioned it before but they really need to go down so they can be in the same division as Gateshead as they're also gagging for some local rivalry. So much so that they tried to instigate it with us during our Conference years. But yeah, Amond went because we offered him a 2 year deal in January last season and then sliced that down to a single year when we went up and Toto claimed he got racially abused by a small section of fans away at Halifax.

Watched goals

Total fuck up for our first and a total fuck up for Grimsby's first

If the own goal hadn't been scored Wyke would have had a tap in anyway

Very cute. Carver the troll has found a new friend.

We have our local rivals thanks. Have you and Carlisle got one?

The only people to mention 'rivalry' in this thread are you and a Grimsby fan?

Yet again Hartlepool fans bring up the subject of "rivalry" and then saying it's all one way.

I don't think they are deliberately trying to be funny, but it is.

Haven't read the whole thread but think the Grimsby bloke brought it up in relation to our completely non-existent 'rivalry' with Gateshead after he started rimming Carver in one of his posts.

Don't think Amond left for the money, he left because we didn't offer a two-year contract. I'd have hoped he'd be swayed by the allure of top-half football rather than a relegation battle but I guess he wanted to be the star of a poor team.

Read it again, he never said you had a rivalry with Gateshead, he said you need one as like them you're are so desperate to create a rivalry with other fans to not be left out.

I wouldn't want Hartepool to go down because then one day they could come back up and actually have good momentum for a change, if they ever got a lick of success then I'd be a bit worried, but no I'd prefer them to keep on being a hopelessly shit L2 side because it's an enjoyable fixture I look forward to as we always beat them easily. As for Amond and Toto I don't think they'll end up being that much of a big miss considering how well you're doing right now.

The issue is that, for the 1000000000000000 time I'm/we're writing this on this message board, WE have our rivals, it's other clubs that will remain nameless who don't have one, sling a load of crap at teams within 100 miles of them, then claim that the other team view them as rivals.

I'm not angry, just tired of this repetitive argument. BTW Never come across any major ill will from us to GY in any way.

Soup Ladle you are the one who brought the subject back into the spotlight, I was just having a little chat with Son of Cod about how embarrassing it is to lose players to the likes Hartlepool.

It had nothing to do with your crazy love for rivalries with clubs a 100 miles away.

Bearing in mind they'd been non-league for 8/9 years prior to us signing them, if they felt embarrassed then they probably shouldn't have.

Ok point taken, I didn't realise they'd been down there that long, but still I think they'd rather of lost them to a club with a bit more about them!

Like all players who sign at our level Carver, I'm sure they'd all wish they could sign for someone better.

Yeah, a couple of soft goals in that one. Waiting for the extended highlights still.

Very cute. Carver the troll has found a new friend.

Us? Yeah we're fine on that front. Scunthorpe, Lincoln, Hull...Boston at a push and the Donny games this season will have a bit of a buzz about them, I suspect.

And whoever said Amond is here for the moolah you must be kidding, we haven't a pot to piss in.
He'll be on a better deal than the one we offered him, though.

Also, why has the Hartlepool fan reacted so angrily
Can't take this Hartlepool lot anywhere, can we?

Well, yeah exactly. We were all upset/pissed off with us not keeping hold of Amond, but Oh My Bogle becoming the main man for us and smashing in 14 goals in his first 17 League 2 games has alleviated that a little bit. Even if he goes in January, then we'll be getting a decent fee for him so we'd still be able to replace him with someone better than Amond.

We actually offered Amond a 2 and a half year deal in January, but (understandably) not knowing what Division we would be in this season, he turned it down.

His goalscoring form towards the end of the season began to peter out a little and of the 30 (I think) goals he scored only 2 were against teams that finished in the Top 10. PH obviously wasn't convinced that he would be able to make the step up to League 2 (he hadn't really proved himself at Morecambe or Accy really) so only offered him a 1 year deal which he (again understandably) turned down.

I have no beef with Amond at all and wish him all the best, as do the majority of Grimsby fans, which was evident after he was given a standing ovation when he was subbed after scoring 2 goals against us at BP a couple of months ago.

I was never particularly upset about either of them leaving. I'd have liked Amond to stay but I suspected he wouldn't be anywhere near as prolific in this league against better defences. Alan Connell was an example of that. Toto well I've never really rated him, classy player when he's on it but that's not often enough. In fairness we haven't replaced Podge yet. If Bogle disappears one way or another we're pretty buggered, we don't have a striker half as good as him at the minute.

Anyway back to the actual topic. I was already head in hands when Summerfield readied himself to inevitably slice his shot completely off target. I managed to look up in time to see Andrew whip in his cross for the equaliser. I spend most games wondering how Summerfield gets in the side. He can play atrociously one minute before coming up with a split second of quality, intentional or not. Just can't make my mind up about him although I would always rather Disley over him.

When I first saw him play v Morcambe I thought what the feck have signed, his first touch was about as delicate as someone like Vunipola of Saracens and England...but he played really well at Derby and his first touch and passing was better. I actually think he's a poor man's Shaun Cunnington (have I said this before?), who also didn't have the best of first touches but many many other fine attributes, one of which was being totally disruptive of opposition midfield playmakers, which Summerfield does quite well. Don't think he's got the incredible engine and leadership that Shaun C had but he's growing on me (and two managers have now picked him).
