Hi All,
I'm currently in the process of writing a new article and I was looking for some opinions on the issue of hatred or a fail culture within British sport, particularly football.
I recently posted an article regarding Harry Kane and I got the feeling a lot of people were to determined to see him fail. For me personally, that seems crazy as I want to see the best players playing as well as possible (unless it's against my team) but particularly because he's a young English player I don't understand the thought process in wanting to see him fail.
I can understand where this hatred comes from if a player has a bad attitude, people want to see them taken down a peg or two. Is it down to the gulf between fans and players? At the highest level, the players perhaps aren't in touch with the real world, so the fans don't feel the connection to them like they would have thirty years ago?
It's the same with the England team, I got the feeling last summer, that people wanted the England team to fail, just so they could tell their mates that they called it ages ago. I support Bristol Rovers so it's hard to comment, but of the football league fans I know, they are generally bigger supporters of the national side. Is it different for Premier League fans?
Any opinions would be much appreciated, personally I think it's an interesting subject, it isn't just football, it's all sports in this country.
Thanks
Fran
